Willow Tree Collection
Advantages: gorgeous range and sentimental
Disadvantages: easily broken
It was around the time I was pregnant that I first started noticing the willow tree figure range in shop windows and I think that goes some way to tell you about the kind of sentimental figures that you will be able to buy from this range. I have been bought quite a few of these figures over the years and I have also bought some for friends too and so this is my review of my experience with them.
The willow tree range is designed by Susan Lordi who uses family and friends as inspiration for her range. The range was introduced in the year 2000 and is going from strength to strength with items such as trinket boxes, Christmas decorations and even a nativity range being introduced! Susan Lordi actually hand carves her designs and then they are cast from her original design for production.
What is lovely about this range is that there is literally going to be a figure of some sort to meet your needs. The figures that I love the most are the ones centred on family and so when I had my son back in 2005 I received a tall figure holding a small child close to her and I have also received smaller ones with babies too which have wings to signify protecting your child. There aren't just figures about babies and family though and you can also get figures to say happy birthday, thank you, get well soon or simply a thinking of you sentimental one. I have a good few figures on display in my home but I also have a small wall plaque about friendship which my friend bought for me and I have also bought my grandma a small trinket box and they are all made so very well and are simple yet effective.
There are so many in the range and they are really beautiful to look at despite being so simple. These ornamental pieces are not garish in any way and are decorated in cream and neutral browns so they look simple and timeless in my opinion. What I really love about this range though is the fact that the faces on the figures are actually blank and so you are left to decide how the figure may be feeling, or how it makes you feel which I think is such a simple yet clever idea. The figures do look as though they are hand carved as well which is a nice touch. They are smooth but look as though they are a little rough around the edges and this really adds to the charm for me.
My only little issue with these figures is the fact that they are really pretty fragile. Having them on display when I had a young son meant that they would sometimes be knocked down and a couple of the heads fell off the figures! Now I would say that they do glue back on ok and it is hard to tell anything has happened to them at all unless you really get up close and have a look but they are fragile pieces I think. This is to be expected though really and not so much a criticism of the items but more a warning that you do need to be careful with them or risk them breaking.
These items seem to start around the ten pounds mark and can go up to around thirty pounds and so there is something to sort most budgets. Many of the smaller figures have metal angel wings on the back to almost act as a guardian angel and they are really pretty and only around £10-£12 depending on where you purchase and make a beautiful gift.
I would certainly recommend this range and love all of the items that I have in it. My only issue personally is lack of places to display these or I would probably keep on buying more and more.
Thank you for reading my review!
