“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cushion „
We recently replaced our cushions in the living room, purchasing these Tesco chunky knit ones in red for £10 each. We bought two on the spare of the moment because they looked so comfy and cosy for over the Winter months. I bought them in store, but they are also available online via Tesco Direct. I chose the red colour to match other accessories, but they are also available in grey and cream.
The cushions are fairly large at 43cm x 43cm and are very soft - even one of the staff in the shop made a reference to how cosy they felt. The cushion is made of polyester and the cover of the cushion is actually acrylic. It has a very small cable knit pattern across it which I felt looked modern but quite traditional at the same time. The cover has a zip fastening and is removable so that it can be washed by hand (it is only advisable to wash via hand). One positive is that they haven't shrunk at all while washing.
Now the downsides. There are a few I'm afraid. These cushions are totally inadequate to be used for anything but for show really, which just isn't practical for us with them being used on the sofa. The sofa is used constantly all day every day. Tesco have popped these into the bedroom cushions section on their website so I'm not sure if they're designed for continued and thorough daily use or rather for show only, but I have to say that there was no mention of this in store when I bought them so I assumed that they would adequate for our daily use.
The problem I have is with their overall shape. Our cushions get thrown around, we lie on them as pillows when we're lounging watching TV, we sit with them at the side of us - they basically stay on the sofa and are always there. But these can't deal with that. As soon as they are sat on, or even next to, the whole shape of the cushion just disappears - the cushion inside squashes up and the knitted cover just ends up all misshapen and squashed too. This started to happen about two days after using so it's not even been because of wear over time! When I stand up I always try to pop them back to shape by pulling the cover around and stretching the cushion back to shape and trying to plump them up but the next time we sit down or use them to lie on it just happens all over again. The edging around the cushion now doesn't match the positioning of the edge of the cushion inside - they just look so messy.
The next issue is bobbling. They look a disgrace in that respect too - and that started to happen long before I hand washed the covers for the first time. They have bobbled all over and have also plucked very easily too, which did surprise me given the thick feeling of the knit. Then after washing, although the cover didn't shrink, it ended up even more bobbled - basically just looking very worn and tired.
Finally the cosiness - that was the reason I originally chose these particular ones. Due to the problems outlined, the cosiness has just been lost completely. They no longer feel all snuggly and comfy, rather just messy and annoying. The cushion inside has never been fantastic for padding and plumpness but now they're just beyond repair.
As you can probably tell, I will not be buying these again. I did even contemplate taking them back as I don't feel that they were ever fit for purpose but I was unsure whether I'd just be told they were just for show. This really is not made clear upon purchase though. They are ready for the rubbish bin now and next time I will be going for cushions a) not from Tesco and b) not with a knitted design because we've experienced nothing but trouble from these! To me, £10 for a supermarket cushion was expensive but I assumed for that I would receive a high quality item - believe me, these are anything but that. I've no choice but to rate these only one star (and even that feels a bit generous!)
Thanks for reading :o)
