“ Brand: Fairy / Type: Washing Up Liquid / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
Since doing my review on Tesco Washing Up Liquid I have since finished the bottle and reverted back to my old and loyal favourite, Fairy. Now even though I found Tesco washing up liquid to be really useful and effective I was recently in my local Wilkinsons where they had Fairy Pure Clean with Antibacterial Action washing up liquid on offer and not one to miss a bargain I bought a few bottles. There was a variety of different aromas but I opted for Lime and Lemongrass as I love sharp citrus scents.
** What Fairy Say **
"New Fairy Pure Clean with Antibacterial Actions has been specifically created to bring you the balance of Fairy Liquid's cleaning performance with natural herb and citrus extracts.
Fairy Pure Clean with Anti-Bacterial Action is available with the additional benefit of controlling the growth of germs on sponges and cloths and is endorsed by the Royal Institute of Public Health."
** Packaging **
The washing up liquid comes in a clear bottle (easy to see how much you have left!) which is slightly oval in shape and has a plastic flip top lid. On the front of the bottle is the famous Fairy red logo together with the little baby logo. On the back is the usual info about ingredients and contact information.
** Use **
Obviously using washing up liquid is pretty simple! For me I just pour it under warm running water straight into my washing up bowl. I have found that you only need to use a really small amount to get a large amount of white bubbles! I think you actually get too many bubbles as it can then take most of the time rinsing the dishes, glasses etc off as you don't want them left with water marks.
The aroma of lime and lemongrass is incredibly subtle and isn't as strong when you first smell the washing up liquid but even the subtle aroma doesn't stay around for long unlike the bubbles!
Obviously using a small amount will make the bottle last for a long time and I know from previous use of Fairy that my bottle lasts a lot longer than most brands even Tesco, as with that one you did need to keep using quite a bit. I've found that Fairy Pure Clean can get through most things such as a lasagne dish or a cottage pie dish and I very rarely have to let anything soak before tackling it! My glasses are all left sparkling clean and water mark/ streak free which can sometimes be hard when washing them by hand. I don't have any complaints with Fairy Pure Clean at all, I've been using my bottle for a few weeks now and I haven't even used a quarter of it.
** Varieties **
I chose Lime and Lemongrass but Fairy Pure Clean with Antibacterial Action is also available in Pink Grapefruit/ Garden Mint and Eucalyptus extracts.
** Cost & Availability **
Fairy Pure Clean with Antibacterial Action is available at all good supermarkets and various discount stores such as B&M and Wilkinsons. Cost of a bottle does vary but currently in Tesco a bottle costs £1.50 which I think is slightly expensive compared to other brands but as a bottle outlasts the cheaper brand which makes a bottle of Fairy much better value.
** Overall **
A great lasting washing up liquid which really does the job on those hard to scrub dishes and provides sparkling clean glasses and cutlery. I don't have any complaints about this washing up liquid as a bottle really does last a long time making your money go further. The scent is lovely and subtle which is nice and refreshing. Overall, a great product from a very well known company.
The times I have seen this washing up liquid but never tried it. I just had not got around to buying it for some reason. I do buy the cheaper brands of washing up liquid but I love the branded ones too and so do not know why this one I had not been tried before until recently.
It comes in a clear plastic bottle with a flip lid, and for 433ml it was priced at just £1.50 for one or £2.50 for 2 because it was on special offer when I bought it from Asda but most supermarkets stock this one. The liquid is a very good texture, it is a smooth liquid, which is quite thick, it has a really nice fragrance that is not overpowering, I do not mind my liquids to have a strong fragrance as I use washing up liquid for various other chores around the home and in my garage etc.
This one has a smell that is kind of fresh and I can smell the Lime and Lemon but it is not too strong, I think it is just the right amount of fragrance for a washing up liquid and it is not too over powering, it rinses very well and the dishes and glasses etc do not smell of perfume after they have been washed, which is just how I like them to smell.
It cleans my dishes nicely for my liking and it is very easy to rinse from the dishes and cutlery etc. I find the smell does not linger on them when they have dried and so no after taste is on them at all. My glasses do sparkle after using this one and they are left also just as clean. I love the amount of bubbles that this liquid creates. It is just the right amount and only a little is needed to do the job.
I do like the colour of this one which is a very pale green colour. I like the transparent bottle so I know when I am running a little low on liquid, although I always buy in advance so that does not happen but with some bottles you just cannot see if it is low or not but they are usually the cheaper ones and it is expected for the price.
The quality is very good and worth the price and it does last a very long time. It is a very well know brand and has been around for many years and is very reliable brand. I highly recommend this one for people to try and to buy it when it is available on special offer as it often can be and to save money. It is also good value for the price too and extremely good quality.
I rate this one 5 stars.
Although most things end up in my dishwasher, there are certain pots, pans and glasses that I really do need to wash by hand so I always need to have some washing up liquid on standby. I've always tended to use Fairy as I think it is good quality and the consistency of the liquid is far superior to many cheaper brands. I generally just use Fairy Original but my husband went shopping last week and came back with the lime and lemon grass variety instead so I was interested to see what that was like.
This comes in the familiar shaped transparent squeezy Fairy bottle which is recyclable so don't just going throwing it in the bin when it is empty! It contains 433 ml of an attractive light green fairly runny liquid - much as you would expect really! IF you sniff the top of the bottle it smells very pleasant but not too overpowering and that is the same effect once it has created a sink full of soapy suds.
One of the things that I like about this product is that you only need to give the bottle a tiny squirt in order to create a whole bowl of thick soapy suds. This is so much better than some of the thinner liquids which makes it worth paying that little bit extra for. Cleaning wise it does a really good job on all manner of items but particularly on the harder to shift baked on stains. I have a casserole dish that always ends up caked in all manner of burnt on food and at the moment, after using this washing up liquid, it is gleaming! It doesn't leave a residue on plates and cups etc, and everything ends up looking sparkling clean! I also never use rubber gloves when washing up and I have to say that after using this my hands feel soft and not irritated at all.
Because you hardly need to use any liquid per wash, one of the great things about the Fairy lime and lemon grass liquid is that it will last a very long time even if you are using it every day. This is particularly so because the bubbles seem to be quite long lasting which means there is less need to empty the water and start again quite so often. That is unless you have just washed something really mucky of course!
The lime and lemon grass liquid costs £1.50 per bottle in Sainsburys (November 2010) which works out at £3.46 per litre. This actually makes it more expensive than some of the other Fairy Washing up liquids and although I do like it I'm not sure that it's worth paying that bit more for! Well, times are hard! So overall, although I like this I will probably stick to Fairy Original (which you can get in a larger size) unless I happen to spot this on special offer!
I bought a couple of the Fairy antibacterial washing up liquids while they were on special offer. I usually use the regular Fairy and thought that ones with added antibacterial protection would be a bonus. After using the first one however (the grapefruit and garden mint) I was not impressed. I found that it was more watery than the original and that the cleaning power was not so good. Due to this, I wasn't really thrilled about the prospect of trying the lime and lemongrass version I'd bought at the same time.
The product is like any other washing up liquid but has an anti-bacterial action to make it more hygienic. It also says that you can use it to disinfect your sponge after use by putting one or two squirts of this onto the sponge then squeezing.
The washing up liquid comes in a bottle like the one pictured, and the shape of it is standard to the Fairy brand. It has an easy to open flip top cap and you can see the lime green coloured liquid through the bottle.
When it came to using this I was happy to find that it has quite a thick consistency. The original Fairy is really thick, so I had been disappointed when using the grapefruit and garden mint variety to find it was like water. This lime and lemongrass version sits somewhere between the two.
I love lime scented products so thought I would love the smell of this, but the reality was that I could hardly smell it when I was using it. To be honest, even in the bottle the smell is not very strong, but if I take the lid off, I can smell the definite scent of limes.
In terms of cleaning power I found this to be excellent, and just what I would expect from the Fairy brand. A small amount goes a long way, meaning this bottle has already lasted me much longer than the pink version. It produces a good amount of bubbles and it cuts through grease and leaves glass and cutlery sparkling. It's good on dried on stains too, although they will need to be soaked a little while first as I found last week when I had pasta bake two nights in a row!
One thing I can't really comment on is if it's gentle on the skin as I have eczema prone hands and always wear rubber gloves for washing up.
A 450 ml bottle of this costs £1.48 from ASDA. That is a bit extra compared to other brands but I find you need a lot less than you do with the cheaper ones. Also I find Fairy to regularly be on special offer, so I tend to wait for these and then stock up.
Overall, I am really pleased with this product. I wasn't expecting a great deal following the disappointment of the first fragrance I tried in the anti-bacterial range, but I'm pleased to say this does everything I'd expect of a Fairy product.
I am a bargain hunter, more so recently since my cat is not too well and vet fees are quite high and so when I saw this liquid on special offer I bought 2 as it made sense for a well known brand and I bought them for only £1 for a 450ml bottle and I had never tried this one before and so thought I would give it a try as I love Fairy products as they are usually very good ones.
It comes in a transparent plastic bottle which can be recycled and has a flip back top, and inside it is a lime green coloured thick liquid, the liquid is a very good quality and it pours beautifully from the bottle and only a small amount is needed with this one because it is quite thick, there is a mild lime and lemon smell to it and it does not have that clinical smell like some others do and this one is an antibacterial and so kills germs perfectly and the combination of the lime and lemon is gorgeous.
It lathers very well and rinses perfectly, it has lots of bubbles that last for a very long time and do not fizzle as I have found with some other brands, this one does very well indeed.
The dishes do not have a smell of lime and lemon on them and so they do not have any after taste, which for me is very good and the liquid last such a long time as only the small amount is needed, which then also saves me money as with some of the other ones, they tend to need much more to wash the dishes.
It leave them nice and shiny with a really nice sheen and smell and I always just leave mine to drain on the drainer.
I have used this to clean my stainless steel sink in the kitchen and it has cleaned it to perfection and the smell has been a nice pleasant one.
I soak my dish clothes in a little of this in the sink over night and in the morning they smell nice and fresh and also clean too.
What I really like about this bottle is it is nice and slim and it is easy to hold, it is not at all bulky and it is a pear shaped bottle and so thinner to place into my cleaning cupboard when not in use, and if it is left on the work top it looks quite attractive, unlike some more bigger bulkier ones.
The texture of the liquid is really soft and it glides over the dishes perfectly and I have used it to soak some of my burned pans, which I often have lol, and after a few hours the burned on food has rinsed away to leave a clean pan again lol and it cuts into the grease on dishes and removes it with no problem at all.
I recommend this one for anyone to give it a try as I do not think you would be disappointed and look out for those special offers too as it can save you lots of money for a very good quality washing up liquid in my opinion.
I will be buying this one again for sure.
I generally try to avoid washing up at all costs, it is one of my most hated household jobs and completely messes up my hands. Subsequently I have a dishwasher but in the last few weeks it has not been washing as well as it should. I have been left with things coming out not clean and some of the glasses seem to have like a dried on scum on them.... revolting.
I have used various products to clean my dishwasher and it is now much better but I have had to face facts - that it is simply better to wash some things by hand. I have always been a big fan of Fairy washing up liquid, it just gets the job done without too much effort. Every now and then I try a cheaper brand and am always disappointed with the results. It just proves to be false economy because you end up using a huge amount just to get things clean whereas a bottle of Fairy will last me for ages.
I was in need of a new bottle of Fairy this week and decided to stock up. I scanned the shelves for the different varieties and the one that jumped out at me was the Fairy Lime and Lemongrass Anti-bacterial. The 450ml bottle cost £1.49 and it was the yellow/limey colour that really appealed. I love the smell of lime and I was hoping this would make the washing up experience more tolerable.
Once home I had washing up to be done, so squirted some into the sink and added hot water. The water produced the most amazing bubbly foam straight away and I had really only added a little bit. The smell was also really pleasant - very fresh and it also smelt very clean.
The best bit though was how fantastically this product got my dirty dishes clean. It really did the job with only minimum effort on my part and left my glasses sparkly clean. It also worked it's magic on grease and really dirty saucepans.
I think this is fantastic product and I will deifinately be buying this one again. I still hate washing up but at least it smells good now.
Although we have a dishwasher it's fairly old now & I've found sometimes that it 'misses' some grease or 'bits' on the baking trays, crockery, cutlery etc which means I need to reach for my washing-up liquid & tackle by hand.
I've used all sorts of liquids over the years ranging from the very cheap to the expensive & found varying results. Some of the cheaper brands have been watery & smelt nasty whilst others have either produced not enough/too many bubbles & left a residue behind despite thorough rinsing.
I have to say that I've finally learned that it's no use skimping on washing-up liquid so I always buy Fairy now when I see it on offer. I stocked up before Christmas when Tesco had a promotion & 2 x 450ml bottles were on sale for £2. I chose the Original ones & thought I'd give the Lime & Lemongrass one a try as well.
The plastic bottle is a good size & is easy to grip with wet/soapy hands because of its design which is moulded. It has a flip-top lid which is easy to open & close so you don't find excess dripping down the sides.
The label on the front proudly shows our Fairy friend & is clearly marked 'antibacterial action', 'by appointment to HM...etc', & a circle depicting 'the royal institute of public health' certificate. On the reverse of the bottle the label tells me it's '100% recyclable where systems exist' & it gives full directions for use along with ingredients & the usual cautions about eyes etc.
I was a bit concerned about how this would smell (having bought it online) & not being too keen on lemony smells on dishes etc but I found this really nice. Although you can smell the lime & lemongrass it doesn't seem as strong as the lemon ones & I found it didn't linger on plates, cutlery, glasses etc.
I only needed to use 1 squirt of liquid in a medium-sized washing-up bowl to obtain a good bubbly mix & it made a good job of removing stubborn bits & grease requiring very little effort from me. It also rinses off very easily & I must say that I'm very pleased with the results I've had.
- easy to use.
- seems comparatively expensive but you only need a little per bowl.
- lovely smell which isn't too strong.
- rinses off easily.
- does a good job removing grease & 'bits'
- recommended especially if you see it on offer.
