I remember Dettol from being a little girl but more the stuff my Mam used to put on my grazes and make me cry with! Knowing that Dettol has been around for so long makes me confident in their products and as I love the trigger spray of the products I decided to buy a bottle of this so I could use it on my flooring.
The product is a decent price at £1 for a litre bottle and I have seen it in the blue variety but I always buy the green which is Green apple as I always love the smell of lemons or apples in my kitchen and bathroom.
The product comes in a frosted plastic bottle with a bright green screw cap lid on it, on the front of the bottle it tells you that it kills 99.9% of bacteria and it cuts through grease and soap scum. On the back of the bottle it tells you that it can be used on all hard surfaces but that you should test it on an inconspicuous area, you also have a list of ingredients and a warning that it is an irritant.
To use the product it can be used neat or diluted, if you use it neat then it needs to be rinsed afterwards however I have always used it diluted. You have to use 3 capfuls of product with 5 litres of water for light cleaning and 2 capfuls of product to 1 litre of product for tough cleaning and killing bacteria.
The product is very thin and bright green in colour, it smells very strongly of apples which is gorgeous and when you add hot water to it for washing the floor the steam from the water causes the apple smell to drift through the house. As the liquid is so thin it can be quite hard to pour an exact capful when the bottle is full.
The product cleans the floors really well and my kitchen floor being lino looks really shiny after I've used the product. If you put too much of the product in the water then you get a white soapy layer on the floor whilst it is wet although this disappears once it dries. The smell of the product remains well which I like as I like the smell so much however as soon as you cook something you pretty much loose the nice apple smell.
I really like this product, I liked it in a spray and now I like it as a floor cleaner too, it's a great price cleans well , smells lovely and apparently kills 99.9% of bacteria which gives added piece of mind especially when I have a number of pets and two children running through the kitchen constantly.
When it comes to cleaning my home I buy an awful lot of cleaning products to do so as I'm rather house proud really and hate things to be grubby and less than spic and span.
The other day I was walking through my local Poundland store when I stopped to collect a few cleaning bits and pieces and I spotted this and for a rather large bottle of a branded name product I am very well aware of in a 1 Litre size and for just a pound I was more than happy to buy it to try out.
Please note that my bottle doesn't say 4 in 1 on it but its still the multi action cleaner so the title of this product may have changed since this link was originally requested.
My bottle in front of me is white and frosted but still see through with an integrated handle to one side of it and a yellow twist on/off cap/lid to the top of it. On the front of my bottle I am told that it is Dettol Anti-Bacterial Cleaner 'Complete Clean' and that it kills 99.9% of bacteria, cuts through grease & soap scum and that the scent option I bought is Citrus Fresh and there is a small picture of lemons on there. On the back of the bottle other information listed includes being told and shown via diagrams where it is suitable to be used, we are given instructions for using it, the size is stated (as I have listed already), warnings are clearly stated and contact details for the manufacturer are given. This is a nice large bottle of product and I do appreciate having an integrated handle to it. Its informative enough in the information stakes and I also like being able to see how much product I have used etc.
Well this is basically suitable for most surfaces in your home as long as they are sealed surfaces, its not advisable to use it on carpets or laminate and basically any upholstery other than that you use this in any room in your home if you wish to!
The scent of my citrus scent is sweet, has a slight smell of lemon to it though it isn't as zesty or as strong as I assumed it was going to be however its a nice enough fresh fragrance though nothing amazing.
To use this, you can use it neat on stubborn stains or dilute a couple of capfuls to water and there is no need to rinse after using it. I have used this in my Bathroom: Bath , sink, taps and toilet, Kitchen: Worktops, doors of cupboards even my stainless steal sink and my skirting boards..... all over my home and basically I really do like this product. It lifts grease and grime with ease and as promised I don't need to rinse. I have used this neat on my hob too and it was pretty effective and although I didn't need to rinse because of smears left behind I did rinse because of bits I had got up will real ease!
It really does leaves things looking and feeling clean and its just a one product sort of does loads of jobs type of thing. In the kitchen this can KO the flu virus and E.Coli so its safe as well and it leaves a soft and gentle fragrance behind itself for a good hour after using which isn't sickly or anything adverse like that thankfully.
I shall not hesitate in purchasing this product again simply as it offers so much at a great price. Do not attempt to clean mirrors or windows with it though (trust me on that advice!) and it will all work out fine lol.
Available in all good supermarkets etc but my local Poundland always stocks this product in varying scents and formats.
I am a bit of clean freak, although I never use to be that way, infact I was quite a pig but I wont tell you all the gross details of what my house use to be like before I started to probably see what others did, and realised it was gross now I have gone the other way and clean, clean and clean!
***What it does***
This is a 4 in 1 cleaner; it is suitable for floors, kitchen worktops, bathrooms and pretty much anything except wood and delicate items obviously!
I tend to use this for my bathroom and also use it alot for my floors, as I have a crawling baby I have to make sure my floor is probably cleaner then most because of my little ones hands on the floor and I have 2 cats.
The colour of the liquid is really green and you mix part of the product with water and I am a bit terrible and never measure the right capfuls I just pour in as much as I want and clean whatever I am cleaning.
The smell is meant to be Green Apple, I guess its a little that way although I would say the smell is a lot better then other highly chemical products that I have used in the past, and it really does the trick for cleaning everything in my house as it states it kills 99.9% of germs which is what I want from a cleaner. It also leaves a nice shine on surfaces.
Amines, C12-18-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides
Alkyl (C12-16) dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride
Alcohol (C10) ethoxylated
Alcohols, C9=C11, ethoxylated
You can pick one of these up for £2.20 ish from most supermarkets; I got my last bottle a couple of weeks ago for £1 as Asda had a special offer on.
Whilst I hate having to spend money on all the things I need to keep my house clean, I do like to know I'm buying products that will actually kill germs instead of just smelling when used.
It's because of this that I always buy Dettol products. I grew up around the brand name Dettol and its funny how you revert back to your childhood to use a brand you trust.
I buy my floor cleaner in a multi action bottle. This means I can use one product for many uses, but like many of you I'll bet you have your favourite products for each job. This multi action cleaner is my favourite for my floors for a number of reasons.
The main reason is the aroma of it. In a nutshell it doesn't leave a lasting smell, and this suits my family as with a toddler running around after me, and putting anything in her mouth she can think of (including licking),then I prefer this product on the miniscule chance she manages to lick it off the floor. Obviously I'm not saying it's not going to do her any harm as I know it would, but it's more neutral than others I have come across.
The other main reason is that it doesn't foam up like some other cleaners on the market. I prefer this because it means I can see how dirty the water is getting and be secure in the knowledge that I'm not covering my floors with dirty foam over and over again because there is more foam than water.
Dettol multi action can be used on a variety of surfaces including floors, bathrooms, tables etc. You can use it neat for stubborn stains and cleaning things like the bathroom, or it can be diluted for use on floors. I always dilute more than I need to, but again this is due to having a toddler around and I worry what she may get into.
Once your substance is diluted in the bucket, generally 2caps in a litre of water, I just use a normal mop to do my floors. I find that it cleans well compared to others I have used in the past. It dries well without leaving stubborn streaky marks.
I try to be very careful with my laminate floors as I worry of using too much liquid and causing them to lift. With warm water Dettol dries quickly and I haven't yet come across a lifted board.
Dettol multi action cleaner comes in a 1 litre bottle and will cost around £1.95. It claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria including e-coli.
This bottle will last a good few weeks with regular cleaning as you don't need very much at all.
On a safety aspect, this bottle must be kept out of children's reach as it doesn't have a safety lid on it, just a regular screw on lid.
I find this product a great asset to cleaning floors. The only time it lets itself down is when it comes to really stubborn marks, and then a mop just won't cut it with diluted cleaner. You will need to use some neat on a sponge or cloth.
I like most men hate house work but I do like cleaning, if that makes sense? I see house work as ironing, doing the dishes, hovering and the likes all of which I hate but when it comes to cleaning the bathroom or kitchen I don't mind at all, there is something kind of therapeutic about it.
My other half is usually the one who would go out and buy the cleaning stuff and indeed all the messages but I happened to be with her on a trip to Sainsbury not so long ago and when she was just about to stick a Sainsbury own brand multipurpose cleaner in the trolley I spied this one by Dettol on offer at £1.29 for a litre (normally £2.09) so we changed and bought this and will never look back.
With a title like Dettol All Purpose Cleaner Multi-Action 4in1 it ought to be good and good it is. I have to admi that most all purpose cleaners I have used tend to do a good enough job this one just does it better. A far superior shine to the taps and other metal surfaces and it can easily wipe of stubborn stains where as a fair amount of elbow grease can be needed with other cleaners.
At first glance this will appear to be in a blue bottle but the bottle is in fact clear and it is the liquid contained inside that is the deep blue colour (if you are using the Atlantic fresh version) It is clearly marked with the Dettol logo so you know you are getting a quality brand.
The product comes in two forms, the afore mentioned Atlantic fresh and green apple I have never come across the green apple version but I guess the only difference will be the aroma which leads me to the lovely fresh smell the Atlantic fresh version has. It is a very clean and crisp smell without being overpowering, it smells very outdoor like but unlike many outdoor aromas there is no floral hint. The aroma certainly adds to my reasons for choosing it.
Available in most supermarkets and local stores you will have no problem getting your hands on this product and I personally would recommend you at least give it a try, no matter which brand you are using now I am fairly certain this will eclipse it.
There are different ways to use this dettol depending on what you are cleaning, for mopping just add two capfuls to around 5 litres of water, for bunkers or sinks and the likes I like to make up a mixture of this and water in a spray bottle, around 75%water to 25% Dettol is good or it can be used neat on stubborn stains.
I won't go too much into how and when to use so as not to insult anyone's intelligence!
Thanks for reading!
When I'm choosing my cleaning products I like to stick to well known brands such as Mr Muscle, Flash, Dettol etc although I have been known to try out the supermarkets own branded products now and again only to be left with a disappointed feeling as the products are useless compared to the bigger branded competitors. Dettol 4in1 is a multi surface cleaner which I have been using for a few weeks now and I am extremely pleased with the results from it. What I really like most about Dettol 4in1 is the fact that it is an all round multi purpose cleaner which not only cleans your surfaces but it also kills harmful bacteria and germs as well. I really like Dettol products because they not only smell nice and hygienic but they also kill germs around the home and are extremely reasonably priced. Quite a lot of cleaning products which I have bought in the past only clean your surfaces and leave them smelling nice, but with Dettol 4in1 you are getting the added benefit of it killing 99% of harmful bacteria and germs on your household surfaces.
I purchased a 1litre bottle of Dettol 4in1 from Tesco's and it cost £1.99 which is a fairly reasonable price, even although it is a little more expensive if you compare it to Flash all Purpose Cleaner which costs £1.49 per litre. I'm not too sure if you can purchase Dettol 4in1 in smaller sized bottles, however I did notice that there are two different fragrances options to choose from which are Green Apple and Atlantic Fresh, I bought the Atlantic fresh one first and liked it and went back into Tesco a few days later and bought the Green Apple one as well. As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the bottle of Dettol 4in1 is supplied in a chunky see through plastic bottle which has a handle on the side of it which makes it much easier to hold and measure out the desired amount of the liquid. As I have said in lots of reviews which I have written I really like products which are supplied in see through containers because you can easily see how much of the product you are using and how much is remaining inside the bottle. I find this particle useful compared to non see through packaging as I can just glance in the cleaning cupboard and easily tell which products I need to buy more of instead of pulling out all of the bottles and shaking them to judge how much is remaining inside of them. On the top of the Dettol 4in1 bottle there is a blue screw on off lid which also serves the purpose of a measuring cap which when filled measures out 30ml of the Dettol4in1 liquid. On the back of the bottle there is a label which tells you a little bit about the product, usage instructions and health and safety advice.
On average a 1litre bottle of Dettol 4in1 lasted mo for about a week, which is relatively good compared to Flash All Purpose as I could easily polish off two litres in a week; and its not because my house is dirty. Anyone whom has laminated flooring in the home will know that it can get quite dirty in a short space of time. I find the only way to keep the flooring looking clean at all times is to brush and mop it several times per day as I hate seeing little specs of dust/dirt, crumbs and pet hair on it. So with young children and two cats and two dogs in the house I am constantly brushing and mopping the flooring; so I need a good floor cleaner which will lift the dirt and leave the flooring looking shiny and not a cleaner which leaves a residue after I have washed it. This is where Dettol 4in1 comes in extremely handy as all I need to do is add two 30ml capfuls to 5litres of hot water and mop away.
As I have stated previously in this review it is recommended that you use 2 capfuls of Dettol 4in1 to 5 litres of water. One of the main things which I noticed about this product when I added it to the water was the fact that the water changed to a cloudy blue colour (changes to cloudy green if you use Green Apple) and there was some white foam and some bubbles on the surface of the water. The fragrance from the product was also quite strong, but not too string in a perfumed sort of way., it had more of a clean hygienic aroma which just had a slightly sweet undertone. When I am mopping the floors with Dettol 4in1 it doesn't leave a bubbly lather on the floor nor does it spread the dirt around, it lifts the dirt with ease and it is particularly good at lifting sticky and greasy marks off of the flooring. Once I have finished mopping the flooring and it has dried completely the floor looks really shiny as if it has just been polished and there are no streaky markings or residue on it. The fresh aroma from Dettol 4in1 also lingers in the rooms I have used it in and the aroma seems to linger for quite sometime; approximately 90 minutes or so. The real evidence of Dettol 4in1 working properly and lifting the dirt of the floor is the colour of the water after I have mopped. The water is still a cloudy blue colour, although it seems to look a lot more cloudier and darker with specs of dirt through it, which is real hard evidence that the product is in fact working and cleaning properly instead of pushing the dirt around.
As well as being a brilliant floor cleaner Dettol 4in1 can also be used to clean your bathroom suite and fixtures. Normally I prefer a bleach based product for cleaning the bathroom but as Dettol 4in1 has more of a clean hygienic aroma compared to a highly perfumed one I actually like using it in the bathroom. There are two different ways you can use the product in the bathroom the first option is to use it neat on a cloth and clean the surfaces then rinse it off. I only use it neat on the dirty areas where shampoo has been spilled or there are soap marks etc. However using it neat does leave the bathroom suite clean and shiny just like the flooring however I get the feeling that you do use too much of it if you are cleaning the whole bathroom with it neat. I prefer to dilute two 30ml capfuls of it in a trigger action bottle filled with cold water as you are using less of the Dettol4in1 liquid therefore it will last you longer. You don't have to go out and buy a trigger spray bottle, an old Mr Muscle Kitchen Cleaner or similar style bottle will do just fine if you rinse it out thoroughly before adding the Dettol and water to it and remember to label it. Once you have your diluted solution just spray your bath sink etc with it and leave it on for a few minutes before wiping and rinsing it off to have a shiny looking clean bathroom.
Dettol 4in1 can be used on a multitude of different surfaces in and around the home such as kitchen worktops, cookers, fridges, pet bowls, cat litter trays, window ledges, chopping boards, baby high chairs, walker pens etc. although you do need to make sure that you rinse the product off with a clean damp cloth after using Dettol 4in1 so as you remove all traces of the product. I really like using a dilute solution of Dettol 4in1 on the areas where food has been eaten or prepared as it removes nearly all types of bacteria and germs which can occur on such surfaces such as E-coli, Salmonella etc. Using it on cat litter trays and pet sleeping areas is also a great use for this product as pets carry germs and bacteria which can be harmful to humans so by using Dettol 4in1 I have peace of mind that my home is a germ and bacteria free zone.
I think that Dettol 4in1 Multi Action All Purpose cleaner is an excellent product because it is reasonably priced, can be used on lots of different surfaces in and around the home, and it is available to purchase in two different fragrances. Atlantic Fresh and Green Apple. At £1.99 per 1 litre bottle you cant really go wrong with this product because you can use it on virtually everything and you can have peace of mind that it not only cleans the surfaces used on bit it will also kill 99% of all bacteria and germs. If you have really young children then you could use a diluted solution of Dettol 4in1 to clean and remove bacteria and germs from their plastic toys.
Dettol 4in1 Multi Action All Purpose cleaner can be bought from Tesco at the price of £1.99 for a 1litre bottle, you should also be able to purchase it is other supermarkets such as Asda, Morrison's Wilkinson's etc although the price may differ depending on where you purchase it from.
