This is a review of Dettol Disinfectant Liquid Fresh Cotton Breeze which is one of those staple products we keep in the cleaning cupboard for a few household 'dirty' jobs. The bottle is a 500ml size and can be used neat or diluted. Packaging The bottle is blue plastic and has a label with a bit Dettol logo on it. It states that this particular 'cotton breeze' line is new and kills 99.9% of all bacteria and viruses. It has a white screw top lid, which it should be noted is NOT anti tamper so can be easily removed (not the best idea around children) but we keep ours out of reach of our daughter at all times. In use We tend to use this more as a diluted formula, for washing the kitchen floor with a sponge mop and also for cleaning out smelly dustbins and any bins in the house which become smelly. In the past we have cleaned out waste paper bins with these too if they have had leaky contents in them. This is a really a multi tasking product as you can use it on other things like drains, toilet seats and bowls, work surfaces, sinks and taps and dishcloths (for soaking)., chopping boards (non porous), high chairs, change mats and pet areas, even skin cleansing. However, we tend to use other products for all the latter mentioned uses as it's perhaps not a fragrance we actually want to smell of and I find the spray bottles of anti bacterial cleaner are a lot easier to use on surfaces and high chairs etc. Price A 500ml bottle of this costs just £2 in Asda which I think is brilliant value for money considering that you are using a small part diluted a lot of the time. Warning It advises to test on an inconspicuous area before use and never to use neat on skin cleansing. Don't use at all on broken skin and beware use on porous surfaces. Allow surface to dry before reintroducing pet. All this may seem obvious but it needs to be spelled out on a multi use, neat /diluted product. My thoughts We trust this brand and feel it works well having pets and young children in our house. We have used it to clean our daughter's room when she has been physically sick everywhere and it gives us peace of mind to know her mattress protector has been cleaned and wiped down with this product. It gets our bins back to smelling somewhere near normal and makes our kitchen floor clean and hygienic. As I said, we don't use this for everything although you really could rely on this as a multi use product around the house. As for smells, it does smell quite chemical to me but is slightly better than the original formula (yellow version) of Dettol disinfectant. The smell is not overpowering, especially when diluted but I always use rubber gloves when using this product as I feel it can be too harsh when it touches the skin (even diluted) and I really don't want to smell of it! Final word This is our go to product for dirty jobs and it is a brand we trust and will rebuy time and time again. The only thing I think could be improved is the screw cap closure, which would be better with a squeeze and release in my opinion. Having children and pets makes this an essential buy for us.
