The people who lived in my house before me must have hung loads of photos, because when I moved in, the walls were dotted with picture hooks, some of which there was no way of getting out. I didn't mind, as it meant I would have to hang lots of photos and canvasses myself, which I enjoyed shopping for and looking at!
I was in Dunelm Mill one day just as I was coming to the end of decorating my house, and I had banned myself from buying anything else non-essential. Then I saw this canvas on the shelf, and oops, somehow it found its way into my basket.
This canvas measures 40cm horizontally, and 50cm vertically, so it is a decent size. It comes with fittings attached to the back of it, and comes shrinkwrapped in very thin plastic. I found that in my local Dunelm Mill, most of the stock of this canvas had ripped plastic but this did not effect or ruin the canvas inside.
The canvas itself is a black and white photograph of an old white Fiat 500 sitting outside a very old, rustic looking house which has a balcony. I can only assume the picture was taken in Italy. It looks very 1960s and retro; rustic, even. I love the vintage look and I also adore Fiat 500s, so this canvas was perfect for me.
WHERE TO HANG IT
I initially bought this for my kitchen as I have other 1960s era posters in there, but I ran out of wall space, so this canvas has since hung in my hallway, office (well, I call it an office but it's really the place I keep all my CDs and books!) and the spare room. Therefore I think this canvas is very versatile and could be used in any room. It'd look lovely in the living room as it would be a bit of a focal point, but it doesn't match the decor in my living room so that's the only reason it hasn't been hung in there also.
This is a box canvas so it is very easy to hang, as all you need is a picture hook on the wall. Handy for me, as I hate faffing about with hanging frames.
I found this very good quality. The wood is very sturdy, and the canvas itself can simply be wiped clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth if it gets dusty. It has been hanging opposite the window of my spare room for many months now, but it hasn't become faded or discoloured from the sun coming through the window. It also hasn't become marked or dented in any way despite being moved from room to room.
This costs a brilliant £8.99. Some canvasses can be very expensive so I think this price is ridiculously cheap given how nice the photo on the canvas is.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
I would definitely recommend this, and I am glad that I bought it. A lot of black and white canvasses are normally photos of eg. New York's skyline, or London, so I think it is nice to have something a little different.
