Stabilo Boss Highlighter
Advantages: Long lasting, easy to use
Disadvantages: no clip
I use Stabilo boss highlighters on a daily basis at work. When checking engineering documents it is usual practice to highlight checked work in a colour coded system for auditing:
The system my company uses is as follows
Yellow - Correct
Green - Modified in the document
(Red Biro for errors and corrections)
Hence, I mostly use the yellow and green colours.
The stabilo boss pen is in my opinion a higher quality highlighter than other brands I have used. It is available in a range of colours including pink, yellow, green, blue, purple and orange.
The pen is made from a hard plastic shell in the colour of the highlighter and has the stabilo boss logo printed on the side. I think the design has become a design classic and is easily recognisable.
The highlighter has a hard black plastic lid which clicks into place, stopping the pen from drying out. Unlike other own brands no clip is provided on the lid for clipping onto pockets or folders. I don't use these on other brands so do not consider the lack of a clip an important feature.
The nib of the highlighter is angled with a broad side (5mm) for highlighting blocks of colour and a pointed tip (2mm) for detailed highlighting requirements. The nib is made from a good quality fire which beats many competitors in dispersing the ink well. I find that the highlighter takes longer to dry out and stop working when the lid is left off than other brands.
The Stabilo boss highlighter appears to contain more ink than many competitiors, or it could just be more economical in it's ink dispersion. I find a highlighter can last me about a month of pretty heavy use. in comparison I used an own brand WHsmith highlighter at work which only lasted around a week.
The price of these highlighters can vary dramatically dependant on the shop you go to. They sell as single markers for between £1-2 and as as multipacks for slighly under £1 per highlighter. These are a little more expensive than other brands, but the quality is superior and they last longer so the cost is definitley worth paying.
Summary: A good staple piece of stationary
