I have never liked the smell of Dettol, it's far too medicinal for my liking, and although I've tried some of their other products - such as the green apple spray - I have never really liked the brand. The only reason I came to try Dettol's Power and Pure Kitchen Spray is that we often shop in Costco and they seem to regularly have offers on this product. I believe we paid £2.99 for three 750ml bottles, which is exceptional value. Considering that the same size bottles cost £2 each in ASDA or £3 each in the other major supermarkets, we essentially got three bottles for the price of one. The kitchen spray comes in a white bottle with a trigger spray. The nozzle can be locked into the on/off position by twisting. I quite like the white and blue design of the packaging, however I think ultimately I would prefer a clear bottle as I like to have a visual reminder of when things need to be replaced. The product claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria and leave no chemical residue. It is nice to know that a product is killing germs as well as getting things clean. To use, simply spray and wipe. I mostly use this on my kitchen benches, but also on the stainless steel hob and draining board, the kitchen table and the tiles. Essentially it has been used on virtually every surface in my kitchen except the windows! I have also used it to clean the sink in the downstairs loo and have even wiped the paintwork down with it. The smell of the spray is not as bad as that of other Dettol products I've tried but is still not really a fragrance I like very much. It's very hard to describe the scent - I find it has a fairly chemical tone, but somehow smells clean at the same time. I really prefer something that has a distinctive fragrance to it - for example lemon - which is why I normally buy Flash. In terms of performance I cannot complain. The product is a thin, clear liquid and only a few sprays are needed for most surfaces. After wiping most surfaces look clean - it effortlessly removes any splashes or stains and I would have to agree with their claim that no chemical residue is left behind. The worst surface this product has to contend with is my hob when it is covered in burnt on food. My husband recently spilled chicken gravy on the hob and because it was hot at the time it all dried on. I usually spray and wipe, but this time I sprayed and left this on for a few moments and it came straight off with just a cloth. I was really pleased as looking at the state of it, I had expected it was going to be a 30 minute job involving twenty different products and a full packet of scourers! The only time I can recall this product struggling with anything, was when I noticed that the plastic door on my washing machine was covered in a sort of soap scum residue. This product didn't cope very well with that as I recall, despite spraying it on liberally and in the end I resorted to hot water and soda crystals which were cheaper but much more effective. On the whole this is a good product. It wouldn't be my first choice, again, just because of the smell. That said I would buy it again, especially if I see the same deal at Costco. Not only is it anti-bacterial, but it is very effective and leaves no stickiness or residue behind, so I feel it was a good buy.
Having an 18 month old daughter dettol is a must have in our house. Until recently I had been using the traditional clear bottles of dettol spray for our daughter's highchair and the kitchen surfaces etc. I wanted to give this a try as i like the idea of reducing the number of chemicals we use but still getting the whole 99.9 % of germs killing action! I brought a large bottle as it was on offer and it is as pictured above. I was surprised at how strong this smells, it smells a lot stronger than the old dettol spray and it actually smells like chemicals, which left me confused and feeling as though I had to keep rinsing off even though the bottle says it is not necessary. It sprays a kind of foam pray not like the old clear liquid at all. The smell is quite overpowering and stays in the air for a while after use. Its hard to say if this leaves any chemical residue (as i have no way of testing) but I think when this bottle is finished I will be returning to the old style dettol.
I do enjoy cleaning both the actual process as it keeps me busy (I am currently out of work due to mental health problems) and also because I love having a clean home as I tend to feel much happier and calmer when my surroundings are clean and tidy, I also am a worrier about what other people think so it is important to me that my home is clean. I use a variety of cleaning products and I am not faithful to any particular brands really as I tend to buy the branded products when they are on offer. When I saw the Dettol Power and Pure Kitchen and Bathroom Sprays advertised I thought they were worth a try as I do find the cleaners that foam more effective than just a regular surface cleanser especially if something has been spilled or left a mark. Using the spray is simple. You simply spray it onto work surfaces and then wipe it off (I use a piece of kitchen towel). The spray comes out of the bottle in a strong, solid stream and the product fizzes when coming in contact with the surface. Not much is needed as it expands when it foams up I usually use one spray per metre of work surface but you could use less. When wiping the spray off it comes off quickly and easily. It cuts through dirt and spillages really well. Both my partner and my Dad somehow manage to get sugar all over the worktop everytime they make a hot drink (don't ask me how!) and obviously this becomes very sticky. When using a regular surface cleanser this does take a lot of elbow grease to shift it but with this Dettol spray I simply wipe over the area a couple of times and it is gone. I have used this spray on worktops and also on my parents stainless steel sink and hob. I find that these are often difficult to keep clean however I am really impressed with this Dettol as it removes smudges and water marks quickly and easily and it does not leave the surface smeary. I really like this as when I do clean their kitchen it means I don't need lots of different products therefore making it quicker for me! When using the spray on work surfaces it leaves them very clean and also gives them a bit of a shine. And of course it kills 99.9% of bacteria which is always a bonus! The spray is available from supermarkets and retails at around £3 for 750ml. This is quite pricey in my opinion however Sainsbury's currently have a buy one get one free offer on which I will be taking advantage of in the next few days. I really like this product and would recommend it, especially if you can find it on offer. The spray is extremely easy to use and is quick to use, leaving surfaces hygienically clean and leaving the kitchen looking gleaming! Highly recommended.
