Method Cleaning Products
by Hoggle-DR1749 As a cleaner for quite a variety of different clients, sometimes using the same all-round cleaning products like the Aldi ones (see my Pick and Mix review) aren't the best way to adhere to a client's needs- although Aldi's Power Force cleaning products are my preferred choice, some of my clients suffer from various ailments that don't ... always allow me to use chemical cleaning products. Even without this knowledge though, Method products are still a very close second in my preferred cleaning products list. The only reason i still prefer Power Force is because of the differences in price. For example, The Method Bathroom and shower cleaner can cost £4.99, whereas the Power Force Bathroom cleaner only costs 99p. So what is Method? Method are a cleaning company that focus primarily on being green and good for the environment. As a result they try to make sure their products are free of harsh chemicals and even the packaging is completely recyclable, but still their products produce good results. As a result of this my clients with say severe asthma or very sensitive skin can enjoy quality cleaning without setting off their ailments. Each product that i use has a bit about the company and what they're about, but if you'd like to learn more about the company and their products before you buy the product the website is: www.methodhome.com or you can give them a ring on 020 7788 7904. Each product is certified cruelty free, and my favourite quote on the product is "designed and sourced responsibly from beginning to end to beginning again. That's good karma." Method provide a variety of cleaning products that cover pretty much the entirety of your home cleaning needs. Most often i use the glass cleaner, shower and bathroom cleaners, kitchen cleaners, wood polish and the floor cleaner. Some of the things i have noticed about these products are that the bathroom/shower/glass cleaners all tend to smell of mint, the kitchen of citrus/oranges, and the wooden products of almonds- but all subtly so. Along with this the products tend to work better if you leave them for a bit before wiping them off, unlike the Power Force ones where you can pretty much wipe as you go. Quite often i have a tight schedule so you'd be surprised as to how much of a difference this makes when cleaning, but if you have the extra time to spare it's well worth it to gain an eco-friendly but stunning clean. All the products are packaged in very simple yet distinctive and stylish packaging, most often with trigger sprays or sports cap tops. Each product performs exceedingly well on their specific areas, and if you know your stuff, you can use the same product on other areas of the house to save you a bit of money. Glass Cleaner: Has a clear plastic packaging complete with spray nozzle that allows you to clearly see the blue formula, though when sprayed the product appears on the glass as clear. Works well on windows, conservatory doors, shower units and on any glass furniture you may have. Also works exceedingly well on mirrors. This product has a fresh minty smell that doesn't really hit until you are wiping the product down. Most often i spray a generous amount over the glass surface, leave it for 3-5 minutes, then use a damp jay cloth to first wipe off the product, then i buffer the glass up with either a dry jay cloth or some kitchen towels. The result is shiny, clean glass that leaves no marks or streaks, and no harsh smells that you can get with some other glass cleaning products. (Pro tip- if you are short on cash, using old newspaper pages to wipe off this product also produces excellent results if you don't mind putting in a little extra elbow work.) Shower and bathroom cleaner: Has pale blue opaque plastic packaging with a spray nozzle. When sprays the formula appears transparent. Works well on any ceramic surface, including sinks, toilet cisterns, bath tubs, shower units, wall and floor tiles (if you're willing to get on your hands and knees.) Like the glass cleaner has a very subtle minty smell that reminds one almost of peppermint tea or watered down chewing gum as i like to refer to it. Again, i spray a generous amount over the surface, leave for three to five minutes, wipe the product down first with a damp cloth, then often i buffer it all up with a small hand towel. If you have a rather large bathroom and want to really deep clean your tiles i would suggest spraying this product over 8-10 tiles at a time, leave them for five minutes before wiping them down then spraying the next 8-10. The result is fantastic and well worth taking your time over- though unfortunately doesn't work very well on grouting issues- for those i'd recommend either Dettol mould and mildew remover or Grot buster. Kitchen Cleaner: Comes in clear plastic packaging that allows you to see the translucent orange formula it holds. Smells subtly of oranges and really wakes you up. Works well on all kitchen surfaces and in the oven, fridge and microwaves. This is the only product i've noticed actually leaves a subtle scent behind, but also works exceedingly well on things like grease and old food stains leaving clean, almost gleaming surfaces. Also works well on tough bathroom stains, but i wouldn't use this on tough glass stains as it can leave the glass quite streaky. Wood Polish: Comes in an opaque brown bottle but interestingly enough also has a spray nozzle- the only polish i've ever used to do so. Works exceedingly well on any wooden surface leaving behind a subtle scent of almonds. Unlike most polishes i've used though is rubbish at polishing things like mirrors- i tried it on one small hanging mirror and it took me 15 minutes to get it back off again. This is also probably the only Method product i don't leave for a bit before wiping off for it gives the same excellent results on wooden surfaces either way. Floor(all purpose) cleaner: Comes in a clear plastic bottle with a translucent yellow formula that also smells rather subtly of citrus. Also different from the other Method products as it has a sports cap nozzle. This product can be used neat because of this sports cap nozzle if you have only a small area to clean, (simply squeeze the product lightly over the area and mop it up with a slightly damp mop) or can be diluted in boiling water for larger areas. Works well on any floor, leaving non slippy and definitely clean floors- works particularly well on mud marks, shoe skid marks and spilled liquid stains. All in all this is a product well worth having for it provides excellent results, is eco-friendly and is brilliant for those who suffer with particular ailments if you are willing to pay the rather extortionate price and time for it. Method Mint Window Glass Cleaning Spray
by katyj10 This is a review of Method Mint Window Glass Cleaning Spray which I have been using for a few months now. We had the bottle in the cupboard for ages before using it as my husband is the glass cleaning whizz in our house and he had been using Windolene until he saw I had bought this on a shopping trip. Packaging The ... bottle is 828ml which is quite large so it is quite heavy to hold when full. The bottle is clear, showing the Ice Blue liquid contents and has a trigger spray at the top which you can also lock shut. The label promises a non-toxic clean, declaring it is best in glass and a naturally derived and biodegradable formula. This makes me feel a bit better using it knowing my daughter will shortly probably be licking the same glass panel (yes, I know...). On the back of the label, the information is really clearly shown in a table with yellow writing on a blue background which really stands out nicely. It promises to be people friendly, glass friendly, bottle friendly (being made from 100% recycled material) and easy to use. Our house Downstairs in our house, all the internal doors have eight internal glass panes in them, with a double set of these doors leading to upstairs. We also have French Windows, and a large picture window in the front room. And a nearly two year old with often grubby hands. This means we have to clean the glass in the house on a more regular schedule than most. I also recently bought mirrored wardrobes for our bedroom which also sport small hand prints from where little miss has been admiring herself. In use We use this product with 'Plenty' Kitchen roll (the large sheet ) as it seems to give the right resistance to the glass when used in combination with the Method Mint Window Glass Cleaning Spray. A couple of squirts directly to the glass and a circular motion gets the cleaner in action and a dry piece mops up any excess. Price This Method brand is available from places like John Lewis and Waitrose, so it's probably quite a posh cleaning product, in that you're not going to find it in Pound Land. But I have to confess mine was from a Company Shop which sells things at a discount and this was a one off bottle. Often when home shopping doesn't reach its original destination it ends up at the Company shop so I know I paid £2.50 for the 828ml bottle. In John Lewis it is £4 a bottle. My thoughts Whilst I have used this product, I must confess my husband has used it more (!) and he commented the other day "This glass cleaner is really good" which is quite a comment from him as he LOVES Windolene! The mint fragrance of the product is clearly subtle as he is not a big fan of anything mint, turning down sweets, gum and shower gel in that fragrance. I really like the fact that the product seems to be really eco aware and against chemical formulas, for what is essentially just something to polish up your glass and remove finger prints. We have used this on glass doors, mirrors, the TV and on our cars and it has come up trumps each time. Final word I am so pleased that I fell upon this product and as it was a one off and I love trips to John Lewis, I am sure we will put one in our basket next time I persuade my hubby to go on the tram to Sheffield. I think £4 is a fair price for so much product as it lasts such a long time and we know it's going to work on the plethora of glass we have in our house. Recommended and a repurchase on the cards for us. Read the complete review |

Method Clementine Dish Wash Liquid
by Machair1 METHOD WASHING UP LIQUID --------------------------------------------- I use Method products in my home almost exclusively for cleaning as they are remarkably good and are natural and free from harsh chemicals. That isn't to say that I don't use heavy duty bleach based cleaners and so on for jobs that demand it, but on the ... whole these products are excellent for keeping on top of household chores. The product that I value highly is the Clementine dish washing liquid which I have been using for many months now. It is available from many supermarkets as well as from Amazon and from Method themselves at www.methodproducts.co.uk. Appearances in certain supermarkets such as the Co-op seem to be sporadic and unpredictable. I spotted some on a recent trip to Britain's most remote Co-op in The Outer Hebrides, but on my subsequent visit it had vanished, but it certainly is stocked in all the major stores including B&Q and Homebase. It is also available from online retailers operating in the ethical field such as Ethical Superstore and Big Green Smile. The beauty of this product is that the bottle itself is a pump dispenser which holds a generous 532 ml and that refills are available in 1032ml size plastic tetra-packs which represent excellent value for money. The bottle itself is an excellent design and looks very sleek indeed, and the pump dispenser allows the product to be either squirted directly onto a sponge or cleaning cloth, or onto a bowl of hot water, or even onto dirty dishes directly. It produces masses of lovely bubbles and the scent is absolutely beautiful as it is fresh and has a citrus aroma. The cleaning capabilities of this dish washing liquid are excellent. Compared to Ecover which is another brand leader in this ecologically friendly area this surpasses this hands down in my opinion. Although I have a dishwasher I have certain items that I prefer to hand wash such as my Circulon pans and so on which I am hoping to keep for a long time, and sometimes these present quite a challenge. In every case to date the washing liquid has surpassed all my expectations cutting through dried on food effortlessly leaving the dishes clean and with a lingering orange oil scent. It took me a long time to accept that there really was an eco-friendly product that was as good as Fairy which was my dish washing liquid of choice for many years. Having tried several others in the environmentally friendly category I had never been sufficiently convinced that they had the right amount of cleaning power to make the job less than a massive chore- until I found Method! The product is also remarkably kind to hands as well, and I have never found my skin to be made dry by using this so again this is another attribute. This maybe due to the coconut oil content and the inclusion of vitamin E and aloe vera which all impart moisture and softness. This of course is not a problem if you use Fairy but some other liquids can be very harsh when used with regularity. Furthermore it is also lovely to use to wipe down kitchen worktops on a daily basis, and just recently Method have launched a sister product in this Clementine fragrance which is a surface cleaning spray to complement their existing multi-purpose sprays in the Pink Grapefruit and Lavender ranges. This is excellent too and ideal to use on kitchen worktops and in bathrooms. It is also useful to know that a little of the product goes a long way so it is economical. Although I am always looking to purchase ethical and environmentally friendly products, I won't do so at the expense of performance and this product excels in all aspects of use from cleaning capabilities to dispenser design, and also has skin preservation and protection qualities. The entire bottle is recyclable as well, but of course if you buy the tetra-packs you won't be doing this on a regular basis. I tend to purchase refills in bulk from Amazon as I always have a supply ready. I do this by taking out a subscription which is a highly effective way to ensure you never run out, and can benefit from the discounts associated with this scheme. I highly recommend this if you haven't looked at it already. I have many groceries on subscription with Amazon on either a monthly or longer interval delivery schedule, and it is easy to amend, postpone or cancel them at any time. The refills work out at £8.09 on subscription for 2 tetra-packs of 1064mls which equates to a bottle refill for just over £2. Of course they offer free delivery as well for their grocery orders. Method also make this washing up liquid in a Cucumber fragrance which is equally effective at removing grease and dried on food, but overall I prefer the Clementine scent a little over this one. I highly recommend this product. The packaging is sleek, the scent beautiful, the results are outstanding and it leaves hands soft and pleasantly fragranced. It is also great for the environment and excellent for recycling qualities. Added to this it is economical and is a joy to use. I sometimes even wash up by hand instead of using the dishwasher just for the pleasure of using it so it really is that good! Read the complete review |
