Daisy Bathroom Cleaner
Advantages: Cheap, does the job
Disadvantages: It's not a rinse off product, but then it doesn't claim to be.
I've used many bathroom cleaners over the years from Ajax through Flash to Mr Muscle but with the recession biting good and deep we've been 'own brand' buying extensively lately, Some things prove to be minor disasters but Daisy bathroom cleaner which is part of Tesco's own brand of cleaning products is not one of them.
This cleaner at the time of writing costs 46p for 500mls.
The bottle is as the Dooyoo picture and as such is pretty much the same as most other similar products with a twist nozzle to close or open the spray. I really like the spray that daisy has, it seems better than some more expensive brands. The trigger action is quite firm and doesn't feel as if it will break too easily. The actual 'spread' of the spray is excellent and I notice that there is a little plastic square 'grill' over the aperture to the spray which I haven't noticed on other products... though I will be obsessively checking now. The spray is not too narrow and not too wide delivering a good even mist of liquid. This means it doesn't leave streaks of cleaner over the item to be cleaned which need to be spread around to be effective. Therefore the item is cleaned evenly and Daisy can be wiped away with no fussing about. It doesn't foam up a lot as some bathroom products do, but there is a little layer of bubbles on the surface if sprayed at close range which quickly disappear and don't seem to be anything to do with the cleaning action.
The instructions tell you that if the dirt is very in ground to leave it stand for 30 seconds. It isn't a spray and rinse product it will need to be wiped off with a cloth or sponge as instructed. I was very pleased with the results of this spray. It cut through grotty sink gunk quickly and just as effectively as other sprays I have used, more effectively than Flash in my opinion. I was impressed with it in my own home but even more impresses at that of a relative. This person has been ill and I've started to help out a little at their house. The bathroom was quite a challenge for a few reasons, one of them was it simply hadn't been cleaned for several months apart from a splash of bleach down the loo now and then. The other was the fact that the washers on the sink taps weren't working properly so there was a slick of soap scum mixed with rust that looked like the Penclawdd cockle beds at low tide. We hadn't realised how poorly he'd been coping so myself and some other family members have a little rota going now. Even on a splash back that looked more like a black board than white tiles Daisy got the worst of the dirt off first time (after leaving to sit for 30 seconds.. I timed it). Considering the challenge it faced here Daisy did us proud.
This cleaner the bottle tells us is suitable for most bathroom surfaces, but states that it is not suitable for wood, painted or porous surfaces, also marble, aluminium or coloured enamel! That seems like quite a long list of don'ts in my opinion. However when I think about it I don't have any of these items in my bathroom so Daisy is perfectly fine in my home. I have used it on glass and it seems to clean it well but it was no better on mirrored surfaces than other products of this type, and I prefer to use a specific glass product on mirrors anyway. All other bathroom fixtures were cleaned beautifully with little effort; it brought the chrome up on the taps well too.
There is no addition as far as I'm aware with Daisy of any ingredient that forms a protective shield to prevent build up of soap scum etc, as some products now have to keep the bathroom clean for longer. That is something I do like about some of the more expensive brands, but it is not really a problem I don't expect a budget brand to have all the bells and whistles as long as it works that is all that I expect or require.
Another thing Daisy doesn't have is a nice 'clean' lasting aroma, and to be honest I do miss that, there is of course a smell of sorts but it's a subtle generic cleaning product smell which isn't strong or offensive. However the shower products etc that we use give a nice smell to the room, and most importantly I know the bathroom is clean so the scent is just cosmetic really. Saving around the £1 to £2 ish mark every time I buy a cleaning product is more important than having a lasting scent at the moment.
I never use products like this without using gloves, so can't comment on how it might affect my skin, but with all products like this I assume it would be best to avoid prolonged contact with the hands.
I really like the Daisy range of products and as long as the price remains a lot less than the branded products I will continue to buy it.
Summary: A good product from the Daisy range, I would recommend.
