Umbra Aquala Bathtub Caddy
When we moved home early last year my best friend bought me this fantastic Umbra Aquala bathtub caddy as a moving in present. When I initially unwrapped it, it took me a moment to realise what it was and then when I did, I still had my reservations about it. I very clearly remember my Gran having something similar at the end of her bath that never moved for years on end. I wasn't sure if this gift would see much light of the day. However, that thought was pretty much gone instantly when this was unwrapped and taken out of its box, unlike the clunky and old fashioned idea I had in my head this bath tub caddy looks rather sleek, stylish and modern.
The caddy itself is made out of a lacquered and stained wood with steel arms that fit over the bath tubs side holding it firmly in place. It is a rather practical design but it looks modern and personally I think that it is a great idea, providing a bit of extra storage and a great book or glass rest when you are soaking in the bath. There is also a pre cut out section that fits a wine glass bottom securely, which means that you don't have to worry about it just tipping over. If anything this has encouraged me to drink a glass of cold white wine while reading my book happily in the bath. My hubby has noted that since the weather has gotten colder that I have disappeared for at least a good hour at a time into the bathroom so I have gotten quite a lot of use from this bathtub caddy so far.
It does also have a steel book bar that lies flush to the wood when not in use but you just push it up and into position when and if you want to use it. Personally, I don't think this is of much use. I can see what they were trying to do, but I don't tend to read many hardbacks and paperbacks just usually won't stay open by themselves when rested in a slanted standing position. This is the only feature of this bathtub caddy that I don't use. It also has a cut out for soap, but I tend to use that round space if I want to light a scented candle while relaxing in the bath.
I received this as a gift, so I am not quite sure what my friend paid for it. However, having looked around online I found that Amazon are currently selling these for £36.80. Although this might be a pricey purchase I have had mine for just under a year and I have had a lot of use from it. During that time it has kept in relatively pristine condition, I believe that this is one product that will last and last and grace my bathroom with its presence for years to come.
If I could give this a higher rating then I would but it really does deserve full marks. Therefore, it gets a full five out of five stars from me.
I actually own quite a few Umbra photo frames and I have found them to be a reliable brand that delivers functionality with a quirky and often stylish and mostly always attractive design. I would happily recommend this bathtub caddy to anyone as a stylish and practical bath room item.
