Rubbish Bags lunch bag -
We were recently in London and visited the Natural History Museum. This of course included the obligatory visit to the shop and some subsequent purchases.
Little Miss did need a new bag for her packed lunch and this caught her eye.
As well as the packed lunch bags Rubbish Bags products also produce shoulder bags and purses. They are made by a women's cooperative in the Philippines, from recycled juice cartons, non-biodegradable foil and plastic packaging, which would otherwise end up in landfill or incinerators. The juice cartons are sorted, sanitised and dried, and then sewn together, transforming them into green products. This idea of having something which was recycled was very appealing to Little Miss as they have done a lot of work at school about becoming an eco school and recycling products.
Another thing which appealed was the fact that sales of the bag would support the Natural History Museum's research into understanding diseases like malaria and conserving the biodiversity of our planet. This was a definite to buy especially since the bag was also one which Little Miss really liked.
The bags cost £14 and come in three colours-yellow orange and red. We bought the red one although the colour refers to the trim and not the whole bag and I would say that the colour is more pink than red. The bags are nice and sturdy with the picture of the carton being repeated round the bag, on the base, inside the bag and on the handles. The bag we bought has a bright lemon tea design which coordinates nicely with the trim. The top of the bag has a zip which opens the top of the bag on three sides so it's nice and easy to get food in and out. The handles are fairly rigid and very strong but fortunately they have no sharp or rough edges. Its big enough to get a bottle of juice, sandwiches fruit, and the other bits and pieces which children feel are essential for their packed lunch
VERDICT...
The bag has proved to be very popular with Little Miss and the children in her class. It is well made and looks good, and has plenty of space for her lunch without having things squashed. I like the fact that her juice can stand up in the bag unlike her previous bag where he had to lie at the bottom of the bag.
The downside is that it is tricky to clean and also that I don't think it keeps things cool but at the minute in this weather we don't need that.
A recommended product.
