Tesco value Platters
Between my husband and I we have five children who are all grown up now but it does mean that family parties and celebrations do tend to be quite large even if we only invite our own children and partners. Whenever we cater for events we always have a huge amount of washing up and although I do have plenty of crockery I always find I do not have enough.
These foil platters are only £2.50 for five platters which, for those quick at maths, works out at 50p each. I think that is a fine bargain for what these are. They are a decent size and in fact they are the same size as my meat carving plates so they hold a decent amount of food.
They are made of a silver foil which is quite strong. We have piled sandwiches and other hot foods on these and never had one collapse on us. The other good thing about the being foil is that you can fill them with foods that you want to serve hot and them pop them in the oven to keep them warm prior to serving.
You can tart them up with doilies for cakes and put coloured napkins under them for sandwiches and hot foods. The napkins will absorb any excess grease if you have foods like samosas and sausage rolls on them too.
The fact that they are foil means that they go with any table setting if you have a theme they can easily be adapted by adding coloured napkins or something similar. They are not unattractive and have some engravings on them so they look quite nice really and certainly not cheap and 'value' brand.
They are not as strong as china plates and will bend if you are not sensible but be careful and sensible and you will have no problems with food spilling. We have never had an issue with food spilling because of the platters collapsing.
Although these are sold as disposable and obviously you can recycle then through you metal recycling. We have found that you can wash them and use them over and over again. I would not suggest a dishwasher but normal dish washing by hand works well and so at the price these are you can have emergency food serving dishes for more than one occasion.
These are far superior to paper plates, even good quality ones as you can put garnishes of salad and even an entire salad on these and there will be no problem with the wetness soaking in to the platter. You can in fact pretty much use them as you might a china plate so long as you are carful carrying the full platter.
They are metal so obviously do NOT put them in the microwave unless you want fireworks and a wrecked microwave.
RECOMMENDED?
Yes for the price these are great. I would struggle to find any other product that is such good value. They are large, recyclable and strong and look much more expensive than they actually are.
