Tesco Value Paper Plates
Advantages: Cheap, ok quality
I wasn't planning on doing anything for my daughters third birthday party back at the beginning of November but at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to have a few of friends around for a little party. Cue a quick trip to my local Tesco for party supplies.
One thing I picked up were these paper plated from Tesco's value range. They are, obviously, only available from Tesco either in store or online. They cost £1.20 for a packet including 50 plates which work out to a little over 2 pence per plate.
The plate come wrapped up in plastic packaging with the normal white, blue and red Tesco value logo. The packaging is almost like cling film so it is easy to open without the need for scissors to get into the plates. The plates are then simply stacked on top of one another. I find that it is sometimes difficult to get each plate off from the stack one by one and often pick up a couple at a time. The plates themselves are 22 centimetres, the average size for a paper plate. The rim around the edge is grooved to give a better grip when you are holding them. Each plate is quite thin, I think this is why I have trouble getting one plate away from the stack at a time.
I served normal party food at my daughters party, sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, sausage on sticks, that type of thing. The kids were all around my daughters age and didn't have much trouble holding the plates, when they were walking with plates full of food, it did tend to roll around the plate quite a lot and a few bits fell off, but this isn't really the plates fault. I had a plate full of food myself and overloaded it, the plate didn't handle this too well and did sag in the middle, but it still held my food ok.
I would definitely recommend these plates due to the price, at a couple of pennies each I don't begrudge buying them. They are a nice size and can hold a decent amount of food without any problems, just don't overload the plate as it does begin to sag.
