Ditch the Blanket, Get a Slanket
Member Name: CrazyEgg
Advantages: Huge, thick, warm and cosy
Disadvantages: Trip hazard
As I type this I am covered up and cosy in my slanket. From toes to chin I am covered in a thick fleecey blanket with sleeves, and just my hands are sticking out. The fabric is piled up around my feet, making my toes extra toasty. When I finish typing I will shake the sleeves down and cover my hands so that they too can be cosy. The size and warmth of this item make it great, the sleeves are the icing on the cake.
The slanket measures 152.4cm (width) x 241.3cm (height) which means that even if you are over 6 foot tall, you would still be able to be covered head to toe by the slanket and have room to spare. I am 5' 4" so there is a lot of spare fabric here. It could pose something of a tripping hazard, and if you are just starting out in the venture of slanket-wearing then you should take care, and consider removing or stepping out of the slanket in order to go and get a cuppa or tasty snack. Once you become more proficient with slanket wearing, you can wear it whilst on such manoeuvres. My technique is to simply gather the material from around my feet and drape it over one arm.
A downside of the slanket is that if you lean forward, as I am now, your back may become chilly. I would not want you to think I am indulging in nude slanket-wearing, it's just my t-shirt is a little thin.
The slanket takes up a lot of room in the washing machine, but it does go in. As it requires a cold wash on a gentle cycle you may wish to give it the honour of a wash on its own. My preference is to wait until both of my slankets need cleaning. I have two. And a washing machine with large load capacity. The slankets can be tumble dried on low, and the label tells you not to iron. Bliss.
Slankets are difficult to fold neatly, and make the room look permanently untidy if they are left lying round when not in use. To that end I have positioned a large wicker basket at one end of the sofa, and the slankets are housed within it. They make occasional outings during the summer months, so are never totally packed away. However, if you wanted to pack them away, it would be a good idea to keep the original packaging which is a thick, clear plastic zip-up bag.
A great product all year round, but especially good on chilly winter evenings.
Summary: Fantastic snuggly blanket with sleeves
