The Really Tiny Book Light
Advantages: Shines perfectly on the page and batteries last a long time
Disadvantages: Clip isn't big enough for some books and kindles
I like to read a lot in bed and sometimes my lamp just doesn't give off enough light so I bought myself a really tiny book light a couple of years ago as a present to myself.
I can't remember what I paid exactly but I am pretty sure it was about £4.99 and it has proven itself to be really useful and hardwearing.
The really tiny book light is a clip on light that you clip on to the pages of a book so that the light is directly aimed at the page that you are reading. It is supposed to be designed so that you can read in bed without disturbing anyone else but as I am on my own this isn't really how I use it I just use it as I find it more comfortable to read with this than with my lamp.
The light has a rubberised texture and is available I lots of different bright colours. My one is bright pink but I have also seen them in purple and green. The light is surprisingly powerful for such a little light and it really does illuminate the page perfectly. The whole page is lit enough to be able to see and I never really need to spend ages adjusting the light so that the beam hits the right spot.
Although I now have a kindle I still read lots of paperbacks which I pick up in charity shops and the light is ideal for paperbacks. It is a little bit different for hardbacks and for my kindle as the clip doesn't really open wide enough to clip on to these but there are ways around it. With the hardbacks instead of trying to clip it to the thick back just clip it to the last few pages. The same with the kindle my one is too thick for the clip to attach too but it does clip on to place on the kindle cover I have and using this is certainly cheaper than buying one of the lighted covers.
The light is also really lightweight and doesn't cause the book to be dragged down when it is attached. It takes little batteries to work but it lasts for ages at a time and I think I've only needed to change the batteries twice in all the time that I have had it.
It would also make a wonderful gift for anyone who is a big reader as it really is a great little gadget and is ideal for people who travel a lot on trains and buses. I took it on holiday with me and it was nice to be able to sit in my seat and read my book on the landing without having to try and adjust the rubbish cabin light that was above my chair.
Summary: A great gift for book lovers
