Nice and cosy but no dressing gown replacement!

Advantages: Quite cheap, tumble drys, nice gift idea
Disadvantages: Cannot move around in it e.g. to get up and put the kettle on
I got a slanket a few years ago for xmas. They come in a range of colours - mine is green to match the colour scheme of my house! The fabric is very similar to a fleecy blanket (100% polyester).
You can tumble dry it which is useful as it is quite large, though these types of fabrics do dry very quickly so having a tumble dryer is by no means essential.
It is essentially like a long dressing gown that you wear backwards. It does allow you to keep your arms warm while reading a book or changing channel while sat on the sofa, whereas with a blanket you would have to take your arms out of the blanket to do those things. However, wearing a dressing gown with a blanket of your knee does have the same effect. Also, there is no practical way to get up and go to the loo/make a cup of tea with a slanket (well I've not mastered the art anyway) however this is far more practical in a dressing gown.
Mine has been used on and off over the last few years, obviously more in winter months but lately the slanket novelty has worn off and I just tend to throw it over me and use it as a normal blanket. Mine is also developing a hole which is a shame but doesn't really impair the use of the product.
It is a nice christmassy gift for those who like to keep warm and I've seen them in stores like The Works for a reasonable price, but in my mind I'm still loyal to the old fashioned dressing gown.
Summary: A nice idea but probably solving a problem that doesn't exist
