We recently bought a new dishwasher and I absolutely love it. I have never had a dishwasher before as I thought I could live without one but now I will never give it back, how did I go so long without one, its amazing, saves me so much time and washes my dishes really well, way better than I can do them by hand. The cleaning powder we use in our dishwasher are these tablets from Finish. They are called a Finish power ball and are said to have Ultra shine technology and Quantum amazing shine and clean. The tabs come in a plastic bag of 30 and on the back of the bag it says, " Finish quantum delivers outstanding cleaning and contains Ultra shine technology to actively fight watermarks and cloudy spots for an amazing clean and shine. It has a unique gel power ball and a powerful detergent to soften even the toughest stains so they can be washed away." Its so funny because when I decided to write this review it was because I was really impressed with the shine I got from these tablets. Even from day one of cleaning, my silver pots and pans especially, had such a shine to them that I decided to write this review to say how pleased I was with the tablets. That's before I read on the bag that they have shine technology so it goes to show that it really does work. The pans literally sparkle and are amazingly clean, much cleaner than when the pan is new for some reason and all the old dirt and lines that you can't get off with regular washing has just disappeared. My cups are also amazingly clean too. You know you have old tea cups that have a ring of old tea in the bottom that doesn't come off with regular scrubbing, well these have disappeared from all my cups and the insides are sparkling! There is no wrapper on these tabs so basically all you do is take the tab out of the bag and pop it into the little casing in the dishwaher. The tab is in a plastic shell which obviously breaks down with the heat and hot water in the dishwasher. On one side of the tab are white washing powder granules and on the other side are blue washing powder granules. In the middle is a red power ball. After the wash is finished there is no sign of this tab, no powder remmnents and no little ball either so this obviously breaks down in the wash too. The pack of 30 usually costs £10 but at the moment Sainsburys are selling them for £6.
I managed to get a free sample pack of 10 tablets in a resealable pack last week from Finish's website. At the time of writing this review, the cost of a 20 pack of Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets is: Sainsburys - £4.00 Asda - £5.00 Tesco - £7.65 Waitrose - £7.65 Ocado - £7.65 As I do most of my shopping at Asda, I always tend to buy the Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets at Asda. The Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets are absolutely amazing. The plates had no watermarks or cloudy spots when they came out of the dishwasher after the clean and only one tab is required per wash. If it doesn't fit in the tab compartment, you can place the tablet at the bottom of the dishwasher. The tablets should always be handled with dry hands. I always use Finish brand products for the dishwasher because whatever is in the dishwasher comes out shining. The Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets contain a powerful detergent and it gets all the tough stains of the cutlery and plates. The Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets should be kept away from heat and moisture so that they don't become damaged and become less effective. I would definitely recommend that you use the Finish Powerball Quantum Dishwasher Tablets as they are of excellent quality and they are good value for money!
Like most people, my method of grocery shopping these days consists of looking for brightly marked offers, and spending a bit longer comparing the prices of all the alternatives to make sure I get best value for money. Last time I went to Morrisons, these dishwasher tablets were on offer, making them better value than Morrisons own-label dishwasher tablets! I can't remember exactly how much we paid but it was a bargain. According to the Tesco website, at full price these cost £10.20 for 30, which I would NEVER pay for dishwasher tablets. At that price, I'd expect someone to come and load the dishwasher for me, and get on top of my ironing whilst they're at it. The variety we ended up with were the lemon scented ones. The tablets came in a box, although looking online they also come in bags depending where you buy them. The box had a plastic lid which it stated on the packaging was really important to keep closed to keep the tablets fresh. They are individually wrapped with a clear cover, and you pop them in your dishwasher compartment as they are, so there's no messing with fiddly wrappers. It also states on the packaging that they should only be handled with dry hands, otherwise they might disintegrate before they reach the dishwasher. Finish have a very good reputation with dishwashing products, and claim to be recommended by dishwasher manufacturers. I must admit, with some of the cheaper tablets, I do notice that sometimes we have to put things through the dishwasher a couple of times to get them fully clean, and I was confident that this wouldn't happen with Finish. Although I'd never pay full price for them, I know they are probably better for my dishwasher, and that they have better cleaning capabilities. **The Science Bit** The marketing for Finish is quite powerful, with the following just some of the claims they make on their products: "Unique gel powerball" "Ultra shine technology" "Powerful detergent" "No 1 recommended by renowned dishwasher manufacturers" "High efficiency formula" The Finish tablets are unmistakable with the blue tablet containing a red ball in the middle of it. They are supposedly unique in that the tablet has 8 different actions which give perfect results. These are: a powerful clean, salt function, rinse aid function, tea stain removal, grease cutting, machine limescale protection, wrapper free, and amazing shine. It isn't made clear whether the salt and rinse aid function are in place of the usual salt and rinse aid you'd use, so we have carried on using ours as normal. However, it is good to know, when these start running low, the tablets contain salt and rinse aid as this should prevent the quality of cleaning being hindered, as sometimes happens with the cheaper tablets. **The Results** I am confident in saying that these dishwasher tablets do in fact live up to their claims. Since using these, we have not once had to wash anything by hand, or put things through the dishwasher twice due to food or stains being left on crockery. These tablets have dealt with things such as casserole dishes which had food left on them for a couple of days (in our defence, there's only two of us so it takes a bit longer to fill the dishwasher, it's not just that we're lazy. Well, maybe a little!). The most noticeable difference about these tablets, is that they do get rid of stains and leave things sparkling. We had some mugs with tea stains at the bottom, and these dishwasher tablets have got rid of those so they are now perfectly white. They are also good for cleaning glass, because in the past I've noticed glasses can come out with those horrible cloudy marks on them, but with these, they come out sparkling. As for the lemon scent, I notice it faintly when the wash has finished, but it's not overpowering, and it doesn't linger on the items in the dishwasher. It just makes the inside of the dishwasher smell much cleaner than it usually does. I've noticed these tablets ALWAYS dissolve during the dishwashing cycle, which is good because it's very annoying when you open the dishwasher door to discover the dishes aren't all clean because there's a semi-dissolved tablet at the bottom of the dishwasher. I can highly recommend these tablets, they are not just a gimmick or marketing ploy, but they do actually give excellent results. My only issue is with the price, which is why I've knocked a star off, but I will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for offers on this product in future. I don't like spending over the odds for dishwasher products but I've learned from experience that sometimes cheaper ones aren't better value for money because you end up running the machine twice or handwashing afterwards! Finish Powerball Quantum tabs are ones I've been very happy with but do tend to get them when they're on offer as they're fairly pricey. These come in a purple and blue designed bag that's made of a strong plastic and reminds me of a vacuum sealed bag. The Finish logo is clearly recognisable on the front along with an image of a class, just so you know what this product is for. The design incorporates '#1 Recommended', 'Amazing shine and clean', and 'Ultra shine technology' to tempt us to test for ourselves the amazing abilities of the tabs. What do these do? They're supposed to provide : 'Outstanding cleaning and contains Ultra Shne Technology to actively fight watermarks and cloudy spots for an amazing clean and shine'. These stand out from the crowd because they do this through three aspects: . Gel Powerball - This is 'unique' and has the ultra-shine technology built in. 2. Powerful Detergent - Washes away stains by softening even the toughest of the tough. 3. Formula - 'High efficiency' ingredients cleans and fights against cloudy spots and watermarks. They also claim to have 8 'Power Actions', including : Tea stain removal, amazing shine, grease cutting, limescale protection of the machine, salt function, powerful clean, rinse aid function and they're wrapper free. To use, rip the top of the bag off, remove a tab and close the bag using the re-sealable strip. This upgraded bag now uses less packaging than the product has previously, which is good to know as other information on the pack also suggests the brands attention to being greener and more ecofriendly. Place a tab in your machine and run the wash as usual, and that's about it! It does note you should handle the tabs with dry hands, because water will make them disintegrate and go messy. I find these are very quick and easy to use, helped in part by the fact that once you've opened the main packet each tab is then wrapper-free. The re-sealable pack is a bonus as it does help to keep them dry and intact, and it makes for easier storage too without any bulky box. As for the cleaning properties, Powerball Quantum does seem to be pretty good at getting dishes/glasses clean the first time around. I've noticed that regardless of what I put in there, be that stained plates or greasy trays, they come out clean and without marks from the tab (ie I don't really notice any spotting of glass or smears etc). This is probably thanks to the 'shine technology', because you can tell the plates are clean from the nice shine they have. They come out fresh and the scent isn't overpowering so dishes aren't left with a nasty tang you need to wash off afterwards, again making the dishwashing process far quicker and easier. So far I don't really have any niggles with these as the tabs tend to dissolve well in the dishwasher without causing mess, bits and pieces come out shiny and clean, and the dishwasher itself seems to stay in better, fresher condition for longer. All in all I would therefore recommend these, as have many dishwasher manufacturers, including AEG, Beko and Whirlpool (full list on packaging). They are pricey, however, so I'd be hard pushed to pay the full retail price even though they are effective (hence I've knocked off a star) - I buy when on offer, so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain! I bought mine in a pack of 30 and they sell for around the £10 mark, but I was able to pick them up on half price offer. [Also reviewed by me, gothic_moon, on Ciao]
