Sainsbury's Toilet Limescale Remover
by alyson29 In a bid to reduce the cost of the ever increasing weekly shopping bill, several months ago I decided to choose a cheaper priced toilet cleaner, namely Sainsbury's Toilet Limescale Remover and this review discusses my experience with using it. I cannot admit to this product standing out to me from the supermarket shelf as its ... appearance is similar to that of all the other brands and it was the price that was attractive to me. We are provided with 500 ml of product contained within a fairly sturdy vivid blue coloured plastic container with a bright red lid. Whilst the majority of brands claim to remove limescale I was not convinced with Sainsbury's claim that it will remove 100% as generally, the cheaper brands promise to only help prevent as opposed to remove. The reverse of the bottle contains a small amount of Braille together with the usual do's and don'ts with using a product of this nature. I struggled to remove the cap, which is obviously a good thing where children are concerned and it was necessary to tightly squeeze at the grip sections and to turn anticlockwise. The bottle is angled to enable the bowl and rim to be effectively covered with the vivid blue liquid, which was a little thinner in consistency than I had hoped. It was the awful aroma that I found extremely unfavourable, as it offered a public toilet smell, which made me feel that my bathroom was unclean. Thankfully, the offensive aroma subsided within a few minutes of application and I waited the allotted time of a few hours before flushing away. Another grumble I had was that the dispensing section leaked very slightly and as a result, it was necessary for me to wipe the bottle with a few pieces of toilet paper directly after every use. As the toilets in our home are cleaned on a regular basis they are always clean, but they sometimes show small signs of a limescale build up and the more expensive cleaners that I've used are able to tackle this problem with great ease. However, I found that this Sainsbury's product was unable to meet its claims and I cannot agree that it removes 100% of limescale. As a result, I found myself using more than directed, so that I could use the bottle quickly and replaced it with my normal products, which in addition to their high quality cleaning products also deliver a clean and fresh smell to my bathrooms. I was bitterly disappointed with this toilet cleaner, as it seemed nothing more than a runny blue liquid, which lacked any cleaning abilities despite the fact that it contains hydrochloric acid. For the reasons discussed above, I cannot recommend this toilet cleaner and as a result, I will not be making a further purchase and will be returning to my usual more expensive brands. Unfortunately, Sainsbury's have not displayed the recycling symbol, so I'm of the opinion that the empty bottle needs to be disposed of with normal household waste. For some strange reason, this product is not listed on Sainsbury's website although it is available in store for 67p for a 500 ml bottle. I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading. Harpic 100% Limescale Remover
by MEL0611 I guess I have never really thought to much about what toilet cleaner I buy, as long as it kills germs and bacteria and doesn't smell to horrid then I am happy, I guess the price plays a part for me, I am always after a bargain so nothing to pricey for me. I say I had never really thought about it until recently when I noticed a small ... build up of lime scale around the top of my toilet. I tried to remove it with the toilet brush but no such luck so when I was next in town I had a look to see what may be able to help me and I happened to spot a bottle of the Harpic 100% Lime scale remover and after reading the details on the back of the bottle where the detail is found I decided to make a purchase. Here are my thoughts. The Harpic product cost me just £1.00, I happened to be in Poundland so I guess it wasn't going to cost me anymore than that! I paid £1.00 and this was for a 750ml bottle which I thought was good value. I have seen the product in a number of different stores; it is also priced around the £1.00 mark to £1.29 so it is not a bad price no matter where you buy it from. Readily available in Supermarkets and high street shops like Wilkinson's and B and M to name a couple, you will have no problem in getting hold of some. The bottle comes made in plastic and is a blue colour with some red and white writing. On the front of the bottle is the name of the brand and the product as well as that it is a 100% lime scale remover, a promise I hoped it would keep! We are also told that it dissolves lime scale better than bleach and that it kills all germs. On the reverse of the bottle are ingredient listings and directions for use. When you go to use the product, there is a tight red cap that needs to be removed first; you will see that there is a small nozzle that needs to be pointed at the affected area and then you gently squeeze on the bottle to get the liquid out. You will see that it has a thick consistency but it is really smooth. There was not too much of a fragrance to this so I was pleased, there was the hint of a chemical but then I guess you know it is doing its job then. The colour of the liquid is blue so against my white toilet I could see where I had been, I was able to direct the bottle with some precision and get the liquid pretty much all over the lime scale. I then left the product for a few minutes and then flushed it away, this created a lot of bubbles in the toilet but the main thing for me to see there was a real noticeable difference in the lime scale, most of it had gone and I really had to look hard to spot where it was left, I then repeated the process a day later and sure enough the remaining lime scale had gone, I was certainly impressed! I think part of this was helped as I caught the build up of the lime scale quite quickly; I am not sure what it would be like if it was on older lime scale. In summary, I am more than impressed and happy to recommend this one 5 out of 5 from me Thank you for reading Read the complete review |

Domestos Zero Limescale
by mel2989 After 8 months of coping with with a toilet bowl that looked like it had been used by 100 people and never been flushed, I decided to invest in a powerful limescale remover. While shopping at asda last week I picked up a bottle of Domestos zero limescale for a promo price of £1. I immediately squeezed a heap of it down the toilet and ... let it sit for 30 mins then flushed. I was absolutely amazed at the results, it had removed about 40% of the limescale and I was able to see some yellow porcelin at the bottom of my newly clean toilet (yes you heard right I have a oh so attractive yellow bathroom suite). I have since continued to use it and my toilet is almost clear apart from small patches of limescale which are proving tough to remove. The product does require you to use a little elbow grease to scrub it clean but I dont mind considering how shocking the toilet was before. Im now hoping that using this product at bit more and scrubing hard will remove the rest of the limescale. One thing is for certain this does exactly what is says on the tin and I will recommend this product to anyone it is super. Read the complete review |
