      Disadvantages

Really thick gel bleach from Domestos.

In my wardrobe I have a couple of pairs of special trousers and tops, these are known as my Sunday best and are liberally spattered with bleach stains! Working on boats in Spain the atmosphere is always damp and salty and trying to keep mildew away is a constant battle particularly in the Autumn when it can be very damp and humidity is frequently up around the 80% Bleach is in frequent use particularly for bleaching teak decks, canvas and vinyl seats hence my rather attractive outfits.

The trouble with bleach is that it splashes and I was very interested to try out a new product by Domestos which I spotted in my local Morrisons in Gibraltar, Domestos Grot Buster, super thick bleach cleaning gel. brilliant on the grime you can see and the germs you can't. Worth a try.

The packaging looks the business being made of matt black plastic The two flat sides make it easy to grip and there are two non/slip ridges on the neck so that you can hold it by the obdy or the neck. The nozzle which is protected bya child proof clear plastic top, is bright blue in colour and very narrow. The whole neck is slightly angled so that you can get into hard to reach places.

On the reverse the label says that the specially thick gel will dissolve even the toughest germ infested grot including mould,(hurrah), and is specially formulated to cling to vertical surfaces.

We are recommended to use neat and leave on for 5 minutes and then rinse well and reapply if needed. Use it to clean tile grouting but avoid coloured grout and decorated tiles. Use on dustbins, showers and any other hard to get to places

      Precautions.

Contains bleach, do not use on wood, old enamel. plated metal, aluminium, vinyl, linoleum, rubber, fabric or leather, letterings and symbols.always wipe up spillage and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Wash hands after use and keep only in the original container.

After reading these precautions I decided that this product would be best used cleaning inside areas and started by using it to clean bathroom sinks. The pointy end makes it easy to direct right round the taps and the thick clear gel really does a good job. Best of all it does not smell too bleachy. The gel froths a bit as you scrub and after a good rinse the sink is left sparkly clean and fresh smelling. It then solved another problem area for me which is the overflow in the kitchen and bathroom sinks. it is very difficult to get any product into these tricky ares this clean but again the thin nozzle did the trick and I was happy that the overflows were clean. I would buy it for these properties alone but it has also broughght an old ceramic casserole back to a state of sparkly white and cleaned up the grouting in the bathrooms.

I have also used it to remove mould on a high up difficult to get at cupboard. The back wall is made of plaster and, with the aid of step ladders, gloves and an extre long paint brush I managed to remove the mould. I squeezed the gel onto the paint brush and because it was so thick it didn't drip everywhere and coated the wall well with a bit of effort!

      My Opinion.

It's not as versatile as ordinary bleach but neither does it splash about so I think used appropriately it is a good buy and the nozzle is a great idea.I will definitely be buying this one again. It's a bit heavy duty but sometimes this is just what you need.

4 stars from me at around 2.00pounds it's a good addition to my cleaning cupboard.

As with all these products please keep away from eyes and do not swallow and follow the safety instruction on the bottle.

Thanks for reading my review which may aslo be posted on ciao under splishsplash.

Great product, i WILL be buying this (from £1 shop if i can!!)

This product is amazing. I bought it as i had some dark areas on the silicone seal around my bath and i'm selling my house so trying to make the place look its best.
I tried this and Oh my god! i LOVE it! i've used it practically everywhere in the bathroom and the angled applicator is brill doe getting in to grout on your tiles.

i'm not usually one to review products but i had to with this one!

Only problem is - where i left the product on the grout it drips slowly down the tile leaving slightly lighter marks (bleach stains) they looked white to me but this showed me the tiles needed a darn good scrub-a-dub too so again no complaints.

wouldnt be useful on larger areas but for under taps, grout, silicone and other grimy areas i think its brill. and reading that i can get it a £1 shop is even better!!!!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Works well and really recommended

Domestos Grot Buster is a powerful plastic bottle containing 500ml of grot busting gel that works at removing black mould. It really does remove it too in my opinion! It costs around £1.60 but I have found it cheaper in Home Bargains or Poundland or sometimes the supermarkets will have it on offer.

It has a child proof squeeze and grip top and an angled head so it is easy to aim it at different and difficult angles, such as the toilet bowl. As it is a gel and not a liquid, as such, which I actually personally really like, it manages to grab hold of the toilet bowl and stay there, making it get to work.

It has a pleasant smell, not too overpowering, though you can definitely detect a strong smell of bleach.

The bottle is strong and sturdy and easy to keep hold of even with wet hands. It is long lasting as you only need a little bit and it will last you a long time.

It is ueful for removing mould from bathroom ceramic tiles too I find, and you don't have to leave it for too long before you can see it starting to work at getting shot of the mould.

A tough, powerful product in a rather sinister looking balck bottle, but very much recommended and handy to have under the kitchen sink.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Not so great at clinging to the vertical surface!

I bought this about 2 years ago just after decorating my kitchen, the grout in the tiles looked grubby and the advert for this showed this product being used to whiten the grout in tiles.

I thought it would be a really thick bleach that clung to where ever it was placed but I was wrong. I think it's a bit of a gimmick as regular Domestos would have done the job exactly the same way.

This comes in a black bottle with a blue lid, the cap is child proof so needs a good squeeze to get it off. The nozzle is very slim on this and it will go onto the grouting in tiles easily but the actual bleach run down the tiles as regular bleach would.

It cleaned the tiles and the grout did look whiter but I don't think that was down to 'Grot Buster' Just down to the bleach!

I ended up using this as I would any normal bleach as I didn't think it was anything special.

It costs roughly £2 for a 500ml bottle.

The blurb for this is ~~
Domestos Grotbuster dissolves even the toughest germ infested grot, including mould. Specially formulated to cling to vertical surfaces.

Now I didn't find it clinging to anything and it ran down the tiles!

Just use an old toothbrush and normal bleach does the same job anyway.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        An excellent cleaner

When we first moved into this house, there was one heck of a lot of grot; we were expecting the bathroom in particular to grow legs and take off any time. My mum got this for me after having it recommended by someone at her work. Always being happy to try new cleaning products, I was quite excited - I'd seen the adverts and already decided I probably wouldn't buy Domestos as it's usually notably more expensive than elbow grease!

So we used it in the bathroom to get into all the little nooks and crannies, and to clean the tile grout. This is what I pulled it out for this morning, as I was giving my bathroom a thorough going over - you know it's Serious Business when the Domestos comes out. So this comes in a black 500ml plastic bottle, a similar shape to a regular bleach bottle, except it is thinner. This makes it easy to hold and apply the product in an accurate targeted way, as does the super thin nozzle (the opening is only approx 3mm). In theory anyway. It has a transparent child proof screw cap that fits over the nozzle but of course this should be kept out of sight and reach of children and it should be treated like bleach in terms of safety - use in well ventilated areas and take care to avoid eye contact and ingestion. It will also bleach your clothes!

The product itself is a clear, slightly yellow tinged gel that contains bleach - it looks like bleach, except it is thicker than the thickest bleach I have come upon. It is marketed to be thick enough to stay put on vertical surfaces, therefore giving the gel time to destroy mould and grime that gathers places like tile grout, shower cubicles and windows. It claims to be "brilliant on grime you can see, brutal on germs you cannot", so is it?

I found that although it is very thick, it still runs. It doesn't stay put on vertical surfaces at all, but it does run slower than anything else! When I use it on my grout lines, I squeeze some out at the top of a section of vertical grout and let it run slowly down. For the horizontal grout lines, I squeeze some out slightly above them as it does run down almost straight away after dispensing. The vertical lines are perfect, as it runs down it removes everything; the horizontal ones however, it just doesn't stay on them at all so I get a scourer sponge and foam it up, pushing the foam onto these areas; that stays put better.

I use these same actions regardless of what vertical surface I am using it on, with great results - this stuff really really does clean. I had a rather fetching line of black mould infested grout at the side of the shower casing, and by the time this had run down it it was just gone. Literally in seconds and with no scrubbing. I do scrub over it all though, after letting it sit for a few minutes, before rinsing it all off. his also cleans the main tile surfaces beautifully.

One thing to note, is that if there is any invisible-to-your-eyes dirt on your tiles then it will leave visible tracks as it runs down. So even if your tiles look perfectly clean, prepare to scrub a lot more than you thought you needed to because you may be surprised! I was planning to scrub the bath today anyway, but after doing the tiles surrounding it I had no choice as there were loads of tracks through dirt I could barely see.

It does smell slightly of bleach, but not as much as regular bleach. I realise that may sound a little silly, as this isn't plain bleach. But I know a lot of people will probably expect it to smell exactly like bleach and it may be off putting to those that can't stand that smell. I don't find the smell overpowering at all, it has a bit of freshness to it, underneath the hint of bleach.

Despite me having pernickety skin on my hands, I never use gloves when cleaning (except for Cillit Bang and oven cleaners) as they just hinder me and I find them so uncomfortable. Even though I had my hands covered in this for quite a while this morning, it didn't irritate it. It did dry them out and my hands felt parched, but that was all. I did rinse it off my hands and dry them thoroughly in between times it came into contact with me though.

Although this not actually as good as claimed (in my case) at sticking to vertical surfaces, it is incredibly good at dissolving grot and grime. It is far superior to thick bleach alone for this purpose and I have found a way to use it that works, so the fact it is runnier than I had expected doesn't really put me up nor down, though it is the reason it has lost out on full marks. Due to this, I also find it easy to waste some every time I use it (though my sponge foaming is a good way to reduce wastage).

When my mum got the bottle, it was relatively new out and was over £3 though I don't remember exactly. It is now available in Poundland though, so it is something I will buy when this bottle runs out. This isn't something I use often, as thankfully I don't need to, and when I do use it it's generally just in the bathroom, hence this bottle has lasted for over 2 years and is still half full! So definitely good value, whether you pay £1 for it or £3. Since it is a lot thicker than regular bleach, it is also good for using in the loo, though I don't do this regularly as I prefer to save this for where it's most useful. I defintely recommend this, but I would say don't expect it to perform mind blowing, gravity defying stunts!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

The only product I have tried that completely removes black mould growing along the sealant around the bath. I had previously tried HG mould remover, which I had to buy online and was expensive - however, despite numerous repeated applications it failed to remove all the mould. However, this Domestos product removed it in one hit. I must admit I applied it and then forgot about it, until about an hour later, when I was amazed to see every little of black had completely vanished. I suspect it is more effective than the HG product as it is very thick and stays stuck on the area where it has been applied, whereas the HG product is a fine liquid spray which tends to run off the area. It is also much cheaper than less effective products. Highly recommended - nothing compares.

An essential in the Spring cleaning arsenal

Apparently Spring is arriving, although you would be forgiven for having failed to notice. Certainly the April showers are here, and I've been getting this strange urge to start cleaning the house. I'm not talking about the usual skip around with the vacuum, mop and duster here. I'm thinking heavy weight blasting away the winter cobwebs. In Domestos language, I'm looking at "destroying the grot invasion."

Don't get me wrong, my home is not the front line in the war on grot. However, I do have a shower cubicle that every few months becomes a breeding ground for nasty black mould. It doesn't seem to matter how much day to day cleaning I do, the black stuff gradually starts to creep back around the seals and grouting. This is where Domestos Grot Buster comes in.

Grot Buster is effectively bleach. However, this isn't any standard bleach (which is probably why it isn't as cheap). Grot Buster is a thick, bleach gel, which is designed to stick to vertical surfaces. Domestos claim that it's "brilliant on the grime you can see, brutal on the germs that you cannot see."

Grot Buster comes in a 500 ml bottle. The cap has a child lock on it, but I still keep mine well out of my son's reach. Underneath the cap you find a narrow nozzle. This allows you to target your grot busting into smaller, out of the way corners - the kind of place that grot likes to gather. I find it really easy to apply Grot Buster down the grouting in the shower. You simply squeeze the bottle and apply the gel, and it really does stick to vertical surfaces. The instructions advise that you leave Grot Buster to set to work dissolving grot for 5 minutes, although I tend to leave it on longer for nasty black mould. You then wipe it off and rinse well. However, for heavy weight grot I would recommend a little scrub with an old tooth brush before wiping clean.

As with all bleach products, you need to take care to avoid contact with your hands and eyes. However, the gel is so thick and easy to apply, that I don't feel the need to wear gloves when using Grot Buster. Whilst Grot Buster does smell of bleach, it is not an overpowering smell.

The good news is that Grot Buster does destroy black mould, although the nasty stuff doesn't stay away for good. I've also tried it on the kind of grime that builds up around taps, and again it's good. However, it doesn't beat limescale, which is a shame in this very hard water area.

A 500ml bottle of Grot Buster will set you back about £1.99, although I have recently spotted it in the 99p shop. You don't need to use much for general grot slaying, so a bottle is likely to last a long time.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The best shower/bath cleaning product I have ever used.

My mother recommended Domestos Grot Buster as the shower/bath in my new flat was covered in black mould that just wouldn't budge. I found the product in my local supermarket for £1 so was quite unsure about how good it would really be as it was selling for so cheap.
I followed the recommended instructions which were very easy and simple:
Squirt onto affected areas using the handy tip which is good for getting the product into the corners of the shower/bath.
Leave for five minutes whilst the product gets to work, the black mould will vanish and you will be left with a sparkling shower/bath.
          Wash off with clean water.
Overall I was so impressed with this product; I did not believe that it would clean my shower/bath so well. Over the last six months I have only used one bottle of the product as the mould doesn't' seem to come back as often as it did. I recommended it to everyone, takes the hassle and effort out of cleaning the shower/bath.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Fantastic!

Another great product by Domestos, this new cleaning agent is an absolute must for anyone who likes to get their bathrooms sparkling brightly. It is designed to get rid of or 'bust', yes you guessed it, 'Grot'. Grot is the really annoying blackish mildew which forms between tiles on the grouting and in any joints in the bathroom shower area including taps and shower screens. It is notoriously difficult to remove and this is where standard cleaning products seem to fail. Bleach can remove grot, but standard Domestos and other bleaches are too thin to solve this problem, but the Grot buster is a specially designed product designed to remove it, in a super thick gel which can cling on to the mildew without a problem.

This specially designed bleach gel should be applied to the area affected by the grot and left for 5 minutes or more, the Grot Buster then slowly dissolves the mould in the area covered and once treatment is complete, just wipe or wash off the remaining gel. Be warned though, this is a strong bleach gel and can severely irritate your skin if it comes into direct contact, so your better off using some sort of rubber glove covering to avoid any problems. Domestos Grot Buster is not only designed to kill off mould, it is also an effective standard cleaning agent, killing most germs.

The Domestos Grot Buster can be bought in most supermarkets and comes in a 500ml recyclable plastic container. It costs around the £2.00 mark, currently at £1.93 in Tesco and lasts a very long time, well worth the price.

Overall, this is fantastic cleaning agent which can be used in both kitchens and bathrooms, as well as anywhere else you require. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone serious about keeping their house nice and clean. I give this product 5 stars out of 5. Well done Domestos!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A Great Cleaning Product!

I always use this when moving out of a flat or to a new location because this is the strongest bleach you can possibly come across. It's also the only one I know that will properly remove embedded mildew from the silicone coating on baths and showers.

I use it by applying it to areas that need to be cleaned. Wait five minutes and then shower it off. It can take a couple of attempts to achieve your goal of removing something, or a few more attempts but it will get there eventually in a way that other bleaches will fail to do. It also comes out of the bottle nice and slow from a nozzle that makes it easy to apply in general, but also to apply to specific areas , For example, if you're trying to remove a certain patch of lime scale.

Make sure you're in a well ventilated room when you use it. As a result of doing the job well it would seem, also requires to cut off all of your air supply in doing so, so it's best to make sure you have an escape route.

Also, while some people use bleach and quickly wash their hands afterwards as a precaution and get away with it, you can't afford to take the risk with this stuff. It really will tackle a good few layers of skin off due to its strength so make sure you've got adequate protection before using it.

Otherwise it's a great product for all of the heavy duty cleaning that needs to be done.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

It's a great cleaner with a good price, nothing can beat it apart from industrial products.

I started using Grotbuster about 4 months ago, reading about it's powerful cleaning action and ability to cling to vertical surfaces.

Grotbuster comes in a black, imposing bottle, giving it a different image from other cleaners, I can normally pick it up around £2 or close to it at most superstores and a bottle normally lasts me about 2-3 weeks.

The attractive thing about Grotbuster is how powerful it is, you can go around the edge of the bath with it, covering any mould or black spots, it also works well on tile grout, and although the bottle says not to, I leave it on overnight. The next morning, wherever you put Grotbuster, it comes out shining white, even without scrubbing. It's so powerful it will make your tile grout look like new, black spots around the bathroom will literally dissapear and it also acts as a good toilet cleaner and disinfectant.

I think this is one of the best bathroom and mould cleaners around, really showing a difference after only a night and that's why I will continue to use it over and over, it gives great results for the same price as many other cleaners that don't perform as well.

              The best bleach ever

I first saw grot buster advertised on the TV and thought it looked great and had to try it out. I saw it in tesco on special offer for only £1 and thought I'll try it out for myself and I have to say I have not been disappointed.

The grot buster is a very thick bleach which eliminates almost any stains but because it is so thick you do feel like you need wear a nose peg. However, it is so easy to use and dissolves most stains without any work. It great in the kitchen but fantastic in the bathroom. I used to find it so difficult trying to scrub mould off between the tiles and around the edges of the bath but with grot buster you just need to put it on, leave if for 5 minutes and rinse away. It's that easy!

I also use the grot buster in my kitchen sink which is white and plastic. I find that after a few weeks with different bits being poured down the sink it looses it's whiteness so I just put grot buster over the stains, leave it, rinse it away and my kitchen sink is white again.

I would and do recommend the grot buster to anyone, it is so easy to use, store and can make a big difference in the bathroom and kitchen. It's the only bleach for me.

Use this when all else fails!

I was introduced to this product by a colleague after mentioning I was having trouble cleaning the grout around my shower tiles, no matter what I used or how hard I scrubbed it still looked stained.

I was slightly put off by the price (£1 for 500ml, the normal bleach I buy is always on offer at 2 for £1 at 750ml per bottle) but after being told that it would do the job I decided to try some.

I think the black packaging with the blue label makes it look a bit like it will work magic and I can see how the makers are trying to draw people to it on the shelf, being black and bright blue it really stands out!

The instructions recommend you apply this and leave it for 5 minutes then rinse off, so I duly did this to my shower grout. When rinsing off I did find that I needed to scrub a little to get rid of the gel, as this is a very thick product.

Lo and behold, my grout was white again! This certainly does the job for those areas you are having trouble getting clean with the usual cleaning products, it really is a 'grotbuster'!

I was also getting some orange water mark stains around the toilet bowl, so I put a bit of this down there and when I came to srub it off with my toilet duck brush the orange stains had come clean!

This is one of those products I will definitely be keeping in my 'reserve' cleaning stash for those jobs where all else fails. Due to the price ans sheer strength of this bleach I would not use it unless nothing else worked.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                One try is enough

I saw the TV adverts for Domestos GROT BUSTER, it looked really tough on toilet germs, so when I saw it in my local Morrison's store at £1.79 for a 500ml bottle I thought I'd try it.

When I squirted it in the toilet, it seemed thicker than its competitors. It does not have any particular smell or fragrance, which for some people might be a good thing, but I prefer a fresh smell. I would normally use bleach or gel cleaner. The clear gel/liquid does the job fairly well in much the same way as any other toilet cleaning product.

The trouble is, it is very thick and therefore does not cover the toilet bowl that well. So I am not convinced that it is that efficient if you just squirt and leave without brushing.

The other thing I did not like about this product is the peculiar packaging. The plastic bottle is very narrow which seems to be an advantage when you buy it, but after a few uses, it seems to collapse inwards. You then need more and more brute force to squirt out the contents. This collapse effect increases with use so that the bottle looks as if it will fall of the shelf at any minute. This is not good for what is effectively a bleach product. I probably won't use this particular Domestos product again .
