Disadvantages: scratchy to write with, ink doesn't come out, unreliable
I mainly buy bic biros when in need of a pen as I mainly write in biros rather than the ink pens I used to love using in school. However I thought it would be nice to just have a few pens lying around quick on hand for when I needed to jot something down whilst on the telephone or in the kitchen etc.
I found tesco sold these value pens for 35-40p. They came in a pack of 10 and had 4 blue pens, 3 black and 3 red. I would have preferred it to have more black pens as I write mainly more in black rather than blue but still the pens should in theory last a while and it shouldn't make much difference.
The pens come wrapped in clear wrapping so you can see them and the packaging does not state much on it apart from that they are biros and medium. On opening the pens and using them I found I had to scribble quite a bit first on paper for the ink to come out, but thought nothing of it as this is standard for pretty much all pens.
I found after a few scribbles the pens worked fine and I could use it like any other biro with no problems with the ink. However after leaving it lying around and picking it up the next time I used it, I just could not get the ink flowing out of it!.. for instance I was on the phone and needing to write a phone number down and I remember it just wouldn't write properly and the ink was not coming out fully for writing a single number. I thought this might of been the post it note I was writing it on, but changed paper and found the same.
In the end I had to pick up a different pen altogether.
I came back to the pens to try them out once more and found it unreliable.. I tried rubbing the pen between my hands and shaking it (does that even work?! but I know we all do it when the pen is not working properly) and when I tried to write a sentence down on paper it would only half write it so that when looking at the written text is was very scratchy and not a solid line. I tried a different colour and found this to be the same so it was not just limited to the black.
I couldn't understand why the first time I used it, it seemed ok but when I went back to it - it just didn't want to write!.. I figured it was because in the first use the pen managed to get some ink out properly but the more you used it the more it didn't want to know lol.
Although the pen is cheap, I wouldn't really recommend it.. I can see the user pinklady1 on here from her past review had a good experience with it and gave the product 5 stars but I think she was just lucky as the most of us who have used these pens have rated them lowly.
I would have to give the product 1 star, it's definitely not one I would re-purchase.. even if I did just get a faulty pack of pens.. but it seems like i'm not the only one! These just didn't seem of good quality and it really wasn't worth the extra effort in trying to write something down with them.
They look fine and like any other standard biro in shape and design, but it is the ink flow that really lets it down.
Thanks for reading :)
