While purchasing the items I would need for my Easter party I came across these lovely string decorations in Poundland and decided to buy a couple of packs to brighten up the bay window, I knew they would go nicely with the Easter decorations I had already bought and for £1 they were well worth the purchase in my opinion.
What you get in a packet are six individual strings along which alternating bunny faces and Easter eggs have been threaded. The beauty of these decorations is that the attachments are put on using a basic hinge so you can either hang them from one end of the string and have them dangling down, or attach both ends to the wall or ceiling for a Christmas ceiling decoration type effect. The bunny faces and Easter eggs will naturally fall straight so that they are facing the correct way, so don't worry if you want to put them up on the wall as this doesn't mean that the decorations will look lopsided.
I hung my strings from one end so that they fell vertically down the inside of my window, it was lucky I'd bought two packs actually as the string decorations are not terribly substantial and looked rather thin when I had just hung the one packet of six. It's not really helped by the fact that each string is seven feet long, yet there are only eight decorations on each one so this means there are lengthy pieces of undecorated string which makes the whole affair look a little cheap. I corrected this by hanging the second packet in between the original six strings, only hanging them slightly higher to more evenly distribute the bunny faces and Easter egg designs.
The designs are actually very pretty in a basic and understated way. The white bunny faces are cut from card and have a smiling face penned onto them, they almost look as though they were made by children such is the design and I actually plan to make some of these decorations with my artistic ten year old granddaughter next time we decide to have a party. The eggs add some colour to the decorations, although again these are very basic looking which was fine for me but my daughter mentioned that she thought they were rather dull and uninspired compared to decorations I have bought in the past.
The only irritation I have with these string decorations is the fact that there is no hanging loop at the end of the string. I have arthritis in my hands, which doesn't pose too many problems in normal day to day life but I might as well say I'm going to play football for Chelsea as try to tie a fiddly knot in thin string like this - exactly the reason I am no longer able to knit or crochet as much as I would like. Luckily my brother was on hand to tie the strings and also put them up as I am several feet short of the eight feet I would have to be to get these decorations as high as they needed to be placed!
I do think they're lovely though and considering how cheap they were to buy, I was able to get them down in one piece and have stored them for next year which is more than can be said for more expensive decorative items I bought for the party! The light coming through the window showcased them well and while they don't sparkle or shimmer, the sunlight picked out the colours beautifully and the younger children in particular were rapt as they watched the bunny faces moving slightly in the breeze from the window. Mind you, this didn't last long once their little radars realised there was chocolate on the table!
