Tesco Value A4 White Paper
Advantages: Good colour, decent quality, very affordable
Disadvantages: Not great for hi-res images
I first bought Tesco Value paper because, to be blunt, it was cheap. At less than £2.50 a ream, where most of the paper I can buy today is closer to £5, it was affordable particularly for drafts where I honestly don't care about the quality.
Since that first test purchase it's become the main paper I buy for everyday use. It is actually white, unlike many cheaper papers which have a yellowish tone, and doesn't tear too easily. While it is thin and slightly translucent, it is easily good enough for everyday use and letters, as well as the draft prints I originally picked it up for. The only thing I haven't found this paper works well for is high quality ink-jet images, since there is a slight bleed and the colours aren't as bright, but then that isn't really what this is designed for.
The paper comes in a standard paper wrapping, glued down the back and at the ends, and mainly white with the Tescos value logo on it. Sometimes this isn't glued properly, so it is as well to check the one you are picking up is sealed before you take it off the shelf. Also, when carrying it, I prefer not to have the weight against one of the glue-sealed ends (carrying them long side downwards) as I have had one split across the seal when the glue gave. On the back it has details of the product: usually A4 size, 75gsm. It also has the Tesco quality promise and a customer service number to call (or contact online) if there are any problems with it. There is a warning concerning storage, which boils down to keep it dry and away from fire - two things that seem fairly obvious as it is paper.
Once opened the paper inside is properly cut into sheets with no ragged ends, and seperates easily in use. While the printer I use is normally fairly fussy about paper, I haven't had to deal with any jams using this one. I've also not had any packs I've needed to take back due to manufacturing problems (miscolored, miscut etc.) so the manufacturing quality is high. Drafts which I printed several months ago have not discoloured or faded, so the paper lasts well.
As a Tesco product it is only available from the chain, but this does have a few advantages. If you regularly shop there, it's easy to pick up, since you can just throw it in when you get the grocery shopping. If you go for Tescos online you can order in bulk and have it delivered, saving you the hassle of carrying it. Finally, since it is a Tesco product, you can get clubcard points on it, use standard money-off deals, and get vouchers in your quarterly leaflet, all of which help you save more money on printing.
If you are bulk printing a lot of text documents, this paper is ideal, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Summary: Cheap, cheerful and ideal for bulk printing.
