Advantages: very cheap, do the job
Disadvantages: very thin, a little rough
Over the festive period I normal have a few gatherings at home where I invite friends and family over for a night in with some food and drinks. This usually results in me doing some kind of small finger buffet or a chilli for everyone to share. Now one thing that I do not look forward to after entertaining is washing the pots and cleaning up the mess so I usually opt for disposable plates, cutlery and of course napkins. When shopping for some napkins recently I spotted the Tesco Value white napkins in packs of 100 and thought for the price I would give them a try.
The value napkins come in a pack of 100 and are 33cmx33cm and 1 ply. I paid just £0.48 for the pack of napkins which I thought was really good value for a pack of 100. Some disposable napkins can be a ridiculous price, I find it is a case of if they add a colour or a pattern to the napkins then they can inflate the price so much. To me a disposable napkin is simply that something that you use to wipe your mouth with after you have eaten and then it ends up in the bin!
I used these napkins a few days ago when my husbands had his friend over for a night playing poker and watching sport on TV. I made my signature dish....a chilli which I thought would go down well with a bunch of men drinking beer. I also managed to get a bowl of the chilli myself before I went to work and left a pile of the value napkins out for boys to use. I also used one the napkins and although they are rather thin they still do the job. I also found that it was best not to open the napkins out fully. The napkins are one ply but they are folded into four, when you do open them out fully you can almost see through them but I found that if you only open them out half way they are a little thicker.
The napkins also have a slightly textured pattern to them, this does seem to make them a little rougher than other napkins but to me a napkin is not like a tissue where you need it to be soft to prevent irritating your skin when using continuously. Don't get me wrong if it was a special occasion I would probably buy some better quality, nicely patterned napkins but for use at home for a few guests then I find these perfectly adequate. The napkins are great to leave for guests to pick up to use when eating or to wrap cake etc in if you have had a party.
These may not be the best quality napkins but for the price I can't really grumble and I would buy them again!
Summary: an adequate napkin for the price
