      Good but expensive

A little while ago we chose these dishwasher tablets over our usual store brand, as we were tempted by whatever special offer was on at the time. I can't remember how much we paid for them, but they were great value - I never pay full price for dishwasher tablets and just tend to go with whatever is on offer. They currently retail at £5 for a pack of 26 in Asda, working out at 19.2p each. Fairy is a brand I trust, so I had faith in these tablets to perform well. The product description describes them as having "Fairy cleaning power, glass protection, metal shine, rinse aid action and salt action". It also says they are an "all in one dishwasher tablet with liquid power". I presume this means you don't need to use separate rinse aid and salt, but as we only used one packet of these, we already had rinse aid and salt in the dishwasher from previous uses. The tablets are individually wrapped, and there is no need to unwrap them before placing in the dishwasher. This makes them ultra-convenient, although you do have to take care that your hands are dry before touching them, otherwise it can make a bit of a mess. They are supposed to be stored in an airtight container, and we bought them in a pouch with a re-sealable lid. Admittedly, laziness meant that we didn't always bother to close the lid after taking one out, but this never hindered the performance of the tablet. These tablets perform excellently, although we have had similar success with non-branded tablets since having our new dishwasher installed, as it seems to out-perform our previous one. That aside, I am impressed with these tablets, as they never seemed to leave any stains or cloudy marks on the dishes, even when washed on the lowest temperature. This means you get good results, but without using too much energy, and you can use the shortest cycle to get your dishes cleaned sooner. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the smell of these tablets. That's not to say the smell wasn't pleasant, but that I never really noticed it. I couldn't really smell anything from the pouch, or in the dishwasher after the dishes had been done. This surprised me because part of the marketing of this product is the unique smell "tangerine and ginger flower", but to be honest I'm not really bothered about the smell as long as the dishes smell clean. Which they did. Overall, I am impressed with these dishwasher tablets, and would probably buy them again if they were on offer, but I wouldn't pay full price for them as in my opinion the only benefit to these is that you don't have to unwrap them. Other, less expensive dishwasher tablets perform equally well in our household. (Review may also appear on Ciao under the username Gingerkitty)
