Advantages: Bright, effective, great price
Disadvantages: None for me
I've recently given away this fabulous little product although I didn't really want to, and so I thought I would share my thoughts with you guys. I used this little book light for around 2 years. I read every night without fail and struggle to get to sleep without reading. My husband isn't much of a reader however, and for around 5 years of our marriage I read every night with the lamp on even if he wanted to go to sleep! I would go up early enough that if he did want to go to sleep then that was something he had to deal with as I couldn't sleep without reading. He didn't mind too much but on the odd occasion when it spanned on later than usual, he would start huffing and puffing. We were both fed up, me with his sighing and him with the light, so one day when I saw the really tiny book light in WHSmith, I bought it straight away.
I didn't really expect it to be all that great. I thought the light would be dim or it would be fiddly to use and difficult to turn pages but its none of those things, and I have only recently given it away as I have solely been using the kindle app on my iPad to read for the last few months.
I think I paid around £6 at the time, and online at most large retailers the price is now £6.99 but as with anything, cheaper prices do seem available if you are prepared to shop around.
Now obviously this product is small, it's got the word 'tiny' in its name, but it's also pretty stylish too. Coming in a range of colours, there's one to suit every book worm. Colours include pink, purple, green, blue, white, grey and orange. I opted for the pink one: nice and girly and wont be stolen by a man ; )To fit all you have to do is clip it onto the back page of the book and the head angles to which every angle you want. It's an LED light so bright and the batteries are replaceable. I read pretty much every night, although some nights there wasn't a need for the light as I was able to put my lamp on if my husband hadn't come to bed yet. Despite the amount I used it, I didn't ever need to replace the batteries, I found the LED light didn't dim (or not that I noticed - but it may have done so ever so gradually).
The body of the product while plastic, still feels robust and well made. It has even won an award over its short life: the GA Gift of the Year Award '08. Says it all really, for lovers of books it a fantastic little gift. Just before I gave it away I also find out there is an adapter to clip it onto an e-reader so it won't be made redundant. This is a great idea but not needed for me as the Kindle on the iPad is back lit and is bright enough on its own. For anyone struggling with brightness of e readers in the dark though, then this is a product to consider. For the brilliant price it's worth a gamble.
This product is definitely recommended by me. The light is bright but focused on one area so doesn't disturb the hubby. I have on occasion used it to illuminate a scrabble around my drawers for make up remover, etc!
