Advantages: Cosy and a great idea

Disadvantages: Design could do with a few tweaks

The Slanket looks fab, the first time I saw one I thought ooooh me likey! The idea of being all snuggled up and cosy on the sofa with a blanket that I didn't have to fish my arms out of sounded brill.

So what is a Slanket?
A Slanket is a blanket with sleeves. Yeah ok that sounds sort of odd I know, but imagine something that's sort of like a dressing gown that you wear backwards, but reeeeally long and reeeeally wide like a blanket and you've kind of got the image of a slanket in mind. Made of a nice fleecy material they look warm and cosy and feel rather nice.

My Slanket
Slankets come in a variety of colours, pink, ruby wine red, dark blue, purple, brown, bright blue, camouflage colours etc. My husband bought me mine as a gift knowing I wanted it, and for some reason he chose the brown one. Ok it's not a bad brown - a sort of rich chocolaty colour, and one which goes nicely in the lounge as we have creams and browns in there, but if I'd picked for myself, I think I'd have gone for the rich red colour or the lovely vibrant purple.

The Benefits
The great thing about a slanket is that it has arm holes. Snuggle cosily under a blanket, and you'll have to unsnuggle to pick up your mug, press buttons on the remote (unless your husband/wife/kid is playing couch commando with it of course), and so on. With a slanket, you can snuggle cosily under the slanket, but because it has arm holes and sleeves, you can keep your arms warm and snug, but still reach things without having to un-tuck yourself.

The length of these is brilliant, I'm 5'7 and it's more than long enough for me, and I'd have thought that it would be good length wise for anyone up to around 6' tall. The amount of width either side of the arm holes is good too, you get plenty of slanket to tuck around you so you do feel really nice and snuggled on that sofa.

The Disadvantages
The problem with a slanket is that it has arm holes. When you snuggle under a blanket, you're sort of all inside it. When you snuggle up in a slanket it's just not the same because you're arms are outside and you have drafts that get up into the warm bit.

There is another disadvantage actually, and that is that they're really not designed for anyone who's wider than average. I'm not the skinniest of people and I also have boobs that are fairly large too (ok boys you can stop looking fascinated now, they're just boobs!). The bit between the arm holes across the front of the slanket is just that little bit too narrow for me to be completely comfortable across the chest, and I'd have appreciated a few more inches of width there. If you sit still its fine, it's when you reach for something that it feels a bit stretched if you know what I mean.

Cost
The price of these varies hugely and I've got no idea how much my husband paid. The most expensive I've seen them online is over £40, and the cheapest is £12.99 so really truly a huge variation. Amazon sell them for £15 which is a good place to begin I think as they're a pretty reliable seller, and £15-20 does seem to be the average price.

My opinion
Am I thrilled with my slanket? Sadly not. It is very soft and warm and lovely, but because of the width of the chest area not being quite wide enough for comfort when I have both arms through the holes, I do have a tendency to just stick one arm out mostly and kind of tuck the other sleeve inside itself so there are no drafts. Would I recommend these then? Well that depends. If you're like me and a little larger in the chest area than some, then no I wouldn't. For everyone else, yes, get yourself one and snuggle under they're very cosy.

Summary: A great idea for a new way to snuggle under, but maybe the design isn't quite there.
