      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A great, great house product!

Staying in a house with three dogs, at times cane be a pure nightmare. For all the reasons we are given to love them on the same hand you can find reasons to not have pets (until they look at you of course lol!).

I am staying with a mate at the moment which means we split the cleaning and general chores between us. However the one bain of my life was dirty floors. Along with humongous amount of dog hair and bits that they bring in, they leaves smells that are not mentionable and paw prints everywhere and my mate having lino and tiled floor surfaces mean the mess really is in your face!

I've never bothered with floor soap before. At home (I usually live with my parents) Mum uses a bit of Flash or something in hot water and we find that to do a great job, but saying that Mum cleans all the time and only has one very pampered pooch called Zach who is a Yorkie. I tried that on my mates floors and it did nothing really and the floors remained looking just as grubby than before I started on them!

So off I popped to Asda and me, well I like environmentally friendly options of products if I can get them though I won't pay out shed loads more for the privilege but will try and do my bit if and when I can!

This is a range I am aware of. I've used a few of their products in the past and have rather rated them highly so when I saw this and priced at £3.20 in Asda I decided I'd get it and see if it sorted out the house.

I was somewhat dubious about buying this though if I'm honest with you. Of late their anti animal testing rules have become under scrutiny and though I want to protect the environment, I still don't want to buy products tested on animals if I can at all help it. On some Ecover products it does say not tested on animals and on some it does not and I have read alot of comments online about this brand and researched into their policy...which is actually rather unclear.

      The Packaging:

You get 1 litre or product in a see through plastic and tall bottle that has a plastic Orange screw on/off cap/lid to the top of it. On the front of the bottle I am told that it is Ecological Floor Soap With Natural Linseed Oil, Ecover 'Cares And Protects' and that it's for people who care' and that it is based on plant and mineral ingredients and harnesses the power of nature and there is a picture of a leaf on there. Other information on the back of the bottle includes being told a bit about the product, instructions for use are given as are ingredients and warnings, the size is stated (as I've listed already) and contact details for Ecover are given. It's a nice enough and simple bottle that is very informative, easy enough to handle etc.

A Bit About The Product According To The Information Listed On The Back Of The Bottle:

      Cleans floors effectively and quickly
Excellent natural floor care and protection against staining
      Not petrochemical based ingredients
      No residue of unnecessary chemicals
Optimum level of biodegradability - far exceeds legislative requirements
Against animal testing (though no we are not told on the bottle that they don't!)
      Also suitable for septic tanks

      Using It:

Well this product is absolutely excellent and that's for someone who had their reservations when even buying it due to reading it contains linseed oil which I thought may be a greasy and get the dogs skating on floors like it was an ice skating rink or summat!

It is a orangy coloured, transparent liquid and contains very little fragrance really. If you take a long hard sniff of it it does have a sort of sweet smell to it but that smell isn't overbearing and is indeed very fresh and light and rather natural.

To use this you simply add one or two capfuls of it to about 5L of warmish water. You can use a floor cloth, mop or scrubbing brush and it's suitable for all non-treated floors such as tiles, marble, concrete and linoleum.

I always add a couple of capfuls and find no need to use a scrubbing cloth or anything else that requires elbow grease because quite simply it works for me with no effort required!

It blends with water in an unsoapy way. I simply soak a mop in it, squeeze out the water of course and wipe away to my hearts content. It picks up dirt, grease and grime with perfect ease, even stubborn marks and real deep down ingrained dirt. It refreshes the area cleaned too with a nice subtle and indistinctive aroma and drys in it's own time which really isn't long at all. When dry where I have cleaned really is clean and looks it too. It leaves a nice ungreasy sheen to places and all round is just brilliance and makes my cleaning up a doddle. What's more cos you don't need very much of it at all I have found this a really economical product to use.

It leaves my mates house fresh and smelling nice! I love it! Shame that Ecovers animal testing policies are so under scrutiny because I like it so much but am unsure whether I should buy it again.

Expect to pay about £3.20 for a 1 litre size of this and about £14.00 for a 5 litre size in places like Asda and Homebase.
