I don't really think of myself as a mega stingy person, but where I can save some extra pennies I am always willing to give it a try. I am a big sainsbury's shopper and often find their basics products are just as good so some time last year I tried out their basic's cling film....oh what a mistake that was!
I bought the Sainsbury's Basics' Wrapping Film which costs around 50p for a 15m roll. This seemed good value and I didn't think it could be that bad. Packaged in the usual sainsbury's basic design of a white background with an orange border it screams "budget" but once hidden away at home I had thought it wouldn't be too much of a problem.
I don't use cling film too much, usually for wrapping some food to take to work - sandwiches, bagels etc or sometimes for covering leftover food at home to put in the fridge. The film is actually so useless I could find no purpose for it! For starters it is really thin, and tears awfully easily. It was extremely hard to peel off a straight sheet of this as it kept ripping in places and doing that awful thing where it goes round and round and you can't remember where the cling film starts/ends to try and rectify it! This made it near to impossible to gather enough cling film off the roll to be able to wrap any food in it.
My next issue with this basic cling film is actually the packaging. Strangely enough even though the film is thin as anything, the box is made so cheaply that there is meant to be a "sharp" perforated edge for tearing the cling film off in a straight, even line and this is so incompetent it can't even do so. To try and tear a piece off I had to either use scissors or I actually on more than one occasion used the cutting edge on my foil box to try and cut a piece off to use. What an effort!
Overall, it is definitely fair to say that this wrapping film is nothing short of a disaster and should be avoided at all costs. The cheapness of it really does not outweigh the benefits as there are clearly none. It is genuinely a waste of 50p or so, so I would recommend even the Sainsbury's brand (not the basics) which costs a bit more but does the job fantastic.
Summary: complete waste of money!
