Tesco Value Paper Plates
Advantages: Great time saver, cheap
Over the years I have always enjoyed throwing a party. If it is just a small gathering of family I would use my normal plates and glasses but when I throw a proper party with lots of people then I turn to paper plates.
This would then serve two purposes - firstly my crockery would not be in danger of getting broken and secondly there is no washing up after the party when I may well be feeling a little delicate!
Now, when it comes to paper plates, it is a case of the cheaper the better - I am going to be throwing them away after use anyway! The only time that I bought more expensive ones was when we were catering for an evening reception at home after our wedding and then I purchased gold coloured ones to match our theme.
The ones that I buy for general party use are the Tesco Value Paper Plates which are currently on sale for £1.20 for a pack of 50 plates - so a little over 2p per plate then.
The plates come wrapped in clear plastic with a piece of paper beneath upon which is the red and blue Tesco Value logo and a description of the contents of the package.
The plates themselves are plain white, 22cm in diameter and are ideal for using at a buffet. I also use them to display the food where possible thus keeping any washing up afterwards to an absolute minimum.
Obviously these plates, being paper, wouldn't be strong enough to withstand wet food so serving the Sunday lunch on these wouldn't be advisable. Having said that - for buffet food, even if some of it is hot (samosas, sausage rolls, quiche etc.) these plates are ideal.
At the end of the night, when everyone has gone home, I put any remaining food in airtight containers to keep it fresh. Then, if I have the energy, I just get a black refuse bag and go round collecting all the empty paper plates for disposal - so much easier than having to wash a pile of dirty crockery! If I have been partying a little too enthusiastically I just clear the food away and leave the black bag until the following morning!
I would definitely recommend these paper plates - I have used them lots of times with no problems either in use or disposal. At that price it is almost cheaper than washing up and is certainly easier!
Summary: Saves washing up!
