Disadvantages: I wish the scent lasted longer..
* INFO - WHY DID I BUY? *
Many regular readers of my reviews will be aware by now that I work part time as an Avon representative when my poor health allows. This means that I not only have great access to many of the newly launched ranges and products that Avon have to offer, but I also have the opportunity to find some great bargains and deals from many of Avon's ranges.
One range that I really quite like is the "Avon Naturals Range" which has a selection of freshly-fragranced shower gels and room sprays amongst their range of body lotions and such like. I do quite like the Room & Linen sprays in the range and have tried out several of them in the past.
One such room spray that I had not tried until recently is the "Lemon Blossom & Basil Room & Linen Spray". I had been aware of the spray in amongst the others in the range some time ago but had never got around to trying it myself. I got the opportunity to purchase some of the Avon Room & Linen Sprays at a reduced price recently, when they were on offer in a sale brochure provided from Avon.
The Naturals Room & Linen Sprays are usually priced around the £4 mark, which I think is reasonable value but not the best, especially considering the rather neat size of the 125ml bottles. With my recent purchases however, I was able to snap these up for only £1.50 each as they were on sale.
The Avon sprays are of course dual purpose in that they can be used to freshen up either a room or your linen. I personally seldom use them to freshen up linen as I don't really feel the need, except perhaps when on holiday if I happen to have one of the sprays with me. In terms of using the spray in the room however, I find the Avon Naturals Room & Linen sprays offer something a little different to other scented sprays that I have used before.
Firstly, the scents and aromas of the sprays are usually MUCH nicer than shop-bought air fresheners that can feel quite 'false' and often carry a sort of 'chemical' scent in their tone. The Avon sprays in comparison, feel much lighter and more natural based which is why I prefer them. The Lemon Blossom & Basil spray was one that I was looking forward to trying out, particularly as I adore fruity scented products and I thought the fragrance sounded very appealing.
* PRODUCT DETAILS & MY OPINION.. *
The bottle is not particularly eye-catching or appealing, I have to admit. Comprising of a clear plastic bottle that has a very slim, thin look to it, there is a pump dispenser on top, to allow you to spray the product easily. On the front of the bottle is an attractive label showing an image of brightly-coloured lemons among some crisp green leaves. I have to confess that I don't feel the product would have 'stood out' to me if I had been scanning a supermarket shelf.
The product, when sprayed, instantly gives the room a bit of a 'lift' thanks to the refreshing scent of lemon which is very citrus like in its aroma as you would expect. There is no 'acidity' in the fragrance however, which I think is what I had been expecting, and would have perhaps given the product a slightly harsh feeling. Instead, the aroma of lemon feels wonderfully fruity and surprisingly light. The basil that is in the fragrance is very understated, so much so that I couldn't detect it initially. Eventually, I could detect a slightly 'earthy' feeling to the initial citrus scent that I can only assume is coming from the basil as this is not something I would associate with citrus or lemon scents at all. It never really comes to the forefront of the aroma however, and I felt as though it may as well not have been mentioned in the product's description at all. This is not a huge negative for me, as I really like the light, summery feeling of the product.
I would assume that the result would be the same if the product were to be sprayed onto linen, but I cannot clarify this as I have not tried this for myself. What I CAN confirm however, is that any time I have used the Avon Room & Linen sprays on linen or laundry, they have caused nothing in the way of staining or discolouration, which would obviously render the product rather useless. There is a warning on the bottle stating that the sprays should not be applied directly to wooden furniture.
I tend to use the spray all around my home, except my bedroom and kitchen, but I particularly like to use it in my bathroom, as I find it does a reasonable job at helping to 'mask' any unpleasant smells that may be lurking around after my cat's litter tray has been cleaned out...! Without going into too much detail, she is a very old girl and it is fair to say that both her bowel and her bladder have seen better days, as have the smells that escape from within. *ahem*. I find that the room spray works fairly well at helping to move such smells along...... and out the open window.
The one downside I have found with using the Avon spray is that the lovely aroma does not last very long. This is something I have found with any of the other Avon Room & Linen Sprays that I have tried before, so it is what I had expected to be fair. I do find that the Lemon Blossom & Basil spray performs particularly poorly in terms of longevity, with the spray only lasting for about half an hour or so, after which I can hardly detect its fruity aroma at all. Perhaps I am being a bit unfair here, as the spray is not marketed as being an air freshener or anything, but I did hope that this scents citrus-like aroma would fare well, as such fragrances are usually quite strong, but this is not the case.
In saying that, I would definitely repurchase the spray again in the future as I really loved the smell and thought it had a pleasantly light, summery and rather 'uplifting' feel to it that delivered much more than I had been expecting. I usually use one of the Avon sprays to give my rooms a 'lift' if I am having visitors over and the Lemon Blossom spray has been the one I have opted to use recently. Each time I have done so, my visitors have enquired as to which Yankee Candle tart I have been burning that day, and have been quite surprised when I have produced the bottle of Avon spray, smugly informing them that THIS product is the source of the delicious smell they are experiencing. This speaks volumes to me, and I have already re-ordered a second spray as a result.
As I touched on earlier, there is a selection of fragranced Room & Linen Sprays available to buy from the Avon Naturals range, some of which are sort of 'discontinued' such as the Lemon Blossom & Basil spray I am reviewing here, but still appear regularly in sale brochures and on the company's website at www.avonshop.co.uk. Similarly, you can ask your local Avon Representative to track down the sprays for you, which he/she should be able to do for you quite easily. I have also seen a selection of the sprays available to buy online at www.ebay.co.uk, for as little as 50 pence plus postage costs.
Full marks from me for this beautifully-scented room spray from Avon.
Summary: I'd recommend it and will buy it again!
