This is a review of the long handled floral dustpan and brush that I bought from Dunelm a few months ago. I am amazed at the value of this item and use it every single day on the laminate flooring in our kitchen.
My purchasing decision
I knew the style of dustpan and brush I wanted was a long handled one as I have used one my mum has had for ages at her house but I've no idea where she bought hers from and I'd never really noticed them on sale anywhere. I did visit Dunelm with this specific item in mind to purchase and I was so pleased when I saw the floral patterned one available.
My kitchen is country kitchen style and white units and I have made the curtains from teacup material so I wanted something that could sit in the corner on show without being an eyesore. As I would be using it a lot it needed to be close to hand ready for action at any time. I love the ditsy print on the long handled dustpan and brush set and found other items in store that matched the pattern like tea towels and storage tins etc. that you could get if you wanted it in the same style. I think Dunelm change the pattern every now and again so if you like the one that is currently on sale you should buy what you want in the theme now rather than waiting or you may be left disappointed.
I really appreciate having a long handled dustpan and brush as it saves bending down to sweep up yet provides the same accuracy. In use, the long handled broom is great as it has a wedge shaped brush and it is easy to get into corners, it sweeps up all crumbs and food first time and the long handled dustpan gives stability to the structure and has a clip for the brush to sit in.
The long handle screws into the pan base and sometimes comes a little loose but it is easy to screw back in. As this is all made from plastic it is a bit flimsy and will probably break at some point but I'd be straight back to buy another of the same. The main problem we have is my daughter's obsession with this item. Whenever she manages to get into the kitchen this is what she heads for and she loves to carry the brush in one hand and the pan handle in the other and totter about. I have had to buy her a toy cleaning set with a dustpan and brush to try and get her to leave mine alone!
This dustpan and brush retails at just £2.99. Dunelm also do a plain (purple) version that is the same design for £1.99. I think this is unbelievable value for money.
I really think this is an excellent item and a great price too. It is a real back and leg saver and it's quicker to sweep up standing up rather than squatting. Perhaps they are designed more for older ladies but I really don't care! Mine is staying with me.
