Wilko Halloween Treat Bucket
Advantages: Well made, strong, cheap
For my daughters first birthday back at the start of November 2010 I threw her a Halloween party to celebrate. I bought most of the decorations from my local Wilkinson to transform our home into a haunted house, I spotted this bucket and I thought it would be perfect.
I can't remember how much I paid exactly for the bucket but it wasn't a lot, maybe around the 50p to 75p mark. There were lots in stock and are often reduced after the Halloween period if you want to pick it up dirt cheap.
The bucket is quite a nice size at around 17 centimetres wide and 15cm deep. It is circular in shape and is coloured mainly in orange with a black handle and black facial features. The main body of the bucket is made from quite a thin plastic, although it's thin it doesn't compromise on how strong it really is. There are ridges going down the outside all of the way around the bucket, I think this is to make it a little more pumpkin like rather than just being plain.
I first used the bucket for my daughters first birthday party. It looked great in the middle of the table and held a huge amount of sweets. I had to fill the bottom of the bucket with tissue paper as I didn't have enough sweets to fill it and it did look quite bad only having the bottom half of the bucket full of sweets. In the subsequent years we've actually used the bucket for trick or treating. I don't like the whole idea of knocking on random peoples doors basically asking for sweets from strangers, it just seems a bit weird, especially with how times have changed recently so I usually take my daughter around family and friends houses dressed up. She was very almost two when she first took the bucket out and could hold it quite well, the only problem she had was that it dragged along the floor if she didn't hold it up. We used the bucket again this year for her second trick or treating year.
The bucket poses excellent value for money, we have used ours three years in a row now and it's still in excellent condition, it has a few scuffs on the bottom but these are just cosmetic and you can't really notice them. At less than a pound I'd definitely recommend them as they can be used year after year. We will be getting ours back out again next October.
