Daisy Original Washing Up Liquid
Advantages: Cheap, cleans well, good bottle design.
Disadvantages: Need to use a tad more liquid than Fairy when washing up!
When I ran out of my Fairy Liquid the other month, I decided to give Tesco's Daisy Liquid a go instead in order to save a few pence!! I do not have access to a dishwasher either at home or university, so I get through washing up liquid quite quickly and thought this would make economical sense.
The bottle itself is quite different to Fairy Liquid because the top is much wider than the bottom. This has two advantages because it means that it doesn't slip out your hands when wet and also holds more liquid than Fairy. For your information, a standard Daisy bottle holds 500ml compared to Fairy's 433ml, which means you literally get more for your money! The bottle itself is see-through so you can see the coloured liquid inside and the lid is a traditional flip lid. The label is quite eye-catching with the bold lettering of 'Daisy' and the flower image below.
The liquid itself is bright green and doesn't have a fragrance like citrus or roses. It smells quite fresh and a little like a detergent. Nothing particularly special, but it is certainly not off-putting. The consistency of the liquid is quite thick as well, which I did not expect from a budget washing up liquid! I usually run hot water into a washing-up bowl and pour a small amount into the flow of water. I found that you need to use a little more than Fairy to ensure that you get a good amount of bubbles to clean your dishes in! But overall, I was pleased with the amount of lather you got from this liquid. I use a brush to remove stubborn food and grease, but if this will not work I normally soak the item in the water for a few minutes and it comes of quite easily. Glasses come out clean and shiny, and do not leave that horrible disinfectant taste on once they have dried!
I do not normally wear gloves when I wash up and I have never found any irritation due to the liquid, despite having mildly sensitive skin. In fact, I normally skirt a bit on my hands to wash them if I can't find the soap!! However, my hands do start to feel a bit dry when I constantly do this so I do not recommend it!!
You can buy this budget liquid in Tesco for 59p which is about half the price of Fairy liquid, and offers great value for money. I know I will not be going back to the branded product after using this version. There is also an antibacterial version available for 70p, which I have not used because I think the original variety would do the job just as well! The bottle normally lasts a month for me because I am the only one using it and I normally wash all my items up together at the end of the day! I recommend giving this washing up liquid a go if you want to save some money... I can't see that you would be disappointed!
