Staedtler Triplus Colour Fibre Tip Pens
Advantages: lovely array of colours, nice to hold, smooth to use
Disadvantages: may seem pricey
I have always been a fan of stationery and used to love buying new folders, pens and although the 'gadget; style stationery stuff before I started a new year at school; though now I am at college we tend not to use these items, yet still wanting to buy something bright and colourful, yet at the same time useful I decided to buy these Staedlur Triplus pens.
I think most people will recognise the name as it has become quite common and is also well known for being slightly on the pricey side and I think one of the most well known items they sell are these fibre tip pens. I bought mine in Tesco for £5 for the above pack, however there was a slightly larger pack containing more shades of each pen at a slightly higher price. These can also be purchased in other larger supermarkets, Staples and most stationery stores.
In the pack you get ten different coloured pens being; yellow, orange, pink, red, light blue, dark blue, light green, dark green, brown and black, so you get a good array of colours and is a large enough variety that you do not feel that there is a colour 'missing'.
The pens are 'Fibre Tip' which basically means they are like a felt tip, however are of much better quality and tend to have a rounded nib that goes into a point only at the very end. They have a very thin nib, which is why I chose them as this makes them very easy to use, both to write with the pens, but also so highlight.
The pens are ever so smooth to write with, unlike a felt tip which can be quite 'scratchy' or 'lagging' and they simply glide across the page. On the page they look much like felt tips, however have a slightly thicker, smoother line, though is still think enough to easily use to write with.
I also use these pens to highlight certain things, which they work just as well for. I either do this by shading or dashing through it. Though when doing this I did find that the darker colours did not work as well for this as they tended to cover the writing underneath so I could not read it, therefore the lighter colours worked much better.
I have been using these pens for about a month now and the colours are still great and none of them show any sign of running out, however I have noticed that the nib had become slightly more rounded on those that I use more often (the pink one!) and the lines are slightlt broader than what they us to be. Though, they are still thin enough and easy enough to write with and to be able to read back what I have written clearly.
The pens are really thin in shape and are slightly rectangular/triangular to hold, despite this I find them a really comfortable hold and fit nicely in my hand, especially because the pens glide so well it makes them very nice to use. At first I found that the lids were quite stiff to click back on, but after a while this became much easier, but you do need to make sure you hear a click otherwise there is a possibility of the pens drying out.
The colours of the pens are lovely, they are really vibrant and definitley stand out on the page and they stay true to the colour of the pen. Though they do not match up to the colour on the packaging where they have made the pink look purple and the blue a teal colour, however, I prefer the colours they actually are.
The packaging they come in is really great for keeping all the pens together and organised. Also if you flip back the lid and tuck it under it creates a little 'stand' which creates easy access to the pens.
Overall, I would definitley recommend these pens as they are to easy and smooth to use and although they may seem a little 'pricey' for felt tips, I feel that the price definitley reflects the quality!
