Harry's gone a little Top Gear mad as of late, so when it came to finding birthday presents for him, a lot of things ended up being related to his favourite show. Since he's started nursery, he's had lots of fun at lunch club so when his Aunt and Uncle suggested getting him a Top Gear lunchbox for his birthday, I thought it was a great idea, and he's had plenty of use for it in the month since his birthday, and he's very proud to take it along to nursery as well.
The lunchbox is produced by a company called DNC who apparently make lots of housewares, and this item is produced on behalf of BBC Top Gear, so again you are paying because it is a licensed product, as you do with all such merchandise with a character on it. Luckily, this isn't as costly as some children's toys that are ludicriously priced due to a sticker on them, and this one is a great item because it's regularly used and therefore you don't mind paying a bit extra.
It is a nice sized lunch box, and it measures the same as a couple of others Harry has too so it's a pretty standard size I think. It is zipped on 3 of the sides so that the lid lifts fully away leaving plenty of room for you to put your sandwiches and whatever else you would like. It is white plastic inside which is great because it is wipe clean, and Harry's still looks brand new even after a few weeks usage which is great. The zip is also great quality, it moves nicely along the zipper track and doesn't seem a cheap zip which is good as there's nothing worse than a zip breaking!
The lunch bag also features a carry handle which is perfect for the younger users of this product. It's a padded black handle, nothing fancy but it does the job it is supposed to do which is good enough for me. There's also space to write your details on the underside on a little card that then slots into a plastic holder, again handy for use in a classroom so you know you will always get their lunch bag back at the end of the day.
Of course the best bit about this bag is the fab picture on the front. It shows The Stig, who is the show's anonymous racing driver who test drives all the big powerful cars in order to get the best performance possible out of him. He's become quite the cult figure, and you'll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't at least know who The Stig is, if not what he does. The image is great quality, it's almost printed into the fabric of the bag so I can't see how it will get too damaged, but of course it is mainly white which might get stained if you don't look after it. The splash of lime green adds a bit of colour to it, and the famous Top Gear logo is situated in the top right of the front.
If you have a child or grown up (lol) that is into Top Gear, then this lunch bag might make a great present for them. It retails at around £7.99 which I think is very good value for a well made product that should hopefully be used plenty of times before it wears out or has to make way for the next favourite character! The black fabric shouldn't show signs of wear and tear as is always the case with young kids, and Harry's proud face as he carries his bag makes it worth every penny. A fabulous product at a great price, well worth it.
