I bought this oven cleaner before we moved into our new home last August. The oven had been left by the previous tenants but I wasn't sure how clean it would be and as I am a bit of a clean freak and do suffer with OCD I decided I needed cleaning materials of all kinds ready for moving day! I found this cleaner in Home Bargains and I think I paid 89p for a 300ml aerosol which is a great price as on Amazon at the moment it is over £3.
However when we got to our home the oven had been professionally cleaned so therefore luckily I didn't need to use my cleaner so it sat in the cupboard and waited, and waited, and waited until I couldn't put off the dreaded job any longer! I always cook using a tray so the oven hadn't got too messy but the door was beginning to look a bit grubby so I decided it was time for a clean.
The main thing I wanted to clean in the oven were the shelves so I began with these. The spray is extremely simple to use, you simply spray onto the surface from about 20cm away and then leave to work for about 5 minutes. The spray comes out as a foam and this expands when it comes into contact with oxygen.
You need to preheat the oven to a low temperature (less than 100 degrees centigrade) before applying the foam inside the oven as the heat helps the foam to shift the dirt. This only took about five minutes so I was able to get started on this quickly.
Whilst waiting for the shelves I sprayed the inside of the oven. I gave this a really good coating of the foam because theres nothing I hate more than spending time cleaning something and then it still not looking perfect. I left this to work whilst I went back to the shelves.
I scrubbed at the shelves with a scourer and most of the marks did come off. I hate cleaning things like shelves as it takes so long to get in between all of the wire so I gave them a quick scrub and then decided to put a second coating of the spray on and also put it on my trays.
I cleaned out the oven first and found the foam very simple to get off using a wet sponge. I was really pleased at how well the dirt just slid off as it needed very little scrubbing apart from a few bits on the bottom. The only problem I did find was where to put the foam so I used an old washing up bowl but still managed to get quite a lot on the floor!
I then gave the shelves and the trays a quick wipe over and rinsed them under the cold tap just to ensure all traces of the foam were gone.
For some silly reason I decided not to wear gloves whilst doing this and I did find that my hands were very dry after use and my skin was peeling off however my hands often decide to do this all of a sudden so it may not have been the product at all but I would recommend wearing gloves just incase.
I was very impressed with this product for just 89p. I didn't enjoy my oven cleaning experience because of the mess and its just not a very fun job but I think the cleaner did the job well. My oven itself is sparkling now and I feel much happier when I see it! The shelves are brighter and cleaner though there is still some burned on bits on them. If I had scrubbed these a few more times I expect most of this would have come off but I had ran out of spray by the time I'd coated them the second time!
I will definitely try and find this spray in Home Bargains again next time the oven needs cleaning. I don't think anybody actually enjoys cleaning the oven but this foam makes it a relatively easy job though it is quite messy. The foam shifts the dirt well and for 89p I can't complain!
