Dettol Multi-Action 4in1 Trigger
Advantages: smells awful, doesnt work
Disadvantages: I got it free
I am a member of several survey sites and a few months ago, one site (I forget which, I use so many!) sent me a bottle of Dettol 4in1 spray to try. I was to use it for 2 weeks in place of my normal spray cleaners then give feedback.
~What is it~
This is a multi-purpose spray cleaner which does four jobs in one...
- Cuts kitchen grease
- Removes bathroom dirt
- Kills 99.9% of bacteria
- Leaves a fresh fragrance
At least that's what they claim.... I can't speak for number 3 (kills 99.9% of germs), I'll have to take their word for that, but the other 3 might be a bit of an exaggeration.
I normally use Cif Oxy-gel in my kitchen, and Flash bathroom spray in my bathroom, and I am more than happy with both of them.
To use this you simply spray onto the surface you want to clean, and (as instructed on the bottle) leave for 5 minutes then wipe. I thought it quite inconvenient that you have to leave this on to work, as I prefer to get my cleaning over and done with, rather than standing around waiting for so long.
I first used this on my hob, spraying it on and leaving while I did the washing up. The five minutes passed and I went to wipe this off, but despite spraying quite liberally it had virtually dried, meaning that it took excess elbow grease to actually remove the spillages I was trying to clean.
I then tried it on my bath, to remove soap scum - again I found that even when I didn't wait the full five minutes it was difficult to remove stains, I found myself scrubbing the bath with a lot more effort than normal.
Another thing I must comment on is the smell. I was given the 'Green Apple' fragrance which comes in a green bottle. When you first spray it, the smell is quite pleasant, but after about 10 minutes I found that it seemed to leave quite a chemical smell on all my surfaces.
~Is there anything I can't use it on?~
This cannot be used on - Marble, stone surfaces, natural wood, painted surfaces, enamel/metal baths and brass, copper or gold plated fittings.
This costs £1.98 for a 500ml bottle from Wilkinsons, which is slightly higher than the Cif Oxy-Gel I normally buy, which is about £1.40 or occasionally can be found in poundland
I had been instructed to use this for two weeks, but found that by this time almost three quarters of the bottle had been used (and I only live in a one bedroom flat, so it's not like I have a huge house to clean), so it's not very economical.
This comes in a green bottle with a white top which has a trigger action spray. The label features a picture of apples, and is quite pleasant to look at.
I'm glad I didn't actually spend any of my own money on this. When I found out I was getting a freebie I was quite pleased, as I really hate spending money on cleaning products - I think there are better things I could spend my money on, like shoes and handbags- but ultimately I was disappointed. Dettol is quite a well-known brand, and although I had never used a Dettol product before I expected a much higher standard of quality.
If you're thinking about buying this, I would strongly suggest that you go for Cif Oxy-Gel or Flash All-Purpose spray, both of which do what they say on the bottle.
