Picture Pockets Mega Picture Pocket
Advantages: A great way to store and display treasured memories
Disadvantages: Many people have moved onto digital media for photo display now
In Dooyoos 'Ten Days of Christmas' competition, I was lucky enough to win on day two, meaning two mystery prizes made their way to my house . I've already reviewed the luxury soap I recieved, and now it's time to review the second item - the Mega Picture Pocket .
Picture Pockets are really exactly what you see in the picture above - a clear plastic sheet of pockets, into which you can slide photographs to display . They are double sided, so although in this particular size there are 40 pockets, you could actually insert 80 photographs and reverse the picture pocket according to your mood. They come complete with a cord for hanging, and really hanging this from any available hook is pretty simple . They take photographs of 4 by 6 inches, and have a mixture of spaves for portrait or landscape display .
It arrived rolled up, and the first thing to do, as per the instructions on the pack, was to lie this out flat in a warm room so the plastic could soften and the inevitable kinks that come with being stored rolled could be flattened out .
While this was happening I had to decide what I was going to put into the picture pockets . As is the case with many people nowadays, I've long since moved on from hard copy photos (with the exception of some large portrait photos) and most of mine are stored on my computer, or displayed in a digital photo frame . I did dig out my old photo albums, but most of my photos were actually a little larger than the pockets, and I was very reluctant to start slicing up treasured memories with scissors .
Then I remembered my pile of postcards - a mixture of seaside postcards from visits to my boyfriends family in Eastbourne, and postcards from further afield, recieved either from holidaying friends and family, or as part of a postcard swap on one of the sites I'm a member of . It turns out, postcards are exactly thye right size for popping in here . So I got started, and really is was very easy, although the plastic in the picture pockets was a little stuck to itself after storage . It was weasy to slot the postcards in, with the pockets even being thick enough to slip in a couple of my collection of unusual beermats .
What I ended up with was a colourful collection of postcards on one side of the picture pocket, bringing back fond memories of time spent with my boyfriends family in Eastbourne, or displaying far off places that others had visited. It was colourful, attractive, and interesting, and my daughter in particular took great delight in ticking off places she'd been .
On the other side, is my collection of unusual beermats, shamelessly filched from pubs far and wide, and mostly scribbled on, as I score beers as I drink them . This is a useful reminder of beers I have already tried (I'm working my way through a book of 300 beers to try before you die at the moment) and the scores I have given them . Whilst I don't have the beermats on display, it's a useful reference of the ones I have so far sampled from the book (27) and I may well have to invest in a couple more of these picture pockets to help me keep track.
I think these are a great way of storing photographs or postcards , or even perhaps childrens artwork, in a way that can be attractively displayed, and easily changed when the mood takes you. The mega picture pocket which costs 9.36 from Amazon, and holds 40 photographs. There are various different sizes available, so even if you have only a few pictures to display, there may well be one to suit you!
4 stars - a great way to display memories.
Summary: a good idea.
