Flash Antibacterial Wipes
Advantages: effective, anti-bacterial
Disadvantages: expensive, drying to hands
I always keep a packet of cleaning wipes in the house, as although I find it's much cheaper to buy a bottle of all purpose cleaner and a cloth, there are some times when wipes are the convenient (OK, lazy) option.
My latest pack of wipes are the Flash strongweave wipes, purchased as they were on special offer - no other reason than that. The wipes come in two different varieties, lemon or anti-bacterial...I bought anti-bacterial.
The wipes are packaged in a green plastic packet, similar to that of baby wipes, and the front states that they will kill 99.9% of bacteria. They are suitable for all hard washable surfaces (although they do recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first) and not suitable for carpets, fabric or upholstery (although I guess that's common sense).
You get 60 wipes in a pack...well at least that's what Flash say on the front of the pack. What you actually get is 30 wipes with a perforation down the middle, so you can, if you wish, tear them in half to make 60. The problem, I find, is that when halved the wipe is too small to be of any use, except on really, really small jobs and so for me, I certainly only get 30, not 60 as stated.
The wipes are white in colour and look like a thick baby wipe. They have a textured surface, and a slightly chemical scent to them. They are thick, and I can see why they're called strongweave as they are very durable and I've not had one tear on me yet.
I find the wipes are best for small jobs around the house, and not everyday cleaning, as I would simply go through too many packs at a time. I find them fantastic for wiping down the front of white goods such as the washing machine and fridge as they leave a streak free finish, and aren't so wet that I worry water will get into my appliances. I have used them to wipe down my dining table, which has a sort of laminated wood top, and I have glass tablemats and coasters, which come up well with a wipe over with these, and again no streaks. In fact, the only time I have used these on really tough stains would be when trying to remove dried on food from my tablemats and I find these lift stains with minimal effort.
When I had work done on my flat recently I used these to clean some of my possessions which the builders hadn't bothered to cover over, and found that because they're damp, they are effective at lifting dust too.
The wipes leave a slight scent behind after cleaning, I can't quite put my finger on what the scent is, but whilst it has a very slight chemical tone to it, I find it completely inoffensive.
I do find the wipes slightly drying to the hands, so I tend to use gloves whenever possible.
These wipes usually cost £2.02 for a pack from ASDA, but are currently on special offer for £1. Whilst I'd be happy to pay £1 for them, I don't think I would pay the full price, as whilst these are good wipes, I feel there are other brands (such as the Wilkinson's own brand wipes) which do just the same job and cost much less.
Overall, I am quite happy with these wipes. They are effective on most surfaces, don't leave any streaks, and as a bonus they are killing germs too. The only real downside is that they're drying to the hands and I feel at full price they're too expensive.
