Stabilo Boss Highlighter
Advantages: Long lasting, Ink quality, does not dry out.
I have been using Stabilo Boss Highlighters for many years now. I remember my days at University, spending hours of my time revising and making notes for those all important exams. It was those Stabilo Boss highlighters I used to always have at hand, making highlighting important texts easily visible.
==WHAT IS SCHWAN STABILO==
The Stabilo Boss Highlighters are highlighter pens manufactured by the German company Schwan-STABILO. The company also make other types of pens, pencils, colouring and cosmetics. However their main point of sale is the Stabilo Boss Highlighter pens and these highlighters are the most popular branded highlighters worldwide.
The company was created in 1855, where they originally made pencils. Under the name Grossberger & Kurz Bleistiftfabrik their main focus was the small pencil factory located in Germany which is where they produced and sold their pencils. However due to financial debt and crisis talks, the company was sold in 1865 to Gustav Adam Schwanhäußer. He managed to fix a lot of the problem areas at the company, and managed to raise cooperation to new heights, introducing a whole new company design logo which consists of a Swan logo which is still the main design logo used today.
The pencil business begins to be a huge success in the 1880s with a lot of sales being exported abroad. However from 1908 the unfortunate passing of Adam Schwanhäußer, meant the business was passed on to his two sons. From 1953 they expanded their line by introducing the ball point pens, felt-tip pens and colour felts.
In 1970 the company was renamed Stabilo Boss and is when the creation and manufacturing of highlighter pens started. With the huge demand, it was not long before the product was introduced into offices and schools. Even today in 2013 the company continues to prosper and out sell its competitors; being known as the most used brand for highlighters.
==DESIGN & USE==
The highlighters pens are of a somewhat rectangular shape. The shape at the top of the highlighters looks visually thinner than the rim, with the design increasing in thickness as the design moves down to the lid of the highlighter, making the highlighers easier to hold while using.
The highlighers come ins variation of colours including yellow, green, florescent pink, normal pink, orange and blue. There are more variations available, but these are the main ones that came in my pack.
The lid is very easy to remove, and once removed allows the marker nib to be visible. I found that the diagonal shaped nib makes it very simple to use and makes for an area of text to be highlighted with clearer colour and neatness, and hardly any smudges.
I frequently use these highlighters at work when highlighting important words and phrases on documents. I found that the translucent ink is just the right consistency to make text clearly visible, and does not seep through paper like other marker type pens would. The eye catching fluorescent colours make the important texts really stand out, which is basically what you want when using highlighter pens.
I tend to use the yellow colour more often that the other colours, as it in my opinion the yellow colour makes text show up more clearly and emphasises the importance of the text when other staff members read it.
The other positive aspect of these pens is that the ink hardly gets on the hand or fingers, which is mainly due to the well designed nib. However on the rare occasion if the ink did find its way onto my fingers or clothes I was very easily able to wash them off with water.
There were times when I would forget to place the lid back on the highlighter, leaving them without their lid for a few hours on my office desk. I was really pleased to find that on the many occasions when this happened, the highlighters never dried out, meaning they can last an impressive few hours without the lid.
In terms of price, I buy the highlighters in a pack of 4 at around £3 from Asda, However they are available from any stationary shop or supermarket at similar prices.
These highlighter pens are made with very good quality ink that lasts for long periods of time. I have had highlighters last me a good whole year without the need for replacing. Although the price is a little higher than some of other branded highlighters, I still opt for these mainly due to their quality and longevity.
I would recommend this product and would rate them 10/10
