Working as a first and second fix carpenter, this really is an essential piece of kit. Especially if your doing a lot of price work.
The idea of this is, equipped with a router you can quickly hang doors.
It works by having adjustable slots along the length which have industry standard hinge positions. 1 top and bottom, one in middle and a 4th near the top (usaully for commercial buildings where heavy fire doors are used).
These slots are adjustable for each different type of hinge and once set up its possible to hang a door in around 10 minutes. though this is rarely the case as the doors often need to be planed/trimmed to accomodate the door lining.
It is clamped to your door with a bradawl and metal plate at top (2mm thick to give you head clearance). Once routered out remove and fix it to the door lining and router this out. This gives a perfect finish as when you go to hang the door to the lining, the hinge positions are perfectly aligned.
My personal best is 19 doors in a day (without fitting locks and handles) and at £25 a door just to swing it, it more than makes up for the initial cost at around £200. Though there are different variations which can be bought cheaper second hand. A range of spares is also available from the Trend website at reasonable prices.
Ive heard of people hanging 30-40 doors in a day with these.
Dont worry if you dont own a trend router, you can buy base plates which are available for most makes and models. But you only really need a 16mm guide bush with a 10mm clearance ( else you router the jig like I did first time!!)
