“ Brand: Flash / Type: All Purpose Cleaner / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
I am always looking for household cleaning products that won't spew out so many fumes that I have to use my inhaler as I'm cleaning, I have severe asthma which makes cleaning a real chore at the best of times but this is made worse by the use of harsh cleaning products, before anyone says anything I am thoroughly aware of the use of vinegar and other natural products for cleaning but this is time consuming and I really want the job done as quickly as possible.
My daughter bought me a bottle of Flash Clean & Care after seeing it on special offer in Sainsbury's, it's a kind product which has been specially developed for use on even delicate surfaces in your home so I thought it was worth a try as generally I find Flash to be one of the better household cleaners when it comes to fumes affecting my chest.
This cleaner has been made using white vinegar and citrus extract, both of which have long been used as natural cleaners so I was hopeful that this would become my new wonder product. It comes in a typical spray bottle which I find very easy to use, the trigger is smooth and comfortable to use unlike a recent bottle of Morrisons own brand cleaner which I bought that I ended up having to decant into another bottle as the trigger was just too stiff for my arthritic hands.
Reading the bottle I saw that Clean & Care can be used on natural stone, steel, aluminium, wood and ALL other surfaces. There are a few exceptions such as black rubber, brass and copper but Flash suggest you run a test area on these surfaces and you might find the cleaner is still OK for use. Personally I used it to clean a brass garden pot which has become weathered and it certainly got all the dirt off but left the finish looking rather dull so I had to revive it with a little Brasso.
Flash Clean & Care has a delightful lemon aroma, it scents my home beautifully and doesn't make me cough at all even when I used it in my small unventilated outhouse to clean off the shelves. It's definitely the kindest cleaner I've used in a long time and I was able to give my bungalow a complete early spring clean without any wheeziness or having to sit down to clear my head.
However, this would be irrelevant if the cleaner didn't perform but let me tell you this is an absolutely fantastic cleaner which I shall carrying on buying from now on. It's so versatile, that's the main thing I like about it. I can take this one bottle out of the cupboard and know that it will clean the majority of surfaces in my bungalow, it can be used on wood although I tend to polish my wooden furniture daily so I didn't have any actual dirty wood to try it out on although I did use it to clean up my pine kitchen table after a particularly messy cooking session with my ten year old granddaughter and the results were excellent.
I've also used it on my granite kitchen worktops, this was one of the disappointments if I'm honest as I usually use a special granite cleaner and I found this Flash didn't clean half as well and left a slight film on the surfaces which I had to rinse and buff away afterwards. This wasn't really a problem but I shall continue to use my granite cleaner on the worktops just to save on the awkward rinsing, although to be fair the Flash did remove the muck and stains which develop in the kitchen after cooking.
On all other surfaces I've found it to be excellent, you have to be careful when cleaning metal that you rub wipe it away properly and all in the right direction as it can smear but this is no problem as a quick wipe over with a dry cloth will get rid of any smears and anyway they will disappear themselves after a while. Just yesterday I cleaned my Venetian blinds with Clean & Care and was extremely impressed at how much dirt and grime was removed, my blinds are now sparkling in the Spring sunshine and it makes all the difference to how bright my kitchen looks overall.
I even used it to clean my leather sofas recently with no adverse effects at all. It left it looking a little dusty but revived the leather beautifully and got rid of marks and stains on the seats and arms, I wasn't concerned about the dusty look at all as I was planning to ask my son in law to apply some leather dubbing the following day anyway which brought the shine back beautifully.
In all I cannot really fault this product at all, it has to lose a star on the ratings because of the residue it leaves on my granite and leather surfaces as although this wasn't an annoyance for me it might well be the one thing you are looking to avoid in a cleaner. Personally I think this is wonderful; it doesn't make me cough, cleans thoroughly and quickly, smells lovely and leaves the majority of my surfaces pristine and shiny.
A 500ml bottle costs around £2 in all the big supermarkets but can often be found on special offer, usually involving buying two or more for a discounted price. I would say a bottle will last for 2 - 3 weeks if you use it daily as I do, my daughter is still on her original bottle from around six weeks ago as she tends to use a variety of different cleaners for her surfaces.
My main reason for buying 'clean and care' was the fact that I have only been able to find one suitable cleaning product for my granite kitchen worktops.
I am fortunate enough to have a whopping 10m of granite worktops (before the kitchen extension I had 0.5m!)
Granite is extremely hardwearing but can be prone to staining if you're not careful. For example oils if not wiped up straight away can cause staining or acidic substances like wine, lemon and vinegar can cause staining. I just have to be extra careful with these. Having said all that I have had no problems, we had a sample that we lived with for ages before buying. One thing which happenned with a light granite sample we had was that I stanied it (on purpose) with blackberry and oilve oil which of course marked it, within a few days the marks had disappeared on their own like magic because stone is porus, how strange was that? Anyway I digress!
So I thought at last a cheap granite cleaner. Tescos had a offer of £ 2 for £2.25 which was a steal considering I am paying £4 for method granite cleaner.
The bottle label states all surfaces, even on delicate surfaces like natural stones, steel, aluminium, wood enamel. No mention of granite here until you read the back of the label which lists granite and marble as being suitable.
My concern was that the main 2 ingredients are citrus extract and vinegar which as I've mentioned earlier would normally stain granite. It said 'always test on inconspicuous areas before use' so alarm bells rang out then.
I tested a small corner and the cleaner didn't appear to have any adverse effect so later that evening I set to cleaning all the worktops down. The smell I found really lemony and pleasant and the cleaner appeared to work well. You didn't need much of a spray to make it go a long way, I used a clean soft cloth to buff with the liquid.
Initially I though they looked OK until I put a light on under one of the units and I thought in strong light it looked streaky so I used my normal cleaner over this section to see if it had better results, it did....
Today I came down and in the full daylight I was horrified to see that my worktops looked like they had a grey greasy film on them, so I went round with the usual cleaner.
I thought I had found an alternative but it seems not. I haven't tried it round the rest of the house buy I think I'll end up using it in the bathroom instead so it won't go to waste.
I think this cleaner would be suitable elsewhere round the house but I wouldn't reccomend it for granite!
I hate cleaning around the home, so therefore I like to use products that make those horrible jobs as easy as possible. I have found a few which I find actually work, but I can be a bit of a sucker for new products on the market - I just have to have a go to see how good they are. So when I spotted this new Flash product on a half price offer in Sainsburys, I thought it would be worth a go and I popped a bottle into my trolley.
Flash have been making quality cleaning products for many years, so I had quite a trust in the brand name. Thi new range of products is called 'Clean and Care' and is intended for use on all surfaces throughout the home. What makes this product different though is that it is fine to use on delicate surfaces, such as natural stone, enamel, steel and wood. It won't harm them, but it will still deliver effective and strong cleaning power. I liked the idea of being able to use one product on all surfaces so I really hoped it would work well.
The variety that I picked up is the 'White Vingegar and Citrus Extract' one, which is good for cutting through grease and removing stains. As I primarily wanted to use this cleaner in the kitchen, this one sounded like the better one for the job I wanted. It comes in a 500ml spray bottle, the same shape as the other Flash products, with a yellow coloured label which matches the yellow liquid inside the bottle. The other variety which contains bicarbonate of soda, is blue with white and blue labels so it is easy to tell them apart from each other.
I decided I would try it out in my bathroom first, and gave it a good spray throughout the surfaces and left it to work for a minute or so before I started to clean. Any shampoo bottle stains on the side of the bath quickly came away with just one wipe of the sponge, and left the sink and bath sparkling clean, and really gleaming. I was really impressed and wondered how it would fare with tougher stains to clean. So I carried on through to my kitchen and decided to tackle my somewhat stained glass hob. I made a curry Saturday evening and managed to spill a portion which welded itself to the hob because of the heat. I knew it would take something strong to help me shift this with ease, so it would be a good test.
I sprayed on a generous amount of the cleaner straight onto the food stains, and also generally across the hob too. I left it a couple of minutes before I took to it with a scourer, and I was really surprised! Althought the stains were dry and tough, with just a minimal effort they came away from the surface quite easily. The bottle does recommend leaving the product on tough stains for around 3 minutes, and this is definitely enough. I then carried on cleaning the rest of my hob, and the cleaner really did a great job. It cut through the grease no problem and left the glass wonderfully shiny and clean, just like it was when I bought it 2 years ago! After using the product, I just wiped it dry with a piece of kitchen towel and this stopped any smears and left it perfectly clean.
Despite this great cleaning power, I do have one negative about the product to tell you about. Although it releases quite a pleasant, lemoney scent when you use it, I did find it to be quite over-powering when you're standing right on top of the area you are cleaning. I found that it caught in the back of my throat and made me cough quite a lot, which felt quite uncomfortable and annoying, something I haven't experienced much before when cleaning. I tried opening my windows wide, but even in my large open kitchen, it was still a bit strong and made me cough which was a shame for me as otherwise this product was fantastic.
I have found it to be a great suitable cleaner for all surfaces in the home especially the more delicate ones such as the stainless steel on the front of my oven. It left those surfaces really clean, non-greasy and wonderfully shiny! Using old and trusted ingredients such as white wine vinegar clearly has worked for this product, and it really does give great cleaning power which works on the worst of stains. It even left my pine dining table really clean and soft, which was impressive. Please note the bottle advises you should test the product on an 'inconspicuous area' before using it all over, in case it does react. The spray is great, with a nice full spray when you squeeze the trigger, but not too much, in fact it is just right. There is a child safety cap which has to be rotated to the correct position for the product to work.
As I mentioned, this is a brand new product so it should be in all supermarkets now amongst the other cleaners. It is currently on an introductory offer of £1.24 for 500ml, although the price will be around £2.49 after this. Even so, I would still pay this price for an excellent cleaner, although I do recommend using it in a well ventilated area if possible.
Thank you for reading.
Great for cleaning throughtout the house.
