Asda Bathroom Cleaner
by Chippytarka
One of the things I regularly buy in regards to cleaning products is a bathroom cleaner. Two showers for me and baths for two children per day means that that the bath really needs a good clean to keep it in good shape. I normally go for branded bathroom cleaner, only because I have used specific ones before and they have worked. On this ... occasion I bought this one, costing £1.25 on its own or 2 for £1.50 from a local Asda store.
Why did I buy this?
Pocket was empty, credit card crying with being used countless of times topping up general grocery shopping every few days. I needed to buy two cleaning products that could be bought together for £1.50, so thought it would be a good opportunity to save some pennies and hopefully find a decent working product.
How is it packaged?
Not the usual bright coloured bottle or labelling I am used to, such as my Mr Muscle, but this product comes in a standard plastic bottle, white in colour and with a black trigger type spray dispenser at the top. 500ml in size. Label on the front has the ' Asda Chosen by you ' logo at the top. Just underneath its states product ' kills 99.9% bacteria '. Directly beneath it tells you what the product is in bold lettering ' Bathroom Cleaner ' and the fact it's a hard working product.
On the back it tells you how to use, what to use on, ingredients, general warnings and cautions. Also includes company contact details.
Ingredients
Asda Bathroom Cleaner contains amongst other ingredients: Less than 5% Cationic Surfactants, Non-Ionic Surfactants , Also contains: Disinfectant, Chloromethylisothiazolinone (and) Methylisothiazolinone, Benzisothiazolinone (and) Methylisothiazolinone, Perfume, Amyl Cinnamal .
How to use
Spray sparingly from a distance about 15-20cm away from area. Wipe with a clean cloth or sponge. For stubborn dirt leave on for 30 seconds before wiping away. Suitable for use on most hard surfaces. Kills E coli, Pseudomonas, MRSA and Enterococcus.
Where to use
You can use product on surfaces such as baths, sinks, toilet seats, tiles, taps, bathroom surfaces.
How does it perform/What do I think?
To dispense the product, I felt it was very easy. Pressing down the trigger area wasn't hard and didn't require too much effort. The liquid came out completely clear. I felt the stream of product that came out was a decent amount, quite direct and decent amount of power and force behind it. I did notice if I sprayed to close( I used this product on my bath ) the liquid became alittle more foam like.
In regards to fragrance at first I was disappointed as I didn't think there was a fragrance. But giving around 30 seconds I did notice there was a smell, it was just very subtle. It was floral but very sweet. I actually really liked the fragrance and was surprised, as it reminded more of a scent you would expect from a body/skincare product rather than a household cleaner. I found the more product I used ( probably way too much ) the more the scent was there. I personally would have liked the fragrance to have stood out much more.
Considering how much my bath gets used on a daily basic it generally doesn't get caked on dirt, not very grimy, despite having two young children, so I didn't feel as if I had to do any major scrubbing or wiping with this product. Easy to use and wipe away, bath looked clean and reasonably fresh. I felt overall it did a good job.
Would I buy again? In regards to price and performance possibly. Would have liked more fragrance and not too sure whether this product would be hard working enough on really dirty stubborn bathroom areas hence my score. So great for cleaning slightly dirty bathroom surfaces, cant comment on major filth or grime. Read the complete review |

Persil Seasonal Warm Spice
by PerfectPeaches
Bit of a late review to be writing about a seasonal product but I have been so incredibly busy since the start of the year I haven't been reviewing much whatsoever! If you have read a few of my other reviews you will see that I am colour OCD so having a kitchen with all red accessories means that even my washing liquid has to be red and ... therefore welcome in Persil Warm Spice!
Now I was normally a Fairy washing up liquid kinda girl as they also have a red variety but in the run up to the festive period I noticed on the shelves of my local supermarket the Persil Warm Spice and obviously bright red in colour. It is (and was) a limited edition purely for the festive period of 2012 (no doubt you may be able to find a bottle at your local discount store). Persil are of course known for their household cleaning products so picking up a bottle for £1 I had no doubt that this would be decent to use.
The washing up liquid comes in a transparent, shaped plastic bottle with a clear flip top lid. On the front there is the Persil logo together with an image of an orange and cloves as well as images of snowflakes, all very festive! On the back of the bottle again there is another label giving information about the product such as ingredients, warnings etc - all the usual information one would expect on a bottle of washing up.
The washing up liquid itself is a lovely vibrant red and is transparent to look at. It is meant to have warming notes made up of ground cinnamon, cloves and of course citrus. Now, for me I can detect the cloves straight away and I have to admit the fragrance does give a festive feel to it which is really nice. It is fruity but with a touch of spice which I love. The liquid is of a decent consistency whereby you don't have to use loads to get a mountain of bubbles, a little goes a long way.
To use, you only need to use a small amount for an average bowl of washing up - obviously the more you have to wash the more you will have to use. However, I do find as I said above it goes a long way and I find just a tiny amount produces soft, white bubbles. It disperses in the water immediately upon contact and leaves the water lovely and soft should you not use washing up gloves.
I have used the washing up liquid on a wide variety of items such as a dish used for a cottage pie to just a mug used for a cup of tea and the results always tend to be the same. For dishes used in cooking I do find they need a bit of a soak making it easier for the more dried on food stuffs to be removed but the washing up liquid teamed with a good cloth/sponge manages to remove it easily. Needless to say, on items that are hardly marked or dirty the washing up liquid has no problems.
Now some washing up liquids I have found (generally the cheaper buys) cannot cut through grease or oil and although they can get the food stuffs removed they leave a smeared residue from the grease. It was with my great delight that Persil Warm Spice manages to eradicate any trace of grease/oil from any pan which makes life that little bit easier! If properly rinsed it doesn't leave a residue behind on any item which has been in contact with the washing up liquid.
Overall, for £1.00 for a 500ml bottle you can't go wrong. It provides a leave festive fragrance whilst washing up (it doesn't transfer to the pots/pans etc) and can easily remove dried on food and grease. I really don't have any complaints whatsoever and would recommend if they re-release it this coming Christmas. 5 stars from me.

Harpic White & Shine Bleach
by k2705
I love the smell of bleach and before I had Jayden I always used bleach cleaners, I blame my mum she was the same with bleach, however I now am more careful tending to prefer Dettol type cleaners for work surfaces etc but I do like a bleach cleaner for the toilet so I decided to try Harpic White & Shine.
Harpic White ... & Shine is sold in a white plastic bottle which is in keeping with this type of product. The bottle has a curved neck so the product can be directed up under the rim.
The front of the bottle shows the Harpic logo in bright red, below this it has White & Shine written in white and blue letters. The front of the bottle also informs the customer that the product contains baking soda for ultimate shine and will kill all germs and viruses.
The back of the bottle gives all the information you would expect to find on a product like this such as ingredients, directions for use and warnings. All of these are written in black making them easy to read on the white bottle should you wish to.
The bottle naturally has a safety cap which needs to be squeezed and twisted, I have no problems with this but it may present some difficulties for those with limited hand movement.
Harpic White & Shine smells just like bleach and is white in colour a bit like a watery toothpaste. Its the same consistency as regular bleach and will cling to the bowl.
To use the product you just need to aim the opening of the bottle under the toilet rim and squeeze the Harpic all around the bowl so its coated, leave for 15minets then brush and flush, personally I never use a toilet brush I cant bear them but I do use sponges with a rough scouring side on them then throw them away.
I followed the instructions which to be honest are really just common sense and I was very impressed with the results. My toilet bowl was really sparkling white, it looked and smelt really clean and fresh. In my opinion I think baking soda does make a difference to how the toilet looks and as its also killing all germs its a good product all round.
I've now used my bottle of white & shine up and since bought another, I got mine from my local Tesco where a 750ml bottle is currently half price for £1.00.
If you use bleach then I would certainly recommend trying Harpic White & Shine, it leaves the toilet looking and smelling really fresh and gleaming white. Read the complete review |
