Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner
by hopey123
I was good today and done some spring cleaning which included the dreaded cleaning of the oven. I'd not done it for a year dispute buying some Mr Muscle oven cleaner months ago ready to do it something more important always needed doing lol.
Mr Muscle has a slogan of it loves the jobs you hate. More like it makes the jobs you ... hate easier by far.
For a 300ml can of this you are looking at paying £3- £4.00 depending on what offers are available in store.
This spray allows you to use less elbow grease and still end up with a sparkling oven.
To use make sure the kitchen is very well ventilated, I'm lucky that the back door is in our kitchen so I had that open and the windows too. Don some gloves as the can advises don't have to marigolds but any type to protect your hands. Next you shake the can well then spray into the oven evenly and shut the door on it. Now the fumes from this are very strong and powerful and found myself having to stand by back door for fresh air several times during the cleaning of oven. You need to leave it approximately 20 minutes and no more then 30 minutes. I found once I'd sprayed inside main oven and top oven then cleaned the outside and top plates this was enough time for Mr Muscle to have worked. When I opened the door being exposed to fumes again I simply got a damp cloth and wiped away the remainder of the spray. In doing so all the burnt food and marks came away leaving the oven near perfect. I had one patch that still didn't want to move so I sprayed it again and went back to it 5 minutes later and it was fine. I took the shelves out and used a brillo pad to finish them off as the spray dropped off them.
With this can you never need make oven cleaning such a chore again. It really does what it says on the can and is well worth the money it costs.
My only niggle about this product is the getting a free high on the fumes which are powerful.
The amount I used from this can isn't a huge amount so I feel that I'd get to use it another two or three times before it runs out easily. Read the complete review |

Astonish Mould and Mildew remover
by Elaineee
A few weeks ago in Home Bargains I bought a spray bottle of mould and mildew remover. There was a choice of two both 99p but as I've had stuff before from one of the brands and it's generally rubbish, I decided to get Astonish. I wasn't really hopeful but thought I'd try it.
I have used these products in the past but most of ... the time I wash out an empty spray bottle then fill with ordinary household bleach and water which is okay but stinks.
The above picture is out dated the bottle is now bright green with a dark blue spray top. It's a good size for 99p- 750ml. It says it has 'Powerful Action, Kills & Removes Mould and Bacteria and prevents return'. It contains less than 5% Anionic surficants, Sodium Hydroxide and 2.25g Chlorine- based bleach agents- so bleach basically and as such has the same precautions and says it will turn fabrics and some things white- upto now I haven't had an incident even though I have accidently sprayed things, they don't appear to bleach so I dunno but it wouldn't be a good idea to put it to the test......
I hate using bleach and try to avoid it but it's a necessary evil for this job, sometimes I just use detergent and water but this just moves the mould around without killing it. I need a mildew remover because living in a cottage we get a lot of condensation resulting in black mould patches mainly on the walls especially during the winter. Aesthetically it looks horrible but mainly it's the health risks of breathing in mould spores I'm mithered about. I know bleach isn't good but it does get washed away.
The bottle doesn't really say if it's suitable for paintwork only that it's not suitable for 'damaged' paintwork but it's paintwork I use it for and have had no problems doing so, the paint colour hasn't faded or anything. There is a list of suitable surfaces for example upvc window frames, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles and concrete. There are plenty of surfaces that aren't suitable- damaged paintwork, rubber, vinyl, metals, chromes, varnished wood, damaged enamel and unglazed tiles.
Directions are to spray the area, leave for 3-4 mins then wipe off with a damp cloth and water. In my experience 3-4 mins isn't long enough.
I've been around the house with it this morning for this review. Turning the nozzle to on I set off. The walls have a few unslightly patches so I've started with them. The nozzle gives a wide fine spray that covers quite a good area and saturates the wall quickly. The light mouldy areas disappear quickly, heavier areas take time, infact after half an hour I've applied some more which has pretty much tackled it. You can see it working as it drips down, it bleaches streaks in the mould that hasn't be sprayed yet. It absolutely stinks of bleach same as when I use 'bleach' so smell wise I'm disappointed but on the plus side at least being able to smell means people know it's there if you see what I mean. Wiping it off is easy enough, giving a wipe down takes the rest of any lingering black marks off too. It works well on the windows and window frames, again these are painted and I have so far never had a problem using these products here, but still it would be wise to be cautious.
So for mildewy and mouldy walls it works pretty well, same as the dearer brand and better than my 'homemade' bleach and water solution. But does stink and takes longer to work than stated. Also it claims to stop mould coming back, but if that was true I wouldn't be going around the house again a few weeks later spraying everywhere, but it does prevent regrowth better than when I just wipe it off with detergent.
Now for the bathroom- not so good. In here it works great on the walls but not so good on tiles and grout, it doesn't touch the mould on the sealant around the bath and sink. I have in the past ruined plugholes with bleach and mildew removers so am careful to rinse any bleach product away as soon as it runs off the tiles into the bath (this brand would probably result in the same damage- but I'm not going to test it for you). Again this morning I've squirted some on the tile grout and there's only a tiny difference even with a scrub off. I find cream cleaners better for this job. I don't bother wasting it on the loo area as I use toilet cleaner for that and neat value bleach if necessary which is cheaper than this stuff (this is what I use when mixing my own- so it's then a lot cheaper).
In conclusion I'm pleased with the results from this cheaper alternative to the well known brand, it is very similar but it does smell a bit stronger. It's much better than other cheap ones I've used. I will be using and buying it again.
I'll give it 4 stars because although it's very effective on walls, it's not good on tile grout or sealant for me anyway. The smell is pretty powerful too. Read the complete review |

Mr Muscle Bathroom & Toilet Cleaner
by Chippytarka
Im not completely loyal to a partcular brand when it comes to cleaning products.I normally go with whats on offer at the time, but there are afew that I tend to gravitate to when it comes to products to clean my bathroom and toilet, and this is one of them. When its on offer in the supermarket, or I have bought it from a discount store ... such as Quality Save, B&M, i normally can pick it up for a £1.00 which I did on this occasion, for a 500ml bottle.
What is this product?
Its a cleaning product, in the form of a spray, designed for the bathroom and toilet areas. Its supposed to have 5 different actions to it:
1. Removes soap scum and hard to shift grime.
2. Kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on hard surfaces.
3. Leaves a fragrance in the area cleaned.
4. Leaves surface shiny.
5. Quick and easy to use.
How is it packaged?
The look of this is different to the picture here on Dooyoo, but the one I have come sin an orange 500ml bottle. The label on the front has a picture of a bathroom suite on it and above ' Mr Muscle Bathroom & Toliet 5 in 1 ' wrtten on it. Above that is the Mr Muscle man (not hunky enough for my liking! ) and it also mentions the 5 different aspects of cleaning the product does.
On the back, it shows the ingredients, warnings, where you can use product and how, what the product does and company contact details.
The bottle has a trigger spray applicator to for ease of use that can be turned on and off by turning the end of the spray.
How do you use?
Spray on surface and wipe clean. If you want to kill bacteria and viruses spray on surface and leave for 15 minutes then wipe clean.
Warnings
Avoid prolonged contact with certain materials such as wood. Keep out of the reach of children.Avoid contact with eyes. Do not breathe spray.
Ingredients
Contains less than 5%non ionic surfactants. Also contains disinfectant, perfume, limonene.
So what do I think of this product?
Its very easy to use.Just spray on the surface and go.The thing that strikes me the most is the amazing citrus smell that you get when you use the product. Its zingy, fresh and leaves the whole bathroom smelling sweetly for a good while once used.It makes a pleasant change to smell a product for my bathroom that smells of orange rather than lemon or bog standard harsh bleach type fragrance.
The product cleans very well. To be honest, the bath doesnt really get that dirty ( this is what i use the product on rather then the toilet or basin ), so I dont feel I have to work hard to get any dirt off. I wouldnt quite say it makes my bath ' shine ' as suggested on the product, as most baths will anyway because of what its made out of, but overall Im pleased with its performance, love the smell and feel that considering I have to use it more than once a day ( and I am very generous with how much I use ), it last quite some time.
Would I buy again?Yes I would. The smell has enticed me more than anything else.It does what it says on the bottle. Read the complete review |
