To try and improve the efficiency of my oven I purchased a new seal from espares.co.uk for around £13. I brought a seal specific to my oven so as to get the best fit. The seal is a genuine spare made by Electrolux. I matched the serial number of my oven up with one for this part on the web site so as to get the correct part.
When the seal arrived I was very pleased with it. The seal is basically a long piece of rubber that fits around all four sides of where my oven door closes on the oven.
My original seal had become brittle and was also torn along one edge which was allowing heat to escape from the oven which meant the oven was not working efficiently.
To fit the new seal I removed four screws from the front of the oven and a panel that framed the oven and lifted it off. The old seal was fitted to this panel. I made sure I had a good look at the way the old seal was fitted before removing it.
After removing the old seal I gave the panel a good wipe over to remove any dirt and grease so as the new seal made a good fit. I then proceeded to attach my new seal in the identical way to the previous one. The seal went on a lot easier than I expected and was fitted in a very short amount of time.
Once I was satisfied with the fit I reattached the panel with the new seal on to the oven. The seal looks like new and makes a good firm connection when the oven door is closed. I am now satisfied that no heat is escaping from the oven when I cook which makes the oven that little more energy efficient as it cooks more evenly and takes less time to pre heat and cook.
I only wish I had replaced the seal sooner as it was much cheaper and quicker to do than I thought it would be.
