Advantages: Effective, aromatic and has more uses than cleaning dishes!
Disadvantages: Can be expensive when not on offer :~(
Reason For Purchase ~ "Got more time for misbehavin' since I started microwaving"!
I purchased this product for three reasons. I have been a fan of the quality of Fairy products for decades. The washing up liquid was on offer and I love the smell of fruits such as apples and limes :~)
The Product ~ "Need some time to be alone? Try washing the dishes"!
The product comes in a sturdy plastic clear curved bottle that displays the rich lime colour of its contents well. With a bright poppy red flick top nozzle and same shade block caps 'Fairy' title, there is no mistaking this brand means business! :~) Gone is its familiar white plastic oblong bottle for over a decade now, though it did reappear for a brief time to mark its fiftieth anniversary early 2010.
Under the item's instruction's notes, www.tesco.com advise on "Handcare: after use, rinse your hands and dry them thoroughly. As for all detergents, if you have damaged or sensitive skin, avoid prolonged contact with the liquid and washing solution".
Part of the liquid's components includes 15-30% Anionic Surfactants. According to
http://www.elementis.com/esweb/esweb.nsf̴ 3;/pages/surfactants-Anionic Surfactants under the heading "Anionic Surfactants ~PHOSPHATE ESTERS: Phosphate esters are anionic surfactants which are produced by phosphation of (ethoxylated) aliphatic or aromatic alcohols...Compared to other phosphate esters offer specific advantages, including stability over a broad pH range, good solubility and corrosion inhibiting properties. Phosphate esters are highly suitable to use as emulsifying agents, wetting agents, anti-statics, corrosion inhibitors and hydrotropes in cleaning formulations".
My Usage Experience ~ "Dish of the day"
I do not wear rubber gloves when washing my dishes, though it is wise to wear such protective items if you suffer from skin conditions; this is a very concentrated liquid that could easily flare up certain conditions!
I generally begin my cleaning routine by scraping all food debris from the dishes etc., No matter how good a washing up liquid is, it cannot unclog or magic away such fragments from the dish water! :~) I then quickly organize the dirty dishes into stacks of plates, cutlery, pots and so forth.
I then fill the washing up bowl with hot water, while running I squirt a good measure of the liquid, around 3 tsp. Even although this liquid is highly concentrated I still prefer an ample amount to furnish plenty of soapy bubbles and cleansing action. To disperse the thick coalesced liquid I like to pop the cold tap briefly on and froth the water with my hand. The liquid distributes very quickly producing wonderfully aromatic foam. At this point I cannot detect the lime over the refreshing scent of apple. It is at this point that I put a small amount, around a teaspoon of washing up liquid into each pot, pan and other cookware I have used and fill with hot water. This gives them plenty of time to soak while I wash the cutlery and crockery.
There is no doubts in my mind with regards to the effectiveness of this product but I certainly notice that its cleaning capabilities, especially with cutting through grease is lessened by the cooler the water. Therefore, I only wash drinking glasses and similar in cooler water and keep all other crockery, cutlery and cookware in as hot as water as I can comfortably wash with.
I tend to wash cutlery first; these are put in the hot water whilst it is running in preparation for the task of washing up. By the time the bowl is filled and the foam has accumulated, I find the cutlery very easy in washing. Any food residues are generally already dissolved due to the quick cleaning action of the liquid combined with the hot water. A brief rinse under hot water removes any of the fluid and is left with a gleaming shine on the stainless steel. I then leave the cutlery to dry upright in a clean container. The process I use affords a quick drying time and streak free shine. This detergent works well in enhancing the appearance of the most tired of kitchen tools!
Next to be washed are the crockery, including cups which are generally next to go in the bowl. I use a scour pad with a droplet of the detergent to remove stubborn stains like tea on cups and mugs. I haven't found a stain yet that cannot be removed using this product and the light scour side of the sponge. Plates are no problem either for this efficient cleaning agent. As long as the water is a high temperature, the agent used with a sponge or dish cloth removes any food substance. I finish the chore of washing crockery by rinsing off in clean hot water. I never need to dry the plates with a tea towel as the hot water effects the crockery's drying time, much like how a dish washer has on items. As soon as I have completed the cookware, such as pots and pans, the cutlery and crockery are ready to pack away without using a tea cloth, which in turn lessens the bacteria effects of such!
I normally clean wooden utensils and alike in a fresh bowl of clean soapy water using the scour side of the sponge to ensure all ingrained debris is removed. I tend to give these items a longer rinse under hot water to ensure all residues of detergent is removed and then leave to dry next to the boiler to guarantee a very quick drying time which will promote the sanitizing effects furnished by the detergent and hot water.
I change the water as needed during the task of washing up. When I have completed the job of washing all items, I then empty the hot water combined with detergent into the sink. Using the scour side of the sponge and a few droplets of the detergent I begin to wash the stubborn marks off the cookware. As excellent as the solvent is, I find soaking these dishes a short while beforehand crucial in removing grease and cooking debris quickly almost without any effort. I finish off the task by again rinsing the soap suds off with running hot water from the tap. The results are superb. The liquid leaves the cookware very shiny and beautifully clean.
The results of washing up with this Fairy liquid are excellent. The dishes, cutlery and cookware are never left with any remnants of food debris or grease. In fact, the only time there may be something left is water marks! I am thrilled with the clean, sparkling and shiny results left through using this product. I even use the liquid to clean the draining board, taps and sink. A few drops on the sponge with a little hot water remove grease and grime around the sink, taps and stainless steel draining board. A quick rinse with hot water and finishing off by drying the surfaces with a soft dry cloth leaves the areas clean and sparkling bright. There are many other areas I use the detergent on but I feel that as the product is noted as 'washing up liquid' I will leave it there! :~)
Recommend ~ Ditch Not "Dish The Dirt"
Absolutely! This is such an effective tool in cleaning without too much effort. The detergent gives faultless results every time I use it. The fragrance is gorgeous and makes the task of washing dishes a little more pleasurable! :~)
I would only reiterate that if the consumer does have skin sensitivities, it is wise to adopt the use of gloves as a protection against the concentrated ingredients of the fluid. I have dry skin so I tend to rinse and dry my hands thoroughly after use and pop on some hand lotion after using the liquid and this works well in protecting my skin from irritation.
I generally only purchase Fairy Wash Up Liquid when it is on offer but the Fairy Wash Up Liquid Apple and Lime 450 Ml it is currently available at Tesco's online and in store for £1.02p
Please note I have not corrected any words from the quotes! :~)
Thank you for taking the time to read my review, I hope you found it beneficial.
