Oust 3 in 1 is as it states, a 3 in 1 product which is suitable to use as a hard hard surface disinfectant, an antibacterial spray for soft surfaces and an odour eliminator when used as an air freshener. Being a bit of a clean freak, what attracted me to this was the claim that it kills 99.9% of bacteria on surfaces, coupling this with the fact that it comes with the option of two scents, there was no way I was leaving this on the shelf.
The scent I opted for was Garden Fresh, but it is also available in Outdoor Scent, which I have yet to try. The Garden Fresh scent is, as you might expect, quite floral, and to me smells quite sweet which is the main reason I chose this fragrance. When first sprayed, it does smell rather strong and is quite overpowering, but it soon settles into a more subtle, very pleasing aroma.
The product is sold in a hefty 400ml aerosol can which is recyclable. On the front of the can is the name of the product, the scent and a brief description of what it does. The bright pink lid isn't removable but instead has an area in the middle of it and when pressed, released the product through a hole in the side. Personally I prefer this type of design as I always seem to misplace the lids of cleaning products.
Using the product is very easy. It does state on the back of the can that this is not a cleaning product and that any area being treated should be cleaned first.
To use the product as an air freshener, the can needs to be pointed towards the centre of the room and the product should be sprayed for 5-10 seconds. This method of use is said to eliminate the smell of smoke, pets, food and bathroom odours. I was very happy with the results when using the product in this way as it left the treated rooms smelling fresh and clean. There were no underlying odours that could be detected as is sometimes the case with other air fresheners on the market so I can say here that this product is great for eliminating odours and not just masking them. Personally, I don't spray for the time recommended. I find that a quick squirt usually does the trick and you really don't need to use much at all.
Oust can also be used on a number of hard surfaces including kitchen worktops, doorknobs, toilet areas, telephone handsets, dustbins and pet areas. I also use this on the inside of my car on the dashboard and steering wheel after cleaning, not only to kill any germs that might be lurking, but also because it leaves my car smelling fresh. When using on areas where food is prepared, the surface should be rinsed with water
Thirdly, it can be used on soft furfaces such as carpets, curtains and upholstery. I also use it on car seats and the inside of to keep things smelling clean and fresh. I also find it very useful to spray on matresses inbetween bed changes. The uses for this product are almost limitless.
I use Oust in all three ways and am always happy with results. I have yet to find a fault with this product and I would highly recommend it to fit in with any cleaning routine.
Widely available from supermarkets, a 400ml can will cost around £3.27 but prices do vary from store to store. This might seem somewhat pricey, but for a product with as many uses as this one, it is worth it in my opinion.

I primarily bought this Oust 3-in-1 to clean my car seats. My car's interior was a bit dirty, stained and smelling and there was mould growing on some patches. I had tried fabric shampoo to no avail so I suspected I'd need some kind of anti-bacterial spray for fabrics. It was harder than I imagined to find this stuff! My last stop was Sainsburys where I was faced with the choice of a Dettol multi-purpose anti-bacteria spray or this Oust 3-in-1. The instructions on the Dettol were a bit ambiguous about using on all kinds of fabric furnishings though so I opted for the Oust. There were two fragrance choices of Oust available: Regular Oust or Garden Fresh. The latter comes in a pink design can emblazoned in pink blooms and as I wanted my car seats to smell beautiful I chose this.
Oust 3-in-1 is a multi function spray. You can use it as an aerosol and also as a anti-bacterial spray on both hard and soft surfaces. It's formula kills 99.9% of bacteria on surfaces. In it's aerosol form it eliminates bad odours in the air. Used on hard, non-porous surfaces and soft surfaces it kills bacteria and the odours that cause bacteria. I should point out that it is not really a cleaning product and this is stated in the instructions for use. Surfaces should be pre-cleaned with another dedicated cleaning product before you apply this Oust 3-in-1. This is for killing the germs and bacteria only. Due to the toxic chemicals in the formula of this spray if you are using it in an area where food is prepared you need to rinse the treated area with water aferwards.
On soft surfaces, which is what I used this for initially, you have to spray the area until visibly wet. It is recommended that you try a fabric test in an inconspicuous area first to make sure the spray doesn't bleach the fabric. You must then leave the fabric wet for 15 minutes to soak in. You can then repeat this step if necessary. On my car I actually used a bristle brush over the seats after using applying spray as above.
The fragrance of this 'Garden Fresh' variety is very strong and I recommend using in a well ventilated area. The chemical agents also have a strong effect on your breathing and the first time I used this my throat was sore as I think I applied too much in an enclosed space. If you have any sort of asthma problems I'd avoid this as it would just be too strong. When the fabric is dry the fragrance remains and is very attractive smelling, being a lot like summer flowers.
The spray successfully treated my car seat for the mould problem and also left my car smelling fine. I should point out though that immediately after use on fabrics you should leave these to dry fully before getting near them again. The spray also can not be used on bedding, mattresses, pet beds, clothing, leather or silk. The diagrams showing acceptable use for soft furnishings shows the spray being applied to a sofa and cushions. It can also be used to good effect on curtains.
As an aerosol this is one of the strongest smelling I've come across and because I have three dogs this is a blessing! The spray really does transform the atmosphere of the house from rank to flowery and fresh in an instant. It works on the strongest of smells from animals to greasy or spicy cooking smells. I do reccommend this fragrance of Oust 3-in-1 as everyone in my household likes the sweet, petal-oil aroma. You need to press the bouncy top for about five seconds. Be aware that the spray dispenses the liquid quickly and it the mist is propelled as a tight shoot about 40-50 cm into the air.
As a spray for hard surfaces this can be used on things like bins, tiles doorknobs, nappy containers, toilet areas and in bathroom/kitchen areas where bacteria might be rife. It's great for freshening up these areas whilst knowing you are eliminating harmful germs too. It can be also be used on hard surfaced 'pet areas' but not on plastic baskets, toys etc. and the animals should also be removed before use. You must use it in the same way as you would on soft furnishings - leave on the surface for 15 mninutes. I have found though that you can spray it straight onto some surfaces and it will just dry - you don't need to return to it again. I have used this behind my sink where there was a bit of black mould building up around the tiles. It works wonders.
Things you might need to know about the spray is that it is highly flammable. Before using the product it is advised you use this in one room and wait twentyfour hours to see if anyone in the house is allergic. It can not be used on painted wood, painted surfaces or acrylic plastics. Pets need to be kept away from the product as it is a danger to them. The can is fully recyclable if the plastic top is removed. Lastly, it costs around £3.09 for a 400ml sized can.

I originally bought Oust 3 in 1 from Tesco as part of a mammoth cleaning product shop. I was moving into my new flat and, having been in there for some parties with the previous resident, I envisaged there would be lot of cleaning to be done! The initial appeal to me was mostly to do with the price. It was on offer for £2 at the time which was only a few pence more than the Oust air freshener I had intended on buying. Added to this the fact that Oust 3 in 1 claimed to have not one but three uses and I was sold. The regular price, for those taking notes, is around the £2.99 mark.
The can itself is a large 400ml aerosol which is slightly shorter and chubbier than the standard Oust air freshener. It is made by SC Johnson (a family company - I couldn't help but add that!). I chose the outdoor scent which has a green lid but it is also available in garden fresh scent which has a pink cap.
The packaging claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria on surfaces and can be used on hard surfaces as a disinfectant, soft surfaces as an antibacterial and as an odour eliminator.
I suppose the easiest way to review it is to explain how it lives up to each of the three in one uses. Regarding the claim that it kills 99.9% of bacteria on surfaces, I have no way of proving otherwise so I will assume this is true. Unless of course Kim and Aggie come knocking on my door and prove otherwise.
I'm going to be awkward and work through the list of uses backwards so first up is odour elimination. I tend to use Oust as my preferred air freshener as, unlike most others available, it doesn't just mask the odour but actually 'kills' bad smells at their source. Again, it's hard to tell whether this is simply hype but I am inclined to agree with this. I'm a smoker so I try to spritz the flat once a day with this. Also, if my little kitty cat has made a big smell, I usually spray a bit of this near to her tray after disposing of her doings. The outdoor fresh scent isn't particularly strong so but the spray does do a good job of removing bad smells quickly. The one disadvantage I find of using it as an odour eliminator is the harshness of the spray as it can get caught in the back of your throat and there is a strong chemically smell when you first spray it but this does tend to die down relatively quickly.
Secondly, it can be used as an antibacterial on soft surfaces. Whilst I have done this, you will need to flout the warning on the back of the can which states 'Do not use on bedding, mattresses, clothing, leather or silk." Now this doesn't leave too many soft surfaces that you can use it on. I don't have carpets and the blinds in my flat rarely need cleaning. I have to say though that I have disobeyed the warnings of SC Johnson and used it sparingly on the mattress, and my bedding (where the cat likes to lie at the foot of the bed) and on clothes. It works similarly to Febreeze and helps to get rid of bad smells and any nasty bacteria you might be worried about.
And finally, you can use it as a disinfectant on hard surfaces. For this, the can advises you to 'Spray surface until visibly wet. Allow product to remain on surface for 15 minutes. Reapply every time you clean.' If the surface is in contact with food, you will need to rinse with tap water after using the Oust 3 in 1 spray. Now I have to admit, I don't often use this on hard surfaces. It isn't really a cleaner and I think a good wipe down with some warm soapy water or a bit of bleach in dirtier areas does the job without the need for using this as well. If you are extremely paranoid about bacteria then you could use it after cleaning, but that all seems a tad OCD to me. I do however tend to give it a quirt in the bottom of the bin after removing the rubbish bag (regardless of whether or not I bothered to give the bin a thorough clean!) and I usually squirt it in the cat litter tray after washing it and leave it to dry before putting her liner and litter in. In both cases, I think I chose to use it more for its odour eliminating properties than to kill bacteria.
The product does last well and I've had my tin for a couple of months now and there is still a fair amount left when I shake the can. I wouldn't say it was a necessity for every household but, if you already use the air freshener, then this is a useful alternative that does the same job and a little bit more and can work out cheaper if it is available on offer.
Oust 3 in 1 is designed to kill bacteria and eliminate odours in the air, on hard surfaces and on soft surfaces. This is where it gets its name from.
The aerosol can is made by S.C Johnson. It is silver coloured with a picture of green fields, blue water and flowers on the front. The cap is plastic and grass green in colour.
It can be used to eliminate odours in the air by pointing the can towards the centre of the room and spraying for around five seconds.
To kill bacteria on hard, non porous surfaces, spray the surface until it is visibly wet. Allow the product to stay on the surface for at least fifteen minutes and rinse off if required. I find that it is best to rinse work surfaces as this smells very strong and you can taste it if you put cutlery on the work surface, even the next day. However, on my bathroom, or kitchen floors I leave it to dry and don't rinse.
To kill bacteria and freshen soft surfaces, spray until wet and allow to dry. Always test a small area first.
This product kills bacteria but it can also kill mould, mildew and viruses.
I find this very effective if someone has been smoking in my house, or to quickly freshen clothing that has picked up the smell of smoke. It also freshen areas where my dog sleeps. This is useful to spray around the edge of my bath from time to time as I have had a problem with mildew there. It solves the problem.
Dustbins and kitchen bins soon smell fresh again with a quick squirt of Oust 3 in 1.
I like this product and find it very effective. The only problem I have is that its sharp, almost ozone like aroma makes my nose run. I must be allergic to something in it. I have to use it and leave the room for about fifteen minutes while the air clears.
This is worth buying, especially if you have pets.
Eliminates unwanted odours by neutralising molecules leaving the air fresh and pleasant smelling. /
