Ambi Pur 3volution
Advantages: Long lasting. re-usable, lots of different fragrances.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive to buy.
I do keep a fresh smelling home and this is usually obtained by ensuring my home is nice and clean, but when I need an extra boost I also use the Ambi Pur 3volution plug in air freshener.
While in my early twenties I tried scented candles and oil burners, but usually found any scent provided was obscured when the candle was blown out. I also have this weird thing where I can't use lighters, I don't know why I just have trouble getting them to light and then when they light I am usually so surprised I drop the lighter, so as you can imagine I am a bit of a fire hazard. I can use matches, but I am a bit tentative when it comes to striking them and Mr H does not like the smell of matches.
So when the first plug in air fresheners came on the market I was quite eager to try them out. The plug in air freshener's work by gently warming the scented oil up that is in a small bottle that slots in the bottom of the plug in unit so it gradually emits the fragrance. I thought these were great, but the down side was that after a while I stopped smelling the fragrance, I knew it was still working though as when I turned the unit on first thing in the morning I could smell it again.
Then along came Ambi Pur 3volution, this is like your traditional plug in except that it uses 3 complementing scented oils as appose to 1.
Unfortunately the initial outlay of purchasing a 3volution unit is quite high, anywhere between £8 and £10, so I did wait till they were on offer before securing my first plug in unit. I think I paid less than £5 for my unit and it came with a set of scented oils so I was up and running. The refills for the plug in can cost anywhere between £3 and £5 depending on what scents you buy and where you buy them from, so if you can get a full unit on a half price offer you have got a bargain.
Now these do work like the old style single plug-ins, once you have removed your plug in unit from its sealed plastic packaging and liberated the scented oils too you are faced with the task of putting your plug-in air freshener together.
The three scented oils are fixed together with a plastic clip that is coloured according to the type of fragrance the bottles contain; flowery fragrances are usually pink, outdoor fragrances blue, plant type smells green etc. . . The bottles should not be taken apart and the oil in each bottle should only be used in the bottle provided and with a 3volution plug in. Each little bottle will have a screw cap, once each cap is unscrewed it reveals what is in essence a wick, I keep the caps as they come in handy for sealing the bottles back up if you want to switch fragrances before the oil has run out. The bottles can then be inserted into the plug in unit, just push them firmly till they click in and you are ready to go. There is a little slide situated on one side of the plug in unit, this can be set to three different settings, low, medium and high. The box recommends that setting the unit to a medium setting and using for 12 hours a day will give you a life span of 90 days for each fragrance unit. I find this to be about right. I use my plug in on the low setting for the first week or so as I find the fragrance to be very strong, I will then switch it to the medium setting till it runs out.
The thing that 3volutuion has over other plug in air fresheners is that it switches between fragrances every 45 minutes, ensuring that you can constantly smell the air freshener as the new smell is picked up by your nose, I find the fragrances each have there own distinctive perfume but still complement each other. You can tell which fragrance is being emitted because a small red light is lit above the hole where the fragrance comes from. The plug-ins are usually strong enough to easily fill the down stairs of my medium sized three bedroom house with a beautiful fragrance.
I have had my plug-in unit for around three years and have a second one for use upstairs. The plug-in units are very sturdy and I have not had one break on me, the white plastic is easy to wipe clean and comes up like new. I think the good thing about these units is that there are so many different perfumed refills to choose from, you can quite easily and cheaply perfume your whole house after the initial cost of the plug-in units.
In conclusion I think these are a great item for any home. There are better looking air fresheners widely available now but this one does the job.
Thank you for reading.
