Advantages: Erases well. Price okay. Cardboard housing.

Disadvantages: Boring looking. Cardboard housing.

The Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser works very well as a pencil eraser. My daughter has one for her homework, mostly her maths homework, and on more than one occasion I've needed to work with her while she's correcting something and so have watched her use this eraser while also using it myself from time to time. I bought a twin pack of the Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser from £3.35 - which equates to £1.67 per eraser which seems like a decent size because each one lasts absolutely ages.

The eraser is a good size, measuring 5.5 cm x 2.3 cm x 1.2 cm and so it is bigger than most and also a good size to grab hold of when using it. It has an outside cardboard cover which is designed to keep the eraser clean between use and so you can slide the eraser in and out of the housing. However, this is really only useful when the eraser is still near full-size and once it starts to wear down then the cardboard can be a bit of a hindrance and I know my daughter has ended up taking it off and throwing it away.

The eraser works well to remove all normal pencil markings and does so gently so that it does not mess up the paper. Obviously, there may be some indentations left on the paper, but the actual pencil markings are well removed. Although it looks a bit boring and isn't a cute novelty shape, it does work better than the other erasers we have tried in the past and so I can recommend it.

Summary: Recommended.
